Identifying Mobile Phone Usability Issues in Informal Swedish Language Learning:What users think about it?

Aizezi, Zulifuyemu January 2015 (has links)
This thesis studies the usability issues of the mobile phone in informal Swedish language learning. The concept of usability is defined by expanding the technical usability attributes of Jakob Nielsen with other recent attributes derived from considering the technical aspects of mobile learning (m-learning). Thus, the ultimate structure of the usability factors that are discussed in this study consists of: accessibility, easy-to-learn, technical design, efficiency and satisfaction. With the support of the relevant previous literature and interview, we research this topic by considering the mobile-assisted language learning (MALL), informal language-learning and usability elements, in order to explore and identify the usability of mobile phone. The goal of this study is to contribute to detailed understanding of mobile phone usage, further identify the usability issues of mobile phones by obtaining both critical and commendatory feedbacks and reflections from the users. For final results, through qualitative research approach, we offered several findings regarding the mobile phone usability with specified reasons.

Mobile Usability of Intelligent Electronic Devices

Shafqat, Adnan January 2015 (has links)
Context: The Human Machine Interface (HMI) for Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) is limited in its capability and is often the most common cause of failure when interacting with devices. A new approach to interact with these devices is needed with focus on improving interaction and effective visualization of information. Objectives: In this thesis, we investigate and propose a solution to visualize data of existing IED in interactive way. A mobile based prototype is proposed to list alarms, events and disturbances. Further single line diagram shown with capability to switch controls. Objective of proposed solution is to investigate specific use of mobile device from the perspective of usability and compare the new prototype with existing use of IED monochrome screen interface. Methods: Mixed approach based on qualitative and quantitative methods is conducted for analysis of the problem, method and approach to solve the problems in the domain of Substation automation. Analysis of the problem was carried out with the literature review of the technical documentation of IEDs. Experiments are performed in real environment to test and verify the usability of prototype. Results: Experiments results of proposed solution indicate that new approach is acceptable. The interfaces developed in mobile provide better results than traditional interfaces of IED. The difference between them is significant. Conclusions: We conclude that mobile usability gives better interaction, freedom, visualization of information and enhance the users’ experience by providing context specific information as compared to the existing Local Human Machine Interface of Intelligent Electronic Devices. The study provides strong results that recent developments of mobile technologies have revolutionized users’ possibilities to access information in an easy and better way.

Facilitating communication for marginalised communities in Mexico : Designing a progressive web application with a participatory design approach

Lindén Guinez, Amanda January 2019 (has links)
There are areas in Oaxaca, Mexico, where larger telephone operators have refused to install a cellular network, leaving mainly indigenous communities without connectivity. A minor field study was carried out in the affected areas with the aim to build an application tackling some of the existing connectivity problems.I present an application enabling low-cost phone calls through open source mobile networks. The app contains calling and messaging features compatible with residents mobile devices. Dialogues with the users were completed to understand their priorities and practices. A participatory design approach was used throughout the design process to encourage user appropriation. Ideas suggested by the end- users included using symbols for users who could not read and copying features from Mexico’s most popular communication app, WhatsApp. Usability testing showed that the design was usable and additionally allowed for natural dialogue and user appropriation. Furthermore, I discuss opportunities and limitations with the application..

Design Principles in Mobile Web Usability

Pettersson, Elena, Thai, Tiffany January 2017 (has links)
As the use of mobile devices is increasing and the use of laptops and computers is decreasing it is becoming more important to design for better web usability across platforms. The established design principles for web design provide guidelines when designing and testing web usability. The principles, however, are not commonly used to evaluate and test the usability of mobile websites. This study seeks to examine how the usability of mobile and desktop websites is affected based on the adaption of established web design principles. The study is built upon an analytical framework where common keywords have been selected from a selection of established web design principles. This study takes on a qualitative approach with experimental features, using a heuristic evaluation, a usability study and an eye-tracking experiment. The study indicates that there is a connection between low adaption of certain keywords of web design principles and the usability of mobile and desktop websites, contributing to a deeper understanding of how adaption of design principles affect web usability across platforms.

[pt] O DESIGN DE INTERFACE COMO FACILITADOR NA COMUNICAÇÃO DO PROCESSO DE TRATAMENTO DE DADOS DIGITAIS DOS USUÁRIOS / [en] THE ROLE OF INTERFACE DESIGN AS AN ENABLER IN THE COMMUNICATION OF PERSONAL DATA PROCESSING

ANA LUIZA CASTRO GERVAZONI 30 October 2023 (has links)
[en] The use of artificial intelligence models is changing the relationship between organizations and consumers, and the volume of digital products dependent on personal data is growing every day. Privacy policies are the primary tool for informing citizens about how their information will be handled by companies with which they interact. However, currently, the interfaces of these instruments do not objectively communicate their information. The present study demonstrates that the application of design guidelines in privacy policies promotes a more satisfactory experience and faster user acquisition of information from its content. The study methodology encompassed a bibliographical review, documentary research, adjustment of the Internet Users Information Privacy Concerns scale, usability testing, and content analysis. Literature from law and design fields could be interconnected to identify legal requirements that could be addressed more effectively through design, the level of privacy concern of the study s participants was verified, and a comparative usability test was conducted. A replica of Facebook s policy was compared to a new interface, which included elements that represented design guidelines. The data showed a reduction in the time to find information, the error rate among users who accessed the new proposal, and a higher frequency of positive statements regarding this version. This research enhances the understanding of how interface design affects the creation of such instruments by showing that following best practices in this area facilitates information acquisition.

Metodika testování použitelnosti mobilních zařízení pro bezkontaktní NFC platby / Design and experimental verification of usability testing methodology for mobile contactless NFC payments

Novotná, Pavla January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this work is the design and experimental verification usability testing methodology of mobile contactless NFC payments. Given that this is the very innovative and flexible region (m-commerce and the usability of mobile devices) we need to develop a methodology to adapt the methods and usability testing standards for the specifics of mobile devices. The benefit of this work is to link the usability and m-commerce and the creation of a methodology for mobile devices usability testing. This work can be beneficial for companies that decides to enter the mobile payments market (as for instance a firm MOPET CZ rather unexpectedly made with the mobito project) and also for companies that are already dealing with m-commerce. This work can be also useful as a matrix for creating own testing methodology for mobile devices, even for other purposes.
