[en] ENRICHED FINITE ELEMENTS FOR BUCKLING AND VIBRATION OF SHELLS / [pt] ELEMENTOS FINITOS ENRIQUECIDOS PARA FLAMBAGEM E VIBRAÇÃO DE PLACASAMANDA JAREK 24 August 2007 (has links)
As
rotações nodais e no contorno.
termos adicionais polinomiais. Para o cálculo de cargas
críticas e freqüências são utilizadas as matrizes
de rigidez elástica, rigidez geométrica e de massa,
introduzidas em problemas
generalizados de autovalores. Resultados numéricos são
obtidos através de procedimentos computacionais utilizando
o software Maple. Verifica-se que as funções
adicionais trigonométricas, embora mais satisfatórias que
as polinomiais quanto à
Outros exemplos abordam
preliminarmente a inclusão de efeitos de dano e ortotropia
no material, visando
retangulares alongadas.
Esta modelagem envolvendo combinação de funções adicionais
gerais e elementos
convencionais representa um passo no desenvolvimento de
uma técnica aplicável
à combinação de modos globais e localizados de
instabilidade / [en] The focus of the present work is to developand evaluate
enriched elements
used to obtain critical loads, frequencies of vibration
and respective modes for
two-dimensional structural components (rectangular plates
in bending under inplane compressive loading). The
Rayleigh-Ritz approximation method has been
employed, directed to the use of conventional finite
elements enriched by internal
and boundary additional displacements functions. The
socalled internal functions are do not involve nodal and
boundary displacements and rotations. The
boundary functions are conceived to include displacements
within the element
and along one side, without involving any generalized
nodal displacements. Two
displacement function families were developed, the first
with trigonometric additional terms and the second with
polynomial additional terms. Critical loads
and frequencies, and respective modes, are obtained by the
use of elastic stifiness,
geometric, and mass matrices, introduced in generalized
eigenvalue problems. Numerical results are obtained by
computational procedures using Maple software.
The trigonometric additional functions, in spite of better
convergence properties,
demand greater computational effort. The basic elements
are classical thin plate
elements (Kirchhoff's theory) with three or four degrees
of freedom per node,
where the fourth degree of freedom corresponds to the
mixed derivative (torsion). The results indicate that non-
nodal additional functions require the use of
elements with four freedom degrees by node to obtain
convergence of critical loads
and frequencies convergence in general situations. Other
examples consist of preliminary approaches to include
damage effects, in reinforced orthotropic plates,
as modeling columns with wide rectangular sections and
compressed slabs. The
use of general additional functions combined with
conventional elements represents a step on the development
of a technique applicable to global and localized
instability modes.

[pt] EFEITO DE AMORTECEDORES NO COMPORTAMENTO DINÂMICO DE EDIFÍCIOS ALTOS SOB CARGAS DE VENTO / [en] EFFECT OF DAMPERS ON THE DYNAMIC BEHAVIOUR OF TALL BUILDINGS UNDER WIND LOADSMARINA POLONIA RIOS 12 February 2016 (has links)
[en] With the increase in building height and the development of more resistant materials, structures are becoming more flexible. This has made the consideration of wind loads an important factor to be considered in their projects. The dynamic characteristic of these loads causes important vibration effects in these structures due to their low vibration frequencies, which must be considered in design, especially regarding the users comfort, affected by high displacements and acceleration. This study analyses the use of fluid dampers in order to reduce the dynamic response of the structure under wind loading. The wind load is a random phenomenon, and must be studied statistically. In the present work the Synthetic Wind Method has been adopted in order to generate the variation of the wind load in time. The dampers applied to the structure are fluid dampers, highly viscous, so its behavior can be considered linear. The computer software Robot Structural Analysis is used to study the structural behavior. An analysis considering the wind as an equivalent static load is adopted for the preliminary design. Then, a dynamic analysis is conducted, considering the structure under a time varying wind loading, to investigate the effect of the fluid dampers on the response. Five models are investigated, with different configurations for the dampers, in order to define the best configuration and obtain acceptable levels of displacements and acceleration.

