Wilson, Cristiana Margarita Callejas January 1994 (has links)
This thesis tries to circumscribe the carnavalesque narrative strategies that Miguel Angel Asturias (1899-1974) uses in Mulata de tal (1963) to project his pessimistic vision of the social, cultural and religious mixing in Guatemala. The purpose of our work is to make an interpretation of the novel through the analysis of the carnavalesque elements of the work. To achieve this goal, we base our analysis on the Russian critic Mikhail M. Bakhtin's theories of the literary carnavalization and the dialogical principle, which we describe in the first chapter. In the following chapter we examine the formal and semantic components of the novel. In the third chapter we analyse the contrasting and deformed images that represent the social, cultural and religious mixing. Finally, in the fourth chapter we study the different social languages which the author stylizes or parodies to express his ideas in a refracted manner.

The transformation of agricultural areas in the Amazon changes the dynamics of the environment and consequently the soil chemical properties. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of conversion of forest areas into areas of agriculture quantifying P fractions, humic substances and inorganic N in the Western Amazon. Soil samples were collected in Oxisol under native forest, pasture, citrus, and in areas with anthropogenic A horizon, citrus in Terra Preta de Indio and citrus in Terra Mulata in the depths 0-5, 5-10 and 10-20 cm in the city of Manacapuru, Amazonas and held phosphorus fractionation, humic substances and inorganic nitrogen. The native forest area had the lowest concentrations of P fractions when compared to other environments that increased their levels after forest clearing. The area of Terra Preta de Índio was the area that received the highest average in all P pools differing from other soils. Among the P pools, the non-labile fraction was the most widespread in all areas and P labile concentrated in the lower layer of 0-5 cm. The humic substances were prevalent in areas form the surface layer humin, humic acid and followed by fulvic acid. The ratio HA/AF was considered appropriate in the areas of native forest and citrus cultivation. The presence of inorganic N as N-NH4+ and N-NO3- corresponding to small part of the total N soil predominant form being the first in all areas, and Terra Preta de Índio values were similar. The area of Terra Preta de Índio showed less negative effect on the transformation of forest area and use in agricultural cultivation compared to Terra Mulata, citrus cultivation, pasture and native forest, checking in this last area the better stability of the evaluated attributes and best quality from soil.

[pt] BENVINDA A MULATA: O SENTIDO DA MESTIÇAGEM NA CAPITAL FEDERAL DE ARTHUR AZEVEDO / [en] BENVINDA A MULATA: THE MESTIÇAGEM CONCEPT IN ARTHUR AZEVEDO S CAPITAL FEDERAL

JULIA SOARES LEITE LANZARINI DE CARVALHO 02 December 2016 (has links)
[en] The appreciation of Brazil as a mixed country was constructed by – the peaceful or not - dialogue between different social actors, with diverse values, experiences and traditions. Therefore, it was forged by different points of view and perspectives, consolidated through symbols that carry multiple meanings. Among them, the figure of the mulata stands out, transformed through the 1930 and 1940 decades in one of the main Brazilian icons. Aiming to discuss this icon construction process, this dissertation will analyze the character Benvinda, from the comédia-opereta de costumes brasileiros A Capital Federal, written by Arthur Azevedo and first performed in 1897. The purpose is to situate this play in the middle of a fundamental dispute of that period around the definition and valuation of mestiçagem concept, revealing the dialogical character of the mulata symbol semantic construction. A privileged way to understand this process is through the Rio de Janeiro light music theater over the last decades of the nineteenth century, in general, and Arthur Azevedo s dramaturgy in particular.

Mulher negra: das formações discursivas à consolidação e quebra do estereótipo da mulata que dança / Black woman: from discourse formation to the consolidation and break of the dancing mulata stereotype

Santos, Andréa Luisa Martins dos 30 August 2018 (has links)
Life in Motion, An Unlikely Ballerina (COPELAND, 2014). / The aim of this study is to observe the relation between specific stereotypes and the identity constructions in the discourses of two Afro - descendant women. This observation is made through the study of two books, being one of them a biography and the other an autobiography (LEJEUNE, 2008), they are: \"Valeria Valenssa, Uma Vida de Sonhos\" (BERGALO; DUARTE, 2015) and \"Life in Motion, An Unlikely Ballerina\" COPELAND, 2014). Besides their skin color, the two women have also the dance in common. While classic ballerina Misty Copeland was the first black woman to be prima ballerina in a ballet company in the United States, the samba dancer Valeria Valenssa was the first mulata Globeleza, the woman who materialized (in)the stereotype of the sensual Brazilian Carnival mulata. The relevance of the research is justified because in both countries the history for the Black women identity construction is, somehow, based on the tragedy of enslavement of Black people, resulting in a trace of racial segregation. This fact is connected to the way of life of the two women investigated in this paper. The investigations are mainly based on the studies regarding stereotypes suggested by Lippmann (2008) and Amossy (2014), Ricoeur\'s theory of narrative identity (2004) and the sociological studies of Collins (2000), Harris-Perry (2011) and Davis (2016). Thus, when comparing both situations, even with some similarities, there is also a distance due to the context of social and cultural interactions between Whites and Blacks in both countries. As the theoretical contribution to the analysis of the corpus, the interdisciplinarity between French Semiotics and its developments, and Discourse Analysis were used. The basis of analysis in this work is the concept of manipulation, considering the possibilities the actor of the utterances has of manipulating the reader-enunciatee. In this way, the studies proposed by Landowski (2014), Fiorin (2002, 2006, 2015, 2016), Discini (2009, 2015), Harkot-de-La-Taille (2004, 2016), Barros (2006), Maingueneau (2005, 2008) and Ricoeur (2004) were used.

Three major novels of Miguel Angel Asturias : a study in fictional method

Martin, G. M. January 1970 (has links)
Despite the award of the Nobel Prize to Miguel Angel Asturias in 1967, he appears to have gone into decline with the rise of the nueva novela latinoamericana. Emir Rodrguez Monegal's influential but negative view in "Los dos Asturias" ignores several important points already raised by G.Yepes-Boscan's "Asturias, un pretexto del mito". Asturias' two major innovations are a functional incorporation of Latin American myth allied to audacious experimentation with language, and these are the acknowledged central features of the "new" novel. El Senor Presidente and Hombres de maz together prefigure all the varied manifestations of the nueva novela, an example of which is Asturias' own Mulata de tal.

From reflection to deception : Martín Morúa Delgado's narrative series : Sofía and La familia Unzúazu

Zettl, Erika Katharina 05 May 2015 (has links)
From Reflection to Deception examines the circumstances surrounding the mulata and mulatto in nineteenth-century Cuba. In Chapter One, this analysis argues that Martín Morúa Delgado inverts the paradigm of the literary tradition of narratives about the theme of slavery; he reveals that the tradition is not about realism, but rather artifice. By highlighting a subjective rather than objective narrator, Morúa simultaneously draws attention to the process of writing and the construction of "truths" in a context in which white elite men have controlled access to power and even the imagination. In Chapters Two and Three, this analysis shows how Morúa inverts the social paradigms that apply to mulatas and mulattos and instead applies them to whites. In doing so, he reveals the hypocrisy underlying the prevailing beliefs surrounding the situation of mulatas and mulattos in nineteenth-century Cuba. With Morúa's inversions, he demonstrates that mulata and mulatto representations are social constructions and in short reveals that race and gender are constructed to support the economic and social needs of the nineteenth- century Cuban landowners. By presenting deception as a reflection of reality, Morúa creates a consciousness of perspective whereby he challenges the social structure upon which much of nineteenth-century Cuban society is based. / text
