[pt] A elevação da expectativa de vida, a crescente independência financeira da mulher e a facilitação do processo de divórcio são alguns dos fatores que contribuem para um aumento do número de separações de casais, que permaneceram unidos por muitos anos, na sociedade ocidental contemporânea. Com o objetivo de investigar as motivações, sentimentos, expectativas e repercussões envolvidas nesta decisão, realizamos um estudo de campo com dez mulheres das camadas sociais média e alta da população, que vivenciaram o processo de divórcio de um casamento duradouro, no Rio de Janeiro. A partir do discurso das participantes, emergiram nove categorias de análise: expectativa em relação ao casamento; motivos para a separação; desafios da separação tardia; alternativas para o enfrentamento das dificuldades; reação dos filhos, amigos e familiares; vida profissional, antes e depois da separação; vida afetiva e sexual após separação; avaliação do momento atual; e conselhos sobre o casamento. Os resultados apontam que, apesar da separação conjugal mobilizar sentimentos de tristeza, decepção e solidão, as participantes ressaltam que ela pode representar um bom segundo tempo na vida de alguém. No entanto, os dados indicam que as mesmas, quando se aproximam dos sessenta anos, mais desafiador se torna o processo. Isso devido às mudanças psicológicas e físicas e porque a sociedade contemporânea cultua a juventude, a beleza e a forma física. / [en] In the contemporary western society, the increase in life expectancy and the financially independent women, and the easer divorce process legislation are factors that contribute to increase the number of separations of married couples which stayed together for many years. Aiming to investigate the motivations, feelings, expectations and implications involved in this decision, we conducted a field study in Rio de Janeiro with ten women from middle and upper economic layers of the population, who were divorced from a long time marriage. From the discourse of participants emerged nine categories of analysis: the expectation of the marriage; reasons for separation; challenges in late life separation; alternatives for coping with difficulties; reaction from children, friends and family; professional life, before and after separation; affective and sexual life after separation; evaluation of the present moment and advice about marriage. The results show that, in spite of marital mobilizing feelings of sadness, disappointment and loneliness, the participants highlighted that it offers a good second chance in one s life. However, the results indicate that when they are approaching the sixties, the process becomes more challenging. This is due to physical and psychological changes, inherent in this phase, especially because contemporary society worships youth, beauty and fitness.

[pt] Esta dissertação visa compreender alguns aspectos da representação da meia-idade feminina na ficção seriada, a partir das séries Mare of Easttown, da plataforma Max, As pequenas coisas da vida, da Star Plus. Imaginários se constroem na produção, circulação e apropriação de símbolos. Daí a relevância de se compreender o trabalho da representação da meia-idade, a partir da interpretação de signos de personagens femininas difundidas nas séries. Tendo a mulher como foco estruturador da narrativa, a série constitui-se em um indicador privilegiado de um momento de debate social sobre questões de gênero e envelhecimento, que se materializa por meio de discursos cuja produção de sentido se articula com o empoderamento feminino e com o respeito à pluralidade de identidades de gerações e gênero. / [en] This dissertation aims to understand some aspects of the representation of middle-aged in serialized fiction, using the series Mare of Easttown from the HBO Max platform and Tiny little things from Star Plus as examples. Imaginaries are constructed in the production, circulation and appropriation of symbols. Hence the relevance of understanding the representation of middle-aged through symbols and characters disseminated in these series. With the women as the narrative s structuring focus, the series constitutes a privileged indicator of a moment of social debate on gender and aging issues, materialized through discourses that articulate the production of meanings aligned with female empowerment and respect for generational and gender plurality.
