Institutional investors impact on the stock of return

Lin, Sheng-tang 23 June 2004 (has links)
This paper probes into institutional investor¡¦s impact on Taiwan¡¦s stock market and its shareholding ratio in the relation of return. We aim to find out an effective return index of degree in order to provide another reference basis for investors. This research uses listed companies from 1999 to 2003 as sample. The analysis result shows that Taiwan has gone against the phenomenon of book-to-market and size effect in the past five years, and institutional investors¡¦ partiality is one of the reasons causing this phenomenon. The stock with high share of all kinds of institutional investors is expected to have high return in addition. In consideration of the momentum of the share of all kinds of institutional investors, we are unable to prove that the stock which has the positive momentum of share of all kinds of institutional investors will yield high return. The size factor and book-to-market ratio factor at the regular value prove whether institutional investors still have the ability to select stocks. The result proves that the group with high share of all kinds of institutional investors still has high return under the same book-to-market ratio and size factor, and proves that institutional investors indeed have better tactics in selecting stocks.

The influence of service quality on surgical patients¡¦ satisfaction and their intend to return: intervention of the education for preoperative anesthesia

Chou, Yu-fang 20 January 2006 (has links)
To supply the health care service has to possess plenty of professional medical knowledge. However, consumers cannot learn sufficient information from the health care market. As a result of unequal position in obtaining information, it is easy to create intenseness between doctors and patients. Patients need to know more about anesthesia and illness to relieve their anxiety. Based on the patient-centered idea to enhance medical service quality, this research expects to discuss the influence of the involvement of the education about preoperative anesthesia on hospitals¡¦ service quality through establishing appropriate anesthesia teaching videotapes. Then, the research tries to connect patients¡¦ satisfaction and their intend to return with the quality of hospitals¡¦ service. The research method is experimental, and the objects of this research are surgical inpatients from one medical center including 219 people in the test group who accepted introduction to preoperative anesthesia and 125 people in the comparative group who were taken care as usual. Some tools such as demography characteristic recording list, disease characteristic recording list, modified PZB (SERVQUAL) scale, satisfaction questionnaire from THIS¡]Taiwan Healthcare Indicator Series¡^and SPSS10.0 software were used to develop descriptive statistic analysis, item analysis, factor analysis, and one-way ANVOA and regression analysis. The results of this research appear as followed: 1. The recognition of hospitals¡¦ service quality has a positive influence on patients¡¦ satisfaction. 2. Patients¡¦ satisfaction has a positive influence on their intend to return. 3. The recognition of hospitals¡¦ service quality has a positive influence on patients¡¦ intend to return. 4. Patients¡¦ satisfaction produces an intermediary effect on the relationship between the recognition of hospitals¡¦ service quality and patients¡¦ intend to return. 5. The education about preoperative anesthesia produces no interference with the relationship between the recognition of hospitals¡¦ service quality and patients¡¦ satisfaction. 6. The education about preoperative anesthesia produces partial interference with the relationship between patients¡¦ satisfaction and their intend to return.

Enterprises' stock price performance after private placement

Huang, Yi-hsiang 09 August 2006 (has links)
There are more and more enterprises using private placement after private placement is permitted in Taiwan in 2002. It shows that private placement is becoming one choice for public companies to raise capital. The study examines the announce effect of private placement, the one year stock price performance after private placement, variables related to stock price performance after private placement, and earning management in private placement. The results of the study as follows¡G 1.Public enterprises¡¦ private placement did not have a significant announcement effect; it maybe because that most public enterprises with private placement were small enterprises, when they announced private placement did not catch investors attentions. 2.Insiders know more information than general investors, and most private placement rose from insiders. It maybe shows that insiders think enterprises would get better after private placement. So insiders got major portion of private placement maybe the reason of the significant positive of one year stock price performance after private placement. 3.In regression analysis, firm size and stock price performance present significant negative relationship, the ratio of insiders and institutions has significant positive relationship with stock price performance. 4.The study did not find enterprises through earning management lure investors to attend private placement.

