A cultura do pinhãomanso
baixos teores acumulados no tecido.
efluente doméstico no solo ocasionou elevação no pH, conforme aumenta a
The cultivation of physic nut in recent years has received special attention, being
considered a altemative energy source universally accepted. The objective of this work
to analyze the feasibility of using lower quality water for irrigation and phosphorus
leveis on yields of physic nut during the 3rd and 4th year of production. Growth
variables were influenced by the blades of fluid consumption of the physic nut from 30
days after pruning. The number of leaves and stem diameter were influenced by
phosphorus at 30 and 90 days after pruning, respectively. Variables, plant height and
leaf area were affected by the interaction of 30 and 30, 60 and 90 days after pruning,
respectively. The weight of the fruit and water use effíciency were influenced by the
depth of fluid consumption of the physic nut, however, were not affected by
phosphorus. The stem diameter, number of leaves and water consumption are linear and
negatively affected by salinity of irrigation water. Leaf area was the only variable
influenced by the growth rates of phosphorus in the three evaluations and the number of
leaves was affected at 30 DAP. The salinity of irrigation water from 1.6 dS m"1
negatively interferes with the accumulation of dry leaves of physic nut. The average
water consumption of the physic nut decreased 22.5% per unit increase in salinity of
irrigation water for 180 days. The physic nut demonstrates sensitivity to salinity of
irrigation water with electrical conductivity higher than 1.6 dS m"'. The increase in
hydration with wastewater resulted increase in leaf gas exchange, notably in the rate of
carbon assimilation. The content of the elements the following order of decreasing leaf:
N> K> Mg> Ca> P> Na> S> Fe> Mn> Zn> Cl> Cu. With increasing hydration leveis of
P, Zn, and Cu increased while the leveis of Cl, Mn and Na decreased their
concentrations in the leaves. P2O5 doses applied did not influence the content of any of
the elements studied. The salinity of irrigation water led to reductions in stomatal
conductance, leading to declines in rates of transpiration and photosynthesis, and
increased leaf temperature. The nutrient content of the leaves the following order: K>
N> Ca> Mg> P> S and Cl> Na> Fe> Mn> Zn> Cu, for macro and micronutrients,
respectively. Aside from covering ali aspects evaluated increased with increasing
salinity of irrigation water. The maximum N and K in leaves of physic nut was obtained
with an ECw of 2.2 dS m"1. The irrigation leveis influenced the yield components such as issuance of inflorescence, number of bunches, fruit number and weight of 100 seeds.
The oil content was significantly influenced by the levei of fluid there was an increase
of 11.51% at 1.25 levei of fluid. The increase of phosphorus leveis influence among the
variables studied, only the number of clusters. The number of days to issue the
inflorescence, number of clusters per plant, grain yield and oil content of seeds of
physic nut were negatively affected by increasing salinity of irrigation water.
Acculturate of physic nut irrigated with electrical conductivity of 1.3 dS m"1 reaches an
average 10% loss of mass and therefore the oil content in seeds. Only the number of
days to inflorescence emission was affected by phosphorus. There was a positive
correlation between 100 seed weight and oil content of seeds of physic nut. Physic nut
plants irrigated with 100% of field capacity with wastewater show a reduction in mass
production and leaf area compared with plants irrigated with water supply. This species
has the ability to adjust osmotic from the synthesis of glycine betaine. However,
demonstrates that the accumulation of proline in the tissue is not effective for osmotic
adjustment due to its low leveis accumulated in the tissue. The application of layers of
fluid replacement with domestic wastewater in the soil caused an increase in pH with
increasing water availability, however, the effect on potassium was reversed. With respect
to the P2O5 leveis in the soil profile, there was no efTect on the elements in the study.

