Die einzigartige Revolution von 1968 / The Unique Peruvian Revolution in 1968

Bejar, Hector January 2005 (has links)
The role of the military in the Peruvian revolution of 1968 is the key point of this article. The author, founder of the ELN guerrilla organization, worked together with the military and describes its situation and intentions in a very personal way. Different internal and external factors that led to the failure of the revolution are analysed in detail. The conflicts between the left-wing military and the civilian left are especially emphasized.

The science of empire: Bishop Martinez Compañón and the Enlightenment in Peru / Bishop Martinez Compañón and the Enlightenment in Peru

Berquist, Emily Kay, 1975- 28 August 2008 (has links)
The Science of Empire is a cultural history of ideas that examines the science of empire in the eighteenth-century Hispanic World through studying the political economy reforms and natural history investigations of Bishop Martínez Compañón of Trujillo, Peru. Martínez Compañón was a model enlightened prelate who imagined reform initiatives in mining, city life, and education that would improve the lives of his diocesans and increase the profits they brought to the Spanish crown. My work shows how these reforms reflected the political economy theories of leading Enlightenment intellectuals from Spain and throughout Europe, especially in how they viewed commerce as an agent of civilization and sociability. At the same time, Martínez Compañón also created a large collection of natural and man-made specimens and artifacts, and created nine volumes of watercolor illustrations of the people, plants, and animals of Trujillo. These material and visual sources in order to show how his natural history reflected the same pragmatic ideologies as his political economy. When viewed as an organic whole, his efforts in Trujillo constitute a complete program of governance -- or a science of empire -- that was distinctly Hispanic, yet highly attuned to other imperial programs throughout the Atlantic world. / text

Water control and land use on the arid north coast of Peru : prehispanic agricultural systems in the Chicama Valley

Watson, Richard P. (Richard Paul) 20 October 2011 (has links)
This study is an investigation of late prehistoric irrigation agriculture in North Coastal Peru. There has been much debate over the significance of irrigated agriculture to the development of indigenous civilization on the North Coast of Peru. Yet, in spite of the many references to prehistoric North Coast irrigation, only recently is information regarding the technology and functioning of the prehistoric systems becoming available. Little, however, is yet known about the extent of the prehistoric irrigation systems preserved on the North Coast. It is the intent of this study to present a summary of our present knowledge regarding these aspects of North Coast irrigation agriculture, to suggest methods and avenues for continued research, and to propose several specific hypotheses with regard to late prehistoric agricultural technology and environmental exploitation. / text

Guldbrytningens miljö- och hälsoeffekter : En jämförande studie mellan tre exempel på guldgruvor i Kongo, Peru och Sverige

Johansson, Annelie January 2014 (has links)
Gold is a chemical element and the best electrical conductor in technological devices. This study shows the impact that gold mining has on health and the environment. The study addresses three countries and how they have been affected by gold companies operating in each country. It has turned out that cyanide and mercury have devastating effects on the health of humans in both Peru and Congo. The problem is that labor standards and safety procedures are not adhered to. Diseases affecting people in Peru are paralysis, leukemia, headaches, rashes etc. This was due to a mercury accident. In Congo workers are daily exposed to mercury.  Soil, rivers and groundwater has been affected by cyanide and mercury. A goldmine in Sweden is instead using danafloat507 a chemical that is biodegradable. The water from the mine is hence rich in lime and it has a positive effect on fish and plants.