[en] ANALYSIS OF THE DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF HISTORICAL BUILDINGS SUBJECTED TO TRAFFIC-INDUCED VIBRATIONS / [pt] ANÁLISE DO COMPORTAMENTO DINÂMICO DE CONSTRUÇÕES HISTÓRICAS SUBMETIDAS A VIBRAÇÕES INDUZIDAS POR TRÁFEGOMAYARA LOBO AMORIM 19 February 2019 (has links)
[en] The first cities in Brazil emerged in the early sixteenth century and, with the discovery of new territories; new cities emerged whose remaining buildings must be preserved not only for their historical value, but also for their constructive techniques. These constructions are of a time where there was no intense traffic flow, the vehicles were not heavy and did not have the capacity to reach high speeds. After the industrial revolution, with the increase in road and rail transport, the concern with vibrations arising from the flow of traffic in historical buildings gained prominence, because modern cities developed around their historical centers and the flow, weight and speed of the vehicles in these areas are becoming more intense. Traffic- induced excitation, depending on its intensity and frequency, can generate or intensify existing damages, and usually cause discomfort to users. It depends primarily on the quality of the pavements, which is quite irregular in Brazilian historical cities. To ensure the safety of our historic constructions, usually of fragile materials, the monitoring of vibrations in urban environments is fundamental. This dissertation presents the most relevant construction materials used in constructions and pavements of historic cities in Brazil and a bibliographica l review and analysis of the codes and design criteria related to the effect of traffic - induced vibrations in these constructions. In order to understand how the vibratio ns propagate in these structures, two masonry walls were built in the laboratory with different mortar thickness and different types of foundation, being these subjected to mobile and impact loads. A detailed experimental analysis shows how in each case the accelerations, speeds and displacements vary along the walls, allowing evaluating the influence of the type of load and foundation characteristics in these quantities. The German standard DIN 4150 was adopted for the sensitivit y assessment.

[en] HYBRID CONTROL FOR REDUCING BUILDING VIBRATIONS / [pt] CONTROLE HÍBRIDO PARA ATENUAÇÃO DE VIBRAÇÕES EM EDIFÍCIOSSUZANA MOREIRA AVILA BENEVELI 01 November 2002 (has links)
do uso do controle híbrido.
linearidade da rigidez do AMS no comportamento do sistema
principal.
[en] In this work the use of structural control is studied to
protect dynamically loaded building structures against
undesirable vibration levels, which can cause human
discomfort and, even more, compromise the building safety
and integrity. The three types of structural control,
passive, ative and hybrid, are analysed to show the
advantages of hybrid control in reducing undesirable
vibration levels. The chosen control mechanism is the so
called tuned mass damper (TMD), due to its large
application in Civil Engineering, having a great number of
these devices been installed in buildings, bridges and
industrial chimneys to control structural vibrations
induced by wind loads. It is also verified the influence of
TMD non linear stiffness on the main system behaviour. The
use of multiple tuned mass dampers is studied as a possible
way of improving the TMD robustness and performance. The
hybrid mass damper (HMD) behaviour and efficiency
comparing to the passive mass damper is analysed in detail.
To calculate the control force the following control
algorithms are used: classical optimum linear control,
instantaneous optimum control and non-linear optimum
control. A strategy to define the weighting matrices used
in the instantaneous optimum control algorithm that
minimizes the harmonic response amplitude is presented.
Several numerical examples are presented aalong the work.
The results show that the hybrid control is more efficient
that the passive or active control used separately,
requiring smaller forces reducing in this way the cost of
the control system. The hybrid control system showed to be
more efficient in reducing vibrations caused by loadings
which had different frequencies from that considered on the
passive control design. Moreover it was shown that hybrid
control has a satisfactory perfomance when discrepancies in
natural frequency occur.

[en] This work presents a method for evaluation of the fatigue resistance of a drilling tower considering the sea surface elevation, the dynamics of the platform on which the tower is installed and the dynamics of the tower itself. Reduced order models are used for obtaining the sea surface elevation and the dynamics of the tower, and the uncertainties on the parameters of the components of the system can be included in the analysis as well. The analysis can be done for several sea states, according its probability distribution, and no assumption about the probability distribution of the stress ranges has to be made previously. The histogram for the distribution of stress ranges for the entire working life of the equipment is obtained using a Rainflow technique. The results and the uncertainties on them are discussed.

