Can different affect focus in early stages of therapy predict outcome for different personality disorders within cluster C?

Eliasson, Lisa M. January 2012 (has links)
Objective: The study compared how specific affect focuses in early stages of treatment predict outcome (SCL-90) for specific cluster C personality disorders. Method: The sample consisted of patients with cluster C personality disorders from a randomized controlled trial comparing 40-sessions of short-term dynamic psychotherapy and cognitive psychotherapy. Thirty-one patients had an avoidant personality disorder (AVPD), 17 patients had an obsessive compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) and 10 had a dependent personality disorder (DPD). The Global Severity Index (GSI) of the SCL-90 was used as the outcome measure and the Achievement of Therapeutic Objective Scale (ATOS) was used as a process measure to rate patients affects in an early session (session 1 and 6). Results: The results indicated that focus on closeness and anger predicted outcome for AVPD, focus on positive feelings for self predicted outcome for OCPD and focus on grief predicted outcome for DPD. Conclusion: Specific affect focuses in early stages of treatment is significant for various cluster C personality disorders to predict outcome.

Management of Short-term Capital Flows in China

Adomaviciute, Ugne, Seskas, Simonas January 2012 (has links)
Our essay focuses on short-term capital inflows and their effects on China’s economy. The reason for this work was the increasing vulnerability of China’s economy and the risk of newupcoming world financial crisis, all because of uncontrollable amounts of speculative capitalflows. Because of this problem, we raised a main question that we try to answer in this essayhowto reduce the possibility and the severity of the future financial crisis in China? In order tosolve this problem, first we searched for the existing theory of capital flows, mainly short-termcapital inflows. We analysed why investors choose capital flows and some specific countries, why it is profitable, but also risky and what could be done by countries, to stop these inflows orat least to diminish their effect on domestic markets. After that, we looked for past experiencesof countries faced with surges of capital flows and their measures for controlling them, weanalysed, if the theoretical tools were actually effective in reality. To finish the model, weapplied these measures to China’s economy and gave our viewpoint on what could be changedin order to avoid the dangers of short-term capital inflows. Last, we sum up the whole essay andsuggest the best mix of measures that China could use to control capital inflows as well as theireffects on the economy.

Neo--- A new perspective on STM capacity

Liu, Jun 09 July 2004 (has links)
Exploring the word length effect from the perspective of information density, the current research extended previous findings on cross-linguistic differences in STM capacity with the development of a new strategy that has the potential to double ones digit span with minimal learning and a much shorter training period. Experiments have shown promising results and responses to training differed across language groups. The underlying mechanisms are explored and discussed in relation to strategy usage, capacity estimates and optimization of language systems.

Application of Optimal Approach in Load Forecasting and Unit Commitment Problems

Liao, Gwo-Ching 25 October 2005 (has links)
An Integrated Chaos Search Genetic Algorithm (CGA) /Fuzzy System (FS), Tabu Search (TS) and Neural Fuzzy Network (NFN) method for load forecasting is presented in this paper. A Fuzzy Hyper-Rectangular Composite Neural Networks (FHRCNNs) was used for the initial load forecasting. Then we used CGAFS and TS to find the optimal solution of the parameters of the FHRCNNs, instead of Back-Propagation (BP). First the CGAFS generates a set of feasible solution parameters and then puts the solution into the TS. The CGAFS has good global optimal search capabilities, but poor local optimal search capabilities. The TS method on the other hand has good local optimal search capabilities. We combined both methods to try and obtain both advantages, and in doing so eliminate the drawback of the traditional ANN training by BP. This thesis presents a hybrid Chaos Search Immune Algorithm (IA)/Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Fuzzy System (FS) method (CIGAFS) for solving short-term thermal generating unit commitment problems (UC). The UC problem involves determining the start-up and shutdown schedules for generating units to meet the forecasted demand at the minimum cost. The commitment schedule must satisfy other constraints such as the generating limits per unit, reserve and individual units. We combined IA and GA, then added chaos search and fuzzy system approach in it. Then we used the hybrid system to solve UC. Numerical simulations were carried out using four cases; ten, twenty and thirty thermal units power systems over a 24-hour period.

Short-Term Volunteer Teaching in Contemporary Rural China : A Case Study on College Students' Volunteer Teaching Program of a University in Henan Province

Liu, Yang January 2015 (has links)
Currently, facing the fierce competition in the global marketplace, China has made remarkable economic achievements and become an important role in the international economy. However, economic discrepancy between rural and urban China is widening and it also leads to educational inequality. Rural eudcation in China is still confronted with the problems of funding shortage, teacher shortage, inferior teacher quality, unbalanced teacher allocation etc. To resolve these issues, the Chinese government has organized a large-scale college students' volunteer teaching program to support rural education. Nevertheless, as more and more college students get involved with the volunteer teaching program, the results are haphazard. This study was designed to investigate the short-term volunteer teaching program of rural China in Henan Province and to review the volunteer teaching in the international context. It indicates that more attention should be paid to the role and effectiveness of short-term volunteer teaching.it is hoped that this study could bring some implications to the further study on this topic.
