Was beim Stichwort 'Intellektuelle' einem historisch informierten Zeitgenossen einfällt, ist häufig der Ursprung des Ausdrucks als Schimpfwort. Und auch heute scheint noch nicht gänzlich klar, ob der Begriff jeglichen Geruch des Verwerflichen abgelegt habe. Es ist Zeichen einer gewissen Lebendigkeit, wenn der Sprachgebrauch sich noch nicht völlig beruhigt hat, wenn Divergenzen und Oppositionen seine Bedeutung regulieren. Für die folgenden Bemerkungen möchte ich mich auf die Seite der Anwälte des lntellektuellentums schlagen und nach einem Jahrhundert unentschiedener Diskussion auf einen Charakterzug hinweisen, der bei aller Kontroverse im Grunde kaum zu übersehen ist: Intellektuelle werden verehrt. Auch wenn freilich nicht alle Anwälte des Intellektuellentums im engeren Sinne als Verehrer bezeichnet werden können, scheint mir doch das Phänomen der Verehrung deutlich präsent: Sowohl in den Versuchen, die Rolle des Intellektuellen zu verteidigen, wie auch in den Bemühungen, diese Rolle nüchtern als eine gesellschaftliche Aufgabe zu definieren. Erst recht sind alle wütenden Angriffe auf die Intellektuellen verständlich nur, wenn man sie als Attacken auf den Heiligenschein versteht, der mehr oder weniger unwillkürlich durch jede positive Besetzung zum Leuchten gebracht wird.

My thesis is an attempt to develop a naturalistic account of mental representation based on the notion of causation. The thesis consists of two main parts. The first part (chapters II and III) develops an understanding of naturalization. According to my proposal, naturalization is a two-step process: in the first step a set of conditions is specified which are thought to be the essential aspects of the notion under study and in the second step a naturalistic system is proposed which is claimed to satisfy these conditions. In accordance with this understanding of naturalization, the second part (chapters IV and V) of the thesis sets out the conditions which a successful naturalization of mental representation has to satisfy and then develops a new naturalistic account of mental representation based on the causal connections between environmental properties and the brain.

The purpose of the present study is to signify the explanatory value of the Meno on the coherence as well as the disparateness of the Plato&rsquo / s early and middle dialogues. Indeed, the Meno exposes the transition on the content and form of these dialogues. The first part of the dialogue resembles the Socrates&rsquo / way of investigation, the so-called Elenchus, whereas Plato presents his own philosophical project in the second part of the dialogue. Three fundamental elements of Plato&rsquo / s middle dialogues explicitly arise for the very first time in the Meno, namely / the recollection, the hypothetical method and reasoning out the explanation. Therefore, the connexion of the early and middle dialogues can be understood better if the structure of the Meno is analyzed properly. In other words, the Meno is the keystone dialogue which enables the readers of Plato to sense the development in Socratic-Platonic philosophy.

This thesis analyzes the level of social services in the Ústí region. In the theoretical part they are generally characterized by social services. Closer is performed in general as to the method of financing social services, as one of the parameters of the level of social services. Further analysis is provided social services provided in facilities in the Ústí region and development expenditures in the years 2007 - 2013 in selected social care services, with analysis of their financing using elemental characteristics of time series. As part of the work is done the necessary analysis of demographic trends in the Ústí region for the period 2005 - 2014, including calculated the most important indicators of demographic trends, as one of the prerequisites for determining the required process development in the field of social services. The practical part is using questionnaire establishes the level of social services in the Ústí region from the perspective of service users, applicants or services to the general public. Their evaluation were used statistical methods in the field of addiction qualitative character. The result of this thesis are proposals for measures that should contribute to the creation of quality social services system, a wide range of social services and their development.

Abstract The society has become increasingly interested in the issue of seniors at present. Considering the increasing age of seniors, a situation when they are not able to take care of themselves and need help of another person may occur. The assistance secured by health and social services may be provided to seniors in their homes or in housing facilities. Human needs are changing and developing with age and form an integral part of the personality of an individual. The theoretical part of the thesis addressed the terms of aging, old age, needs and health and social services. The data were collected using the qualitative research strategy, the method of questioning and the technique of interviews, involved observation and technical literature analysing. While interviewing the respondents, their anonymity was respected. The objective of the thesis was to ascertain whether needs of seniors are satisfied in relation with the offered health and social services. In the research, the main research question was set out. In order to answer the question, five research sub-questions associated with the interview structure were used. The research was conducted in retirement home Hvízdal České Budějovice, p.o. (organization co-funded by the state budget). The main research question led to confirmation of the thesis objective. The obtained information may be used for improvement of quality of the services provided in the facility where the research was conducted.
