[pt] REALIDADE VIRTUAL COMO FERRAMENTA DE APOIO NA TOMADA DE DECISÃO NO COMBATE EM AMBIENTES CONFINADOS / [en] VIRTUAL REALITY AS A TOOL TO SUPPORT DECISION MAKING IN CLOSE QUARTERS BATTLETHIAGO DA SILVA GONCALVES 03 May 2022 (has links)
ambiente confinado (CQB - Close Quarters Battle).
positivos referentes a possibilidade do emprego do sistema no adestramento
estudos futuros. / [en] Modern combat increasingly takes place inside cities, often indoors, alleys,
sheds, in environments with a restricted space where everything happens very
quickly and with opponents that are not easy to identify. In such a situation,
positive identification of the target becomes essential so that the soldier can
correctly decide whether or not to shoot what s/he is seeing. This is one of the
challenges that the Marine Corps faces: to prepare the soldier for a new reality
in a safe and low-cost way. For this reason, Virtual Reality can be a plausible
solution to this problem, preparing the military in its decision-making process
and efficiently for a combat situation in a confined environment. The present
work was based on two virtual environments, the first one is a training room,
and the second a Close Quarters Battle (CQB). In both situations, 8 trainees
were evaluated by 4 instructors, where we obtained positive results regarding
the possibility of use of the system in CQB training to teach positive target
identification, in addition to proposals for future studies.

[en] INTERACTIONS, MEANINGS AND SENSES IN VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS / [pt] INTERAÇÕES, SIGNIFICADOS E SENTIDOS EM AMBIENTES VIRTUAIS DE APRENDIZAGEMALECIR FRANCISCO DE CARVALHO 28 December 2018 (has links)
[en] The present thesis is a study about the approximations and distances between the fields of Design and Distance Education and an analysis of the conceptions of Distance Education agents (managers, teachers, designers and instructional designers) about what enhances the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) as a support of signification and interaction that mediates the educator-educating relationship. We assume as theoretical framework in this research the concepts of interaction addressed by Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky and the conceptions of Meanings and Senses addressed by Mikhail Bakhtin. The analytical focus falls on the possible intersections between these two fields and particularly from the perspective of the construction and configuration of Virtual Learning Environments. We argue in the thesis that the approaches between Design and Distance Education can contribute to the emergence of new teaching practices and favor the interaction and the construction of meanings in supports and systems in situations of use in the context of the teaching-learning communities. The present research has as general objective to understand the concepts of the agents of Distance Education about what enhances the Virtual Learning Environment as a support of meaning and interaction and facilitates mediating practices in the educator-educating relationship. Thus, it is presumed that such agents of Distance Education are those subjects directly involved in the planning, execution and follow-up of courses in the distance modality, such as managers, teachers, designers, instructional designers, students, among others. Thus, the field of Distance Education is considered as a segment that has emerged in contemporary times and demanded the incorporation of digital information and communication technologies as fundamental resources for the expansion of this type of teaching. It is an investigation conducted by the question that questions the conceptions of the agents of the Distance Education about what potentiates the VLE as a support of signification and interaction. In view of this, through this research, it was possible to verify that the investigated institutions opt for the use of commonly recognized resources, demonstrating a shortage of alternatives in the production and appropriation of new VLE s in the context of Design teaching. It was also possible to recognize, through our preliminary descriptive and comparative analysis, the potentialities and limits in five virtual environments of Virtual Learning Environments most used in the world: Moodle, Blackboard, EDX, Cousera and Edmodo.

[pt] BATALHAS EPISTÊMICAS EM AMBIENTE POLARIZADO DE UMA PLATAFORMA DIGITAL / [en] EPISTEMIC BATTLES IN A POLARIZED ENVIRONMENT OF A DIGITAL PLATFORMCAROLINA VALENTE DE OLIVEIRA 19 August 2021 (has links)
[en] Currently, differences in worldviews, especially those of ideological and political nature, are promoting a climate of polarization, whether in the offline or online environment. One of the ammunitions used in the we versus they war is knowledge. Heated discussions are supported by a dispute of right or wrong, that is, who is right in defending a determined position. In the light of an approach that integrates the theory of knowledge to the studies on epistemic stance, from the perspective of the Conversation Analysis, this paper aims to examine how epistemic changes are constructed in the comments section of a digital newspaper, hosted on YouTube, which posts videos of police operations evaluated as abusive. The results demonstrate that the participants seek to defeat the opponent by invoking an epistemic imbalance between the parties. To this end, they mobilize different linguistic resources to claim an epistemic stance of more knowledge and delegitimize positions that are not supported by reliable and well-founded knowledge. The results also reveal that, in terms of argumentative effects, epistemic battles are a game with no winners. They do not contribute to modifying misleading beliefs, false information, and prejudices. They only serve to reinforce the construction of totalizing identities, hindering any possibility of mutual understanding, even if there is no agreement.