ysic nut {Jatropha curcas L.) it is an oleaginous plant, currently in domestication process
and in researched for biodiesel production. Between May 2008 and January 2009, two
experiments were installed and carried out in a greenhouse, at the Natural Resources and
Technology Center at the Federal University of Campina Grande - PB with the objective of
studying the effects of the irrigation with saline water and sewage wastewater on the growth
and development of Jatropha plants at second cycle of production after being pruning, beyond
to evaluation of its impacts on soil and plant nutritional status in the end of the research. The
plants were grown in drainage lysimeters (200 L) containing 230 kg of non-saline and nonsodic
soil. In Experiment I (use of wastewater). the statistical design in randomized blocks
was adopted, in 5x2 +1 factorial scheme with four replications, five 5 leveis of irrigation (Li)
were studied, based on evapotranspiration replacement of the plant (ETc): Li (Lii = 25; LÍ2 =
50; Li3 = 75, = LÍ4 = 100 and Li5 = 125% ETc), 2 pruning heights ('pruning low' - plants
pruned at the height of 40 cm, and 'high pruning' - plants pruned at 80 cm) and a control
treatment (plants irrigated with water from public supply without hidric restriction). In
Experiment II (use of saline water). treatments consisted of five leveis of electrical
conductivity of the irrigation water - ECw (0.6; 1.2; 1.8; 2.4 and 3.0 dS m"1, at 25 °C), also
arranged in the experimental design of randomized block with four replications. Ali the
plants, in beginning, were pruned at 80 cm height. In both experiments, the experimental unit
consisted of two lysimeters, each containing one plant. The plants were watered at 3 day
intervals. Experiment I (use of wastewater): water stress affected the growth of physic nut
plants, and the leaf area was much sensitive. Low leveis of water replacement in the soil, as
25% ETc, causes delay of 65 days in the beginning of flowering. Fruit production was more
sensitive than growth. Plants were more productive when irrigated with 125% of
evapotranspiration, producing more than 400 g of seeds, on average, with oil content of
36.24%. The application of sewage wastewater improved the soil chemical properties. At 240
days after pruning, the initial concentrations of nutrients were increased by improving the sum
of bases-S, cation exchange capacity-CEC and base saturation and, pH increased linearly with
the rate of replacement leveis. Sodium was the most accumulated in the leaves (11,160 mg kg"
'). Plants subjected to high pruning (80 cm), fructified more and earlier and more productive. n general, plants irrigated with wastewater with replacement leveis more than 50% ETc had
growth equivalent or significantly higher than those in control treatment, besides being
earlier. Regarding the control, soil fertility was improved with the application of wastewater,
with pronounced effect on the P, Ca, sum of bases (S), base saturation and cation exchange
capacity - CEC, reflecting on N-leaf, P-leaf and Ca-leaf, but without improving the quality of
seed oil. Experiment II (use of saline water): initially, the salinity of irrigation water
stimulated the emergence of shoots, the number of leaves and the leaf area at 30 days after
pruning, and their indexes increased with the increasing of ECw, leading to higher
evapotranspiration. After 90 days of pruning, evapotranspiration rate was reduced linearly
with increasing ECw. At 240 days after pruning, the plant height, stem diameter, leaf number
and leaf area of physic nut were affected linearly with decreases of 2.52, 5.05, 15.45 and
12.17%, respectively, per unit of ECw increase. The beginning of flowering (105 days),
fructification (147 days) and maturation (188 days) were affected, linearly, by salinity with
delay of almost two weeks for each ECw increase (dS m"1). The fruits ripened between 9 and
10 days, regardless of salinity levei. The yield components were severely affected with
reductions of up to 90% in plants irrigated with ECw equal to 3.00 dS m"1. Plants irrigated
with water of 3.00 dS m"1 until 240 days after pruning produced one or two fruit bunches.
Individual weights of seed and fruit were significantly affected with reduction of 20.60% and
27.92% for each increase of 1 dS m"1 in irrigation water. Soluble ions were accumulated in the
soil solution, in the following sequence of concentration: Cl" > Na+ > HCO"3 > Ca++ = Mg++ >
K+ (29.05 > 17.39 > 10.00 > 9.40 = 9.22 > 0.36 mmolc L"1), characterize the soil as nonsaline.
Cálcium, sulfur, zinc and copper leveis were lower than the appropriate leveis reported
in literature. Sodium was the most accumulated element in the leaf (15,477 mg kg"1). The oil
content of physic nut fruits was compromised when the plants were irrigated with saline water
up to 0.60 dS m"1; plants irrigated with water of 3.0 dS m"1 (22.5% oil), compared to 0.60 dS
m"1 (32.03% oil) had oil content reduced by about 30.55%.

The use without control of water by man for various purposes has promoted scarcity of this
natural resource especially in arid and semi-arid regions and consequently limiting the social
and economic development of regions. The planned reuse is widely used around the world,
however, Brazil, even having regions with water scarcity, this practice is not yet widespread.
The eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is a vegetable that has great importance in vegetable
crops market in Brazil and worldwide. The objective of this research was to evaluate the
technical feasibility of the use of nitrogen and phosphorus along with irrigation using post-
treated wastewater in sand filter with intermittent flow in growth, biomass production and
flowering eggplants grown in greenhouse in Paraíba semiarid region. The experiment was
conducted in a greenhouse, in the Science and Technology Center Agrifood (CCTA / UFCG),
Campus de Pombal - PB, and the treatments resulted in the combination of two factors: four
doses of nitrogen (N1 - 3.55; N2 - 6.2; N3 - 8.9; N4 - 11.55 g N / pot) and four doses of
phosphorus fertilization (P1 - 15.28; P2 - 26.74; P3 - 38.2; P4 - 49 66 g P / pot) corresponding
respectively to 40; 70; 100; 130% as fertilizer indication for eggplants when grown in pots
irrigated with treated wastewater post-intermittent sand filter (AR). It was added to a
treatment with 100% application of N and P and whose plants were irrigated with water
supply (AA). The experimental design was a completely randomized design, with treatments
arranged in a factorial 4 x 4 + 1, with four replications. We conclude It follows you can use
wastewater to irrigate eggplants, at conditions of semiarid. Doses of 3.55 g of N and 15.28 g P
per plant when using wastewater in irrigation eggplants are sufficient to meet the nutritional
needs of the crop. The fresh weight of eggplants sheet decreased linearly with the increment
of N application. The fresh mass production and shoot dry eggplant plants irrigated with
wastewater with 40 % application of N and P did not differ from plants receiving 100 % of
the N and P indication when irrigated with water supply and reuse. The flowering was not
affected by nitrogen and phosphorus doses, or by different types of water used in irrigation.
There was no significant interaction of the factors studied on the variables evaluated in any of
the study periods.

The use of byproducts in agriculture has become quite a promising alternative by providing
a destination for the highly-organic waste materiais produced by a variety of human
activities, it serves to bolster both environmental and economic factor, providing elevated
leveis of nutrients to the plants which, in turn, brings about a reduction in the costs of
chemical fertilization. The objective of this study was to evaluate the residual effects of
organic fertilization using castor cake as well as the impact of the disposal of treated
sewage effluents on the chemical properties of the soil and the development and
production of cotton cultivated in succession to a crop of sesame plants. Cotton plants were cultivated in pots which had been previously used for the cultivation of sesame that had been submitted to treatments resulted from the factorial design of five leveis of castor cake in the substrate (0, 2, 3, 4 and 5 ton ha"1), two qualities of irrigation water (potable water and treated domestic effluent) in addition to two additional treatments with chemical
fertilization (NPK + potable water and NPK + wastewater). The residual effect of the
castor cake and fertilizer sources applied in the first cycle and the inherent impact of the
application of the two different sources of irrigation water on the cotton crop and the plant-
soil system were evaluated through the determination of growth and cotton production, soil
chemical properties and nutritional state of cotton plants at the end of the cycle. It was
possible to conclude that the irrigation with wastewater contributed to reduce the soil
acidity and elevate phosphorous and potassium contents in the soil and plant. Additionally,
the domestic effluent was capable of partially supplying the nitrogen content and
completely supplying the leveis of boron and iron required by the plants, contributing to
the growth and production of cotton. However, the sodium leveis were elevated plant and
soil as a result of irrigation with potable water. The castor cake applied during the first
cycle resulted in a residual effect, with the increasing leveis of biofertilizer increasing the
organic material content, phosphorous and iron in the soil, in addition to increasing the leaf
area, height, dry matter of the aerial part and cotton production during the second cycle.

nutrientes.
a germinação.
Castor bean cultivation, due to the high water and nutrients consumption, presents the
ideal characteristics for receiving wastewater from treated sewage. Economics of
fertilizer, recycling of water and nutrients and increased productivity are the main
advantages of this practice. The objective of this study was to investigate, under field
conditions, the effect of three configurations of domestic wastewater treatment, water
supply and water depth on growth, yield, plant nutritional status and fertility of the soil
at the end of the experiment. A randomized block design was used, with 4x2 scheme
of factorial analysis with four replications, testing four types of water (Al - effluent
from the UASB reactor + Polishing Pond; A2 - effluent from the Digester Decant +
Anaerobic Filter + Stabilization Pond; A3 - effluent form the Anaerobic Filter +
Stabilization Pond; and A4 - Urban water supply) and two water depths (100% and
120% Crops évapotranspiration). Water was applied using a drip irrigation system every
three days. Plant height, stem diameter and number of leaves were evaluated at 29, 43,
57, 71 and 86 days after germination. Productivity of seeds, plant nutritional status and
soil fertility were evaluated at the end of the experiment. Based on the results no
significant difference in growth and seed production when using treated wastewater.
Contribution of nutrients through wastewater favored the growth of plants, but was not
enough to increase the production in appropriate levels of mineral fertilization and
irrigation. For soil fertility, there was no significant difference in levels of P, K and Na
for the three configurations of wastewater treatment. In general, there were no
restrictions regarding the contents of P, Ca and Mg in the leaf of castor bean. The
concentrations of N, K and Na in the leaf tissues were significantly equal for plants
irrigated with treated effluent.
