従来の近代「文学史」では、明治後期に流行した紀行文が閑却されてきた。本論文では、明治30年代から40年代を代表する紀行文作家の一人、小島烏水の紀行文および紀行文論の分析を行った。彼が紀行文に求めるものが「歴史」から「科学」的知識と正しさ、そして自然の「真実」を観察する姿勢へと変化したことを明らかにし、同時代の紀行文との距離、小説をめぐる言説との影響関係なども視野に入れつつ、明治後期に起きた紀行文流行の内実を考察した。 / 博士(国文学) / Doctor of Philosophy in Japanese Literature / 同志社大学 / Doshisha University