[en] PEDAGOGICAL USABILITY AND INTERACTION DESIGN: PROCESSES OF COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION IN VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS / [pt] USABILIDADE PEDAGÓGICA E DESIGN DE INTERAÇÃO: PROCESSOS DE COMUNICAÇÃO E COLABORAÇÃO EM AMBIENTES VIRTUAIS DE APRENDIZAGEMMARIA ISABELLA DE PORTO ALEGRE MUNIZ 12 January 2016 (has links)
docentes tutores.
[en] This research deals with interaction mediated by communication and
collaboration tools in virtual learning environments, within the context of distance
education, and from the standpoint of pedagogical usability and interaction
design. It is assumed that there are problems related to interaction mediated by
virtual learning environments that hinder the implementation of teaching
strategies of DE-based collaboration and communication. Thus, the study, based
on teachers reports, aims to find requirements and issues that may influence the
use of virtual learning environments for planning and implementation of
collaborative teaching strategies. In addition to bringing contributions to the
design of a distance education based on collaboration and communication,
research contributes methodologically to the area of interaction design with the
proposition of the use of scenario-based interview technique. Unstructured
interviews were conducted with professionals of distance education, to support the
development of scenarios that served as subjects for the interview technique based
on scenarios with teachers directly involved in interactions with students during
courses. The interviews include detailed descriptions of how these professionals
put into practice pedagogical strategies based on communication and
collaboration and expose the growing role of tutoring in distance education
pedagogical models that propose collaborative teaching strategies, resulting in the
need for systems that support tutor tasks within virtual learning environments.

[en] A COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR OFFSHORE ENGINEERING SIMULATIONS BASED ON VISUALIZATION AND WORKFLOW / [pt] UM AMBIENTE COLABORATIVO PARA SIMULAÇÕES EM ENGENHARIA OFFSHORE BASEADO EM VISUALIZAÇÃO E WORKFLOWISMAEL HUMBERTO FERREIRA DOS SANTOS 07 February 2017 (has links)
Tais sistemas envolvem as
artefatos e resultados independentes, porém altamente inter-relacionados. A
[en] Deep-water production systems, including floating production units (platforms or
ships) and all the equipments playing a part in the production process, are
currently designed by means of complex computational modeling systems. Those
systems involve the areas of structural calculus, meteo-oceanography (currents,
waves and wind forces), hydrodynamics, risers (rigid or flexible steel pipes for
carrying oil from the well in subsurface up to the production unit), mooring
systems, submarine equipment, seabed foundations and Geologic/Geotechnical
risk assessment. The project of a new production unit is a lengthy and expensive
process, that can last many years and consume hundreds of million of dollars,
depending on the complexity of the unit and how mature is the technology
developed to make the project technically and economically feasible. Projects are
conducted by diverse specialists, sometimes geographically distributed, yielding
independent but highly interrelated artifacts and results. The need for
collaboration is an inherent characteristic of deep-water floating production unit
projects. The possibility to share information among users, control the execution
of different modeling tools, visualize and manipulate virtual 3D models in
immersive Virtual Reality (VR) environments is pushing the limits of teamwork
activities in oil and gas industry especially in Offshore Engineering. The objective of
this thesis is to establish the fundamental principles and address the main issues
in the development of a Collaborative Environment for Engineering, named CEE
(Collaborative Engineering Environment), in order to allow the collaborative
visualization and interpretation of simulation results produced in engineering
projects, which in general also involve different specialties. Due to the multidisciplinary
characteristic of those projects, collaborative visualization becomes a
key component during the life cycle of engineering projects, especially those in
Offshore Engineering, used in this work as case of study. We propose an
integrated collaborative environment to be used by project engineers teams
during the execution and control of complex engineering projects, as is the case
of the projects of deep-water floating production units. The system requirements
were carefully compiled aiming to enable an effective collaboration among the
participants, creating a suitable environment for discussing, validating,
interpreting and documenting the results of the simulations executed during the
different phases of an engineering project. To further improve the interpretation
capacity and a better comprehension of results the support for immersive 3D
visualization is also available in the visualization tool, especially tailored for the
Offshore Engineering domain. In order to meet these goals, we devise a Service-
Oriented Architecture (SOA) for CEE. This architecture is composed of the
integration of different technologies of Computer Supported Collaborative Work
(CSCW), Virtual Reality (VR) and Grid Computing (GC). We use a Scientific
Workflow Management System (ScWfMS), based on BPEL (Business Process
Execution Language), a Grid-enabled software infrastructure for executing
engineering simulations, and a Video Conferencing system (VCS) to furnish
audio and video collaboration. For visualizing the results, a VR visualization tool,
specialized for Offshore Engineering, ENVIRON, has also been developed in
conjunction with the PUC-Rio/TecGraf team.

[en] AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE COPPLA SYSTEM INTERACTION PROBLEMS: MOVING BEYOND USABILITY / [pt] UMA INVESTIGAÇÃO SOBRE PROBLEMAS DE INTERAÇÃO DO SISTEMA COPPLA: INDO ALÉM DA USABILIDADE ESTUDO DE CASO DO COPPLA – PLATAFORMA DE COMUNIDADE DE PRÁTICASCARLOS EDUARDO RIBEIRO DA FONSECA 01 November 2016 (has links)
[en] This paper is a case study that investigates, according to Etienne Wenger studies, aspects of the quality of the user experience regarding the interface of virtual communities of practice in CoPPLA (Community of Practice Platform) ambience within the Permanent Education Health: Care Pathways project, an initiative of the Ministry of Health of Brazil. Starting from a previous survey s findings, pointing to the absence of such initiatives in Brazil, the question that guides this research is: the difficulty of interaction affects the adhesion and permanence of users, inhibiting its proactive participation? To seek answers, explores the concepts of Continuing Education and Virtual in their imbrications with digital media and its codes and proper dimensions of ergonomics and design, to then spoon qualitative data and present brief analysis of the main difficulties and facilities interaction with the platform CoPPLA reported by its users: teachers and professionals with many links connected to the Unified Health System (SUS), the largest health system in the world.