The Return And Resettlement Of The Relocated Armenians

Gunaydin, Adem 01 December 2007 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis analyses the return of the relocated Armenians and resettlement of them in former their hometowns between the years 1918 and 1920, with special reference to the relative archival materials. Upon the permission given for their return on the last days of the World War I, most of the relocated Armenians did return either with the help of the Ottoman government or by their own means. The first chapter of the thesis is devoted to the preliminary developments which were influential in taking of the return decision by the Ottoman government. The following chapter elaborates the return of the Armenians from the relocation residences to their former hometowns. In the third chapter, the resettlement process and the government&rsquo / s attempts for care of the returnees are examined. Because it was completed in the most disastrous years of the Ottoman Empire, the return of the Armenians properly reflects the postwar Ottoman panorama with its administrative, financial and social aspects. The postwar Allied interference with and pressures on the Empire are also observable through the return and resettlement processes.

The Earnings Management During SEO of Public Companies in Taiwan

Ou-Yang, Tah-der 06 June 2002 (has links)
While improving the seasoned equity offerings, companies often manipulate the earnings or window the financial statements to get approval and increase IPO prices, and thus acquiring the funds easier. The main focus for this study is to exam whether the firms listed in Taiwan Stock Exchange manipulate earnings through discretionary accruals before the seasoned equity offerings, and the relationship between pre-issue discretionary accruals and the post-issue earnings, operating performance and long-term stock returns. The sample observed consists of 226 firms listed in Taiwan Stock Exchange conducting seasoned equity offering from 1991 to 1998 and the Modified Jones Model was used to estimate the discretionary accruals basing on the financial statements of the year. The discretionary accruals are the main research variables. The empirical results show that: 1. Firms listed in Taiwan Stock Exchange intend to manipulate the discretionary current accruals before conducting the seasoned equity offerings in order to improve earnings, and the larger pre-issue discretionary accruals, the larger the decline of post-issue earnings. 2. The post-issue total asset returns are clearly negatively correlated to the discretionary current accruals in the year before the seasoned equity offerings, indicating that the adjustment of discretionary accruals will influence the post-issue operating performance. 3. Excluding the possible influences from the industry, the discretionary current accruals present significantly negative effect on the post-issue operating performance. The level of earnings management becomes larger, the post-issue long-term stock return will decline greater.

Design of a Miniature Left-Handed Material for Gain Improvement of Antenna with Low Sensitivity to Return Loss

Lin, Kun-Hsien 24 July 2008 (has links)
In this thesis, we introduce a LHM (Left-Handed Material) with both negative permittivity and permeability. Improvement of gain antenna is achieved by utilizing the characteristics of the LHM which can focus the EM wave. We start with an analysis of electromagnetic characteristic of LHM, especially its negative index of refraction. Structures with only negative permittivity or negative permeability are also analyzed. Then, we design the structure of LHM that can reduce the sensitivity of S11 of an antenna. So that the antenna operating frequency is not changed even in the presence of the LHM. The LHM unit cell structure comes from the idea by combination of two basic SNG (Single Negative) structure. We design a unit cell whose index of refraction is negative and close to zero. Further, we combine LHM and antenna. Simulation and measurement results show that the LHM is effective. The reflection coefficient of antenna does not change much by the combination of proposed LHM. The half power beam¡Ðwidth of antenna become narrower. The antenna gain improvement can be about 3 dB or higher. Finally, the LHM has been miniaturized successfully, resulting in reduction in size by about 50%. Comparing simulation and measurement, we find the LHM is still effective. A dipole antenna is used to verify out design. The antenna gain has been enhanced and the reflection coefficient does not change much.

Ex-dividend day abnormal return analysis in Taiwan 50 index stocks

YAO, YI-HSIN 28 July 2008 (has links)
Abstract Taiwan's stock market have always been ex-dividend Performance , in essence, to participate in ex-dividend will not increase wealth, but investors are usually regarded as dividends paid by companies operating in the future of the expected. Ex-dividend will to come into notice of investor. We collection from 1999 to 2007, total of nine-year period. The ex-dividend day stock prices analysis in Taiwan 50 index stocks. We use market model of Event Study, and respectively studies by OLS¡BGARCH and SUR model, it's estimated that the abnormal return (AR), this paper to discuss ex-dividend performance of the Taiwan50 index stocks. We to join may cause abnormal return of variables to Panel data regression analysis model, the certification may cause abnormal return of factors.