[en] AN INTRODUCTION TO MODEL REDUCTION THROUGH THE KARHUNEN-LOÈVE EXPANSION / [pt] UMA INTRODUÇÃO À REDUÇÃO DE MODELOS ATRAVÉS DA EXPANSÃO DE KARHUNEN-LOÈVECLAUDIO WOLTER 10 April 2002 (has links)
modelo investigado. / [en] This dissertation has the main objetive of studying
applications of the Karhunen-Loève expansion or
decomposition in structural dynamics. This technique
consists basically in obtaining a linear decomposition of
the dynamic response of a general system represented by a
stochastic vector field. It has the important property of
optimality, meaning that for a given number of modes, no
other linear decomposition is able of better representing
this response. This information compression capability
characterizes this decomposition as powerful tool for the
construction of reduced-order models of mechanical systems
in general. Particularly, this work deals with structural
dyamics problems where its application is still quite new.
Initially, the main hypothesis necessary to the application
of the Karhunen-Loève expansion are presented, as well as
two existing techniques for its implementation that
have different domains of use. Special attention is payed
to the relation between empirical eigenmodes provided by
the expansion and mode shapes intrinsic to linear vibrating
systems, both discrete and continuous, exemplified by a
bidimensional truss and a rectangular plate. Furthermore,
the advantages and disadvantages of using this expansion as
an alternative tool for classical modal analysis are
discussed. As a nonlinear application, the study of a
vibroimpact system consisting of a cantilever beam whose
transversal displacement is constrained by two elastic
barriers is presented. The empirical eigenmodes provided by
the Karhunen-Loève expansion are then used to formulate a
reduced-order model through Galerkin projection and the
performance of this new model is investigated.

[pt] AVALIAÇÃO DE ÍNDICES MODAIS PARA IDENTIFICAÇÃO DE DANOS EM PASSARELAS METÁLICAS / [en] EVALUATION OF MODAL INDICES FOR DAMAGE IDENTIFICATION ON STEEL FOOTBRIDGESAUGUSTO CESAR MIRANDA FEIJAO 27 June 2023 (has links)
As diferentes
[en] Among the various damage detection methodologies, the Vibration-based
damage identification (VBDI) methods stand out, since the deterioration present
in structural elements directly influences the global and local dynamic response
of the structure, causing changes in the dynamic parameters. The different
approaches found in the literature review for dynamic damage detection focus
mainly on one-dimensional or straight structures, which in turn may not represent
the actual dynamic behavior of bold structures such as bridges and footbridges
with different geometry. Some modal indices, namely modal curvature, modal
flexibility, and modal strain energy were evaluated for a steel footbridge with
curved geometry. For this purpose, a finite element model of it was used, from
which the three-dimensional mode shapes were extracted. In addition, a recently
proposed index, called resultant vector, which incorporates three-dimensional
modal coordinates, is also evaluated and compared to the aforementioned ones.
The results show that the accuracy of the indices for damage localization is
correlated with the region of the structure where the damage is located. It is then
concluded that for damage detection in a real structure, it is necessary to use more
than one damage index. The impact of the damage magnitude on the accuracy of
the indices is also studied. The influence of damage in adjacent beams and how
this is reflected in the indices is also investigated in order to avoid ambiguity in
damage location, and to correctly direct inspections and structural integrity
monitoring programs.

[pt] IDENTIFICAÇÃO MODAL DE DANOS EM PASSARELAS METÁLICAS COM USO DE REDES NEURAIS ARTIFICIAIS / [en] MODAL IDENTIFICATION OF DAMAGE IN STEEL FOOTBRIDGES USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKVITOR ABRAHAO GONCALVES 22 March 2022 (has links)
danos.
[en] Civil structures are subjected to different deterioration and corrosion actions
throughout their entire service life, which can generate variations in their physical
characteristics. These actions can cause damage to its functioning, and possibly
leading to collapse in more severe cases. In addition, technology development
which allows the design of increasingly slender structures, can produce excessive
vibrations, which elevates the importance ofstructural monitoring to a higher level
from the perspective of infrastructure managers. Particularly, in the case of
bridges and walkaways, due to their large dimensions make monitoring and
inspection even more difficult. Thus, with the aim of providing methods to assist
in structural monitoring and facilitate visual inspections, several damage
identification methods are investigated, which are based on structures dynamic
characteristics, such as natural frequencies and mode shapes. The conducted
literature review revealed that there is a difficulty in applying these identification
methods in large-scale and complex structures. Thus, this research aims to study
these barriers and propose a solution based on the development of a new damage
index based on the structure s mode shapes. Furthermore, through the application
of machine learning algorithms and pattern recognition, such as Artificial Neural
Networks (ANN), it is proposed to increase the efficiency of the damage
identification and quantification process. Then, the proposed methodology is
tested numerically on a steel footbridge model inspired by a real structure located
in the region of the Olympic Center Terminal, in the city of Rio de Janeiro – RJ.
The damage identification method is studied through the application of the
proposed damage index, incorporating the neural network and assessing the
impact of ANNs parameters variation in the global efficiency of the damage
detection method.
