隨著兩岸交流日益增加，正視兩岸的未來，是刻不容緩的議題。本研究著眼於大陸台人在當地發展的社會融入程度，以認知情感層面的視角，提供關於兩岸和平發展的獨特看法。兩岸人民皆背負著過往糾葛的歷史共業，大陸台人更是必須面臨「矢志不渝或隨波逐流？」的抉擇，標示自我的身分認同，幾乎成為生存的重要條件。隨著本研究的脈絡，身分認同清楚的展現支配異鄉人的社會分類與社會比較行為之力量，而其社會融入程度也因此不言而喻。
