My dissertation focuses on few selected First Republic travelogues and its authors who in their works reflected their own subjective relationship towards the Soviet Union in the first half of the 20th century. By the gradual assessment of the research questions that I define by my complex approach at the end of my dissertation I reach the conclusion that I outline in the introduction. The goal of my methodological research is to evaluate the ability of recognition and reflexion of selected intellectuals and their perception of reality of the Soviet regime in the span of two decades by analytical and comparative methods divided into six chapters. The thesis focuses on such topics as a theory of non-democratic regimes, ideas, contemporary history and literary history. The travelogue reports of choice are going to provide a picture of contemporary Soviet society that was idealized by some intellectuals who, unlike others, could not have seen through the illusion that the Soviet Union had created. 180 Abstract The English-language title of the work Holokaust jako fikce is not entirely unambiguous, because the equivalent, The Holocaust as a Fiction, due to its indefinite article, comes close to denial of the Holocaust as a historical phenomenon. That is of course utterly unacceptable nonsense; however, we encounter denial (concealment) of the Holocaust in history even during the course of the war. Here the author intends to emphasize the basic limits of his own theme. It is not the Holocaust as a historical event - the extermination of European Jewry by means of National Socialist politics in the years 1939-45 - but rather the literary works representing these events. The methodological point of departure is the theory of fictional worlds (Lubomír Doležel etc.), and what interests us is the transfer of actual events into possible and fictional worlds, the representation of the results of that crossover in literary works. The work is divided into four chapters. After delimiting the approaches terminologically and theoretically, each focuses on a functional approach to the given representation. This work is an attempt to gain a deeper understanding of the 1960s through an in-depth analysis of selected literary autobiographies. The first section is devoted to the theoretical foundation for exploring the chosen four texts of autobiographical literature. It is based on the analysis and subsequent comparison diaries of Ivan Diviš and Pavel Juráček and the memory of Vaclav Černý and Ota Filip. Additionally, this paper examines how these writers created an image of the 1960s and early 1970s.mFurther exploration includes narrative elements, for example, by what means texts are constructed, character space time, composition, and relationship to the audience. Moreover, the meaning of writing autobiographical literature, specifically the selected works, will be explored. Lastly, these major themes set the stage for the comprehensive analysis of the authors' works, revealing the creative design, history, society and culture of their time.

Sixties was a special period in the history of Czech literature, because during these years popular literature (especially the detective stories) was written as an artistic literature. During the sixties a lot of detective novels with artistic value were written. In the past (especially during the fifties), vacation literature was considered bad. In the first half of the sixties mainly socialist detective stories were written. There were important political opinions of the author. Socialist authors celebrated police work. In the late sixties detective stories under the Anglo-Saxon tradition were written. For authors, it was important to respect the rules of writing crime fiction. They thought that crime novels people read just for fun. At the end of the sixties detective stories have never had such a good position in the literature. Through the interpretation of the short rural prose of five selected authors of the second half of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century (K. V. Rais, J. K. Šlejhar, A. a V. Mrštíkové, T. Nováková, J. Kratochvíl) the thesis deals with the topic of the rural family according to a few aspects that were chosen on the basis of the historical and sociological findings of the technical literature about the rural family in the nineteenth century. The aspects treated by the above mentioned authors are ordered into the chapters "The family model", "Home and world", "Family and the rural year", "Family and the conditions of property", "Birth and death in the rural family" and "Family and traditions and the norms of religious life". The works of the authors are inserted into the context of the rural prose of the nineteenth century. The follow-up interpretation proves the differences in the approach of the authors to the depicted topic.

The dissertation entitled "Religious Issues in Karolina Světlá's Ještěd Novels" deals with an analysis of the Ještěd Novels by the author Karolina Světlá. It characterises the depiction of vernacular devoutness in the novels by means of an analysis of the changes in the characters' religious consciousness and their subsequent interpretation. The paper confronts the fictional depiction of the various forms of religiousness with real historic facts; the most important factors of the religious positions of the "long" 19th century are verified on the scale of the Ještěd Novels. The objective of the paper is to shed light on the progressive qualitative changes in Karolina Světlá's works of prose and interpret them against the backdrop of the defined problem area, which is the period concept of devoutness and attitudes to faith as such.

KEY WORDS Translation into Czech, Czech Literature, French Literature, Literary Reception, Translation History, Czechoslovakia ABSTRACT This MA thesis focuses on translation of French literature into Czech in the period between 1918 and 1929. The thesis is based on a corpus of bibliographic data, which is submitted to analysis from both quantitative and qualitative perspective. The main aim of this study is to describe the spectrum of Czech translations of French fiction published in the second decade of the 20th century. Firstly, the thesis identifies the most often published authors as well as the most influential Czech publishers and describes their major areas of interest. The translated works are classified by genre and literary movement with reference to the prevalent classification in today's referential works on French literary history. Secondly, the thesis summarizes the principal tendencies in the reception of French literature in Czech translation during the period in question.

Ondrej Hanus Czech Sonnet in the 1st Half of the 20th Century Abstract This thesis examines the history of Czech sonnets in 1885-1948. Based on a carefully selected material, it analyses the position of particular texts both in the work of individual writers (from Jaroslav Vrchlicky to Jan Zabrana) and in the defined period of Czech literary history. This period is divided into three phases (1885-1900, 1900-1930 a 1931-1948). Both formal aspects (metre, rhyme, strophic structure) and functional aspects (the various roles of the sonnet in the individual phases of Czech literary history) are taken into account. An important part of the thesis is the revision of the standard narrow formalistic definition of the sonnet. This is substituted with a much broader definition, allowing us to regard various formal experiments as fully-fledged sonnets.

Diploma thesis Translation's of Edgar Allan Poe's Poems in the Context of the Czech Literature maps Edgar Allan Poe's influence on Czech culture in the context of Czech literary science. It analyzes chosen theoretical essays and on their basis constructs a continuous picture of understanding of Poe's texts and his personality in specified period of time since year 1945 until today. The thesis' goal is to depict the relationship between Edgar Allan Poe and Czech culture, to state the changes in understanding throughout the different time periods and to reflect on its importance. The whole work is divided into two parts, the first one reminds results of preceding research, whereas the second one expands on them. Bibliography on Poe's work and personality and the list of all Poe's works published in Czech language represent also important parts of the work.

The aim of this thesis is to examine the position of short stories among Czech translations of foreign fiction. The theoretical part deals with the terminology and definition of this genre and outlines its history in both Czech and French cultural contexts up until today. When discussing Czech short story collections, it contrasts translations with books by Czech authors. This is also mentioned in interviews with editors and publishers, which are included in the empirical part of the thesis together with a corpus of short story collections translated from English and French and published between 1990 and 2017. The corpus is accompanied by a commentary. The third part of the thesis is a translation case study. It consists in choosing a French short story collection and offering it for publication. This part includes a review assessment of the book and the translation of four short stories, accompanied, for the purpose of this thesis, by a translation analysis.
