A Design Report on a Servo Controlled Inertial Sensor Test Fixture

Dowdle, James B. 01 January 1974 (has links) (PDF)
This report discusses the design of a servo controlled positioning system for remote control positioning of inertial sensors while under high acceleration test in a centrifuge. A rotating fixture and an electronic control panel was built for this purpose, with two modes of operation. The fixture can be positioned with an accuracy of 0.05 degrees and a resolution of 0.01 degrees, or it can be maintained in a constant velocity mode at rates from 1 to 16 degrees per second. The velocity loop was implemented as a phase locked loop, and the command rate is entered as a frequency - from a function generator or a frequency synthesizer. The position loop employs a pick-off resolver for sensing position and a control resolver for entering the command position. The paper presents the entire design picture, including a consideration of design alternatives, and servo and electronic circuit design. Photographs of the system in operation are shown in the appendix.

Torque-speed Linearization of a D.C. Servo System

Mantello, Nicholas A. 01 January 1976 (has links) (PDF)
In early 1973 Professor Fred O. Simons Jr., of Florida Technological University, suggested the topic for this research report. During control engineering discussions, it was proposed that a D.C. Shunt Motor could be constrained to perform in an idealized sense for the static case. The purpose of this report is to provide a reasonably comprehensive examination of a control which linearizes the torque-speed relationship of a dc servo system. The fundamental goal is to determine a control which linearizes the torque-speed output relation of a system, in which a dc shunt motor is under basic armature control. Consequently, the emphasis is on a concept and technique rather than the design of the system process. In this regard, the report does not delve into performance analysis, or design of the system to constrain the torque and speed parameters to operate along an idealized curve.

Selection Considerations For a Servovalve

Niemas, Frank J., Jr. 01 January 1977 (has links) (PDF)
Servovalves are a key factor in determining the performance characteristics of an electrohydraulic position servo. This paper examines the interrelationships between servovalve parameters and system requirements. A brief description of the configuration and operation of a typical servovalve is presented. Key servovalve parameters are identified, defined, and discussed. System performance considerations are identified, and the interrelationships between system requirements and servovalve parameters are examined. Examples of servovalve parameters for missile, aircraft and industrial systems are given to illustrate the effect of system requirements on a servovalve. Finally, general guide-lines for selecting and specifying servovalve parameters are given.
