Hiding Depth Map in JPEG Image and MPEG-2 Video

Wang, Wenyi 08 November 2011 (has links)
Digital watermarking of multimedia content has been proposed as a method for different applications such as copyright protection, content authentication, transaction tracking and data hiding. In this thesis, we propose a lossless watermarking approach based on Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) for a new application of watermarking. A depth map obtained from a stereoscopic image pair is embedded into one of the two images using a reversible watermarking algorithm. Different from existing approaches which hide depth map in spatial domain, the depth information is hidden in the quantized DCT domain of the stereo image in our method. This modification makes the watermarking algorithm compatible with JPEG and MPEG-2 compression. After the investigation of the quantized DCT coefficients distribution of the compressed image and video, The bit-shift operation is utilized to embed the depth map into its associated 2D image reversibly for the purpose of achieving high compression efficiency of the watermarked image and/or video and high visual quality of stereo image and/or video after the depth map is extracted. We implement the proposed method to analyze its performance. The experimental results show that a very high payload of watermark (e.g. depth map) can be embedded into the JPEG compressed image and MPEG-2 video. The compression efficiency is only slightly reduced after the watermark embedding and the quality of the original image or video can be restored completely at the decoder side.

Modelling and implementation of an MPEG-2 video decoder using a GALS design path.

Rosengren, Kaj January 2006 (has links)
As integrated circuits get smaller, faster and can fit more functionality, more problems arise with wire delays and cross-talk. Especially when using global clock signals distributed over a large chip area. This thesis will briefly discuss a solution to this problem using the Globally Asynchronous Locally Synchronous (GALS) design path. The goal of this thesis was to test the solution by modelling and partially implementing an MPEG-2 video decoder connected as a GALS system, using synchronous design tools. This includes design of the system in Simulink, implementing selected parts in VHDL and finally testing the connected parts on an FPGA. Presented in this thesis is the design and implementation of the system as well as theory on the MPEG-2 video decoding standard and a short analysis of the result.

Implementations of Multiple Tunnels for MPEG-4 Stream Splitting on Wireless LANs

Hsu, Yang-Shun 10 September 2009 (has links)
Traditional Mobile IP supports only one tunnel between HA (Home Agent) and FA (Foreign Agent) for MN (Mobile Node) to transmit data from CN (Corresponding Node) to MN during handoff. To alleviate traffic load, in this Thesis, we propose a multiple-tunnel approach by setting up a secondary tunnel in addition to the primary tunnel. HA can split the video stream from the primary tunnel to the secondary tunnel when the former encounters high traffic load. Thus, quality of video stream from CN to MN can be guaranteed through the proposed multiple-tunnel schemes. For the purpose of validation, we implement the multiple-tunnel schemes on Linux platform for HA, FA, and MN to support video stream splitting. Specifically, if HA detects that high system load occurs on FA, an MPEG-4 packet filter is activated on HA to split some portions of video packets from the primary tunnel to the secondary tunnel based on I/B/P frame types. Video receiver on MN can then successfully recover these two divided video packets and playback the complete stream smoothly. Three experiments for validation are developed. They are (i) a simple Mobile IP handoff, (ii) Different bit rates to activate the stream splitting mechanism, and (iii) automatic adjustment of stream splitting according to system load. The experimental results have proved that the proposed multiple-tunnel schemes can substantially improve the quality of video streams.
