Transcendental unity: mana-mediations in Māori lore.

Ruta, Kimberley 30 August 2011 (has links)
This analysis uses the term mana as a lens to interrogate a regionally diverse range of Māori lore texts. It will be seen that categories of human-nature, natural-supernatural are often permeable in Māori lore because of the agency provided by mana. This permeability is transcendental unity which destabilizes the notion that humans are fully distinct from their environment. Transcendental unity is expressed in Māori lore through changes in states of being or planes of existence, biological-environmental metaphoric equivalences, and metaphysical spheres of reciprocal influence. I argue relations between humans and the non-human environment involve genealogical ties, are mediated by mana, and suggest a transcendental form of unity characterized by common essence and characteristics. / Graduate

OAE en menseregte

Neethling, Theodor Gottlieb 06 1900 (has links)
In the post-colonial era the human rights situation of many Africans was one of conflict, repression, social injustice and bloodshed. For years the OAU failed to improve the lot of people in its member states. It was only during the late seventies that the OAU - mainly as a result of international pressure - began to pay attention to the principles of human rights. The culmination of this was the Banjul Charter of human rights in 1981. This brought about no real progress or improvement in the human rights situation in Africa, however. Against this background an attempt has been made to analyse the history of human rights in Africa and the role of the OAU in this regard. At the same time the essential elements of a human rights dispensation on this continent - as it has in fact been envisaged by the OAU - have been investigated. The most important findings include the following: * a clash between pan-national and national interests in the OAU was a fundamental reason why this organisation failed to improve the lot of Africans; * the political dispensations and "legal culture" of the African states have thus far prevented the meaningful application of the Banjul charter; * if the OAU wishes to see its human rights standards applied, the African leaders will first have to make serious attempts to do this separately and individually; * commonly accepted political dispensations and legitimate governments will have to be established in the OAU member states before the ideal of a human rights dispensation can become a reality in Africa. Since the nineties there have, however, been signs offering hope for an improvement in the human rights situation in Africa. This applies in particular to the democratisation of numerous states and the activities of the OAU's Human Rights Commission. For various reasons the future task of this organisation in regard to human rights will not be easy. There is hope, however, that the OAU will be able to make some contribution, however slight, to improving the environment of many Africans - provided a greater realism about this matter sets in the respective member states. / Political Sciences / D. Ecumenical church renewal : the example of the United Reformed Church

Camroux, Martin Frederick January 2014 (has links)
Background to the Research. In his enthronement sermon as Archbishop of Canterbury in 1942 William Temple famously declared the ecumenical movement to be ‘the great new fact of our era’. For much of the twentieth century it was the major metanarrative of Church renewal. By the end of the century however the enthusiasm had largely dissipated, the organizations which represented it were in decline, and the hoped for organic unity looked further away than ever. Surprisingly little has been written on the attempt to achieve organic unity in England, what it hoped to achieve and why, at least in terms of its expectations, it failed. I propose to come at this major topic by focusing on the creation of the United Reformed Church, which was formed in 1972 by a union of the majority of congregations of the Congregational Church in England and Wales and the Presbyterian Church in England and saw its formation as a catalyst for the ecumenical renewal of the British churches. Methodology. This thesis, which is mainly resourced by documentary evidence and interviews, comes into the category of qualitative research but also uses statistics where they are relevant, for example when dealing with Church decline. Since I am a United Reformed Church minister, and have worked ecumenically, my role here draws upon the perspective of an observing participant. Conclusions. The research revealed that the hopes of the United Reformed Church to be a catalyst for church renewal were illusory and that the effects of its ecumenical priority were partially negative in the Church’s life. With the failure of its ecumenical hope the Church had little idea of its purpose and found great difficulty establishing an identity. It suffered from severe membership loss and the hoped for missionary advantage promised by its ecumenical strategy did not materialize. The thesis will analyse the reasons for failure, while noting that what failed was not ecumenism as such but a particular model of ecumenism.

Generování a editace 2D terénu / Tools for generating and editing of 2D terrain

Mocný, Ondřej January 2011 (has links)
Unity is a game development tool with large userbase. One of the features it is missing, however, is a deeper support for the development of two dimensional games. In particular a tool for editing and generation of two dimensional terrain. The aim of the presented work is to design and develop this tool. First, the problem is analysed and a set of requirements is assembled. Then, the Unity development environment is described in order to be able to use it for implementing the tool. The tool is designed from the programmer's point of view and data representation inside Unity is proposed. Large part of the work is also devoted to describing different algorithms used for terrain generation. Finally, the user interface of the program is designed using the knowledge gained by studying Unity.

Before Eternity: An Adventure Game Inspired by Sufi Mysticism

Mortazavi Ravari, Seyed Siavash 21 May 2015 (has links)
Before Eternity is a short 3D adventure game that addresses the purpose of our earthly lives, inspired by the Sufi poet Rumi. To support its mystical theme, the design employs impressionistic elements and symbolic activities which deliberately defy many conventions of traditional adventure games. This report explains the design and implementation of the game, as well as its technical and production aspects.

O apelo e a unidade épica na tebaida de Estácio / Appeal and epic unity in Statius Thebaid

Fernanda Messeder Moura 12 March 2012 (has links)
In this doctoral dissertation I investigate the problem of epic unity in the Thebaid through the hypothesis according to which the use of appeal is directly connected to the development of action. My method dwells on ancient theory and thus follows both Aristotelian and Horatian principles regarding the disposition of the parts and the whole of a poem as a means of reading the corpus and also clarifying aspects that have not hitherto been wholly established by critics and commentators. Furthermore, I proceed to verifying which uses of appeal in Statius epic reveal themselves as being modelled or not according to pre-figurations in the Iliad and the Aeneid, as well as in Senecas Oedipus and Phoenissae. By demonstrating the assumption that furor makes the center of action in the Thebaid I conclude that the unity of action in the poem builds on through appeal, thereby proving this to be its prevailing function.

Tadic, Ana, Sisodia, Silpa January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to achieve a greater understanding of how the social workers at the family unit in one of Stockholm municipalities comprehend the work environment at the workplace. Our aim is also to find out how the work environment can affect the health of the social workers in the form of their wellbeing and comfort at the workplace. In order to answer our purpose we conducted interviews of all social workers at the family unit in one of Stockholm municipalities that describe how they experience the work-environment in the workplace and how it influences their health.  We have analyzed the interview material in a thematic analysis based on three theoretical perspectives; SOC, claim – control - support and Human relations. We have also coupled the interview material to the background chapter in this thesis that describes how a good working environment should be structured.  The chosen method characterizes an abductive process. Our finding shows a relation between work-environment and health. This is evidence for that all social workers at the family unit experiences that the work- environment affects their health in the form of wellbeing and comfort. Furthermore, it appears that the unity among the group at work is perceived as an important factor within the work-environment as it has an influence on the health of social workers. In the discussion part, we highlight possible formulated questions that have not had space earlier in the thesis.
