Silva Salas, Javier January 2015 (has links)

Arnold, Barbara Karin. January 1965 (has links)
Most Swiss writers participate actively in the affairs of their country: they take sides on political and economic issues and, like all other Swiss male citizens, cast their votes several times a year. In the tradition of Swiss Literature, the figure of the energetic or didactic writer predominates. Most writers are active in another profession in addition to writing. It could even be said that they consider their art only as a secondary profession. Until recently, the Swiss had a tendency to respect those writers only who had proved their qualities in business or industry before they took to writing. [...]

Graham Greene : the link to fantasy

Tracey, Linda January 1992 (has links)
Graham Greene has stated that he believes there to be an undercurrent of fantasy running through all of his work that has largely gone unnoticed by his critics. Within the context of any discussion on Greene can be found a starting point for an evaluation of his work in terms of the fantastic and fantasy. Eric S. Rabkin defines fantasy as the inverse of reality. In a fantasy world, the ground rules, expectations, and perspectives of everyday experience are reversed, or diametrically opposed, and the effect is a sense of hesitation and wonder. All of Greene's fiction describes worlds divided. He constructs borders that continuously separate people, places, situations, motivations, perspectives, objectives, and states of mind. Each side of the border describes a world that is the opposite of the other. The reality of one side is turned over on the other side, and life on the border is unpredictable and uncertain. The concept of alternate realities and other worlds which characterize fantasies, can be applied to all of Greene's works in general, and more specifically to a particular group of the fiction which exhibits a much higher degree of fantastic content.

Muslims, national security and the state in Uzbekistan

Fugère, Charles. January 2005 (has links)
The idea of an "Islamic threat" to national security in Uzbekistan is widespread in the media and amongst several academics. The regime of Uzbek President Islam Karimov has repeatedly emphasized the seriousness of this threat and acted to contain it. In this thesis, I examine both the present ability of different Muslim political actors to challenge the Uzbek state's defense position and recent historical elements of the Uzbek security strategy related to Islam. I argue that the relationship between Muslims and national security in Uzbekistan is characterized by the two following observations: (1) it is unlikely that Muslims are able to present a national security risk and (2) there are reasons to suspect that the national security policies of the Uzbek leadership target Islamic fundamentalism at least in part to legitimize the continued repression of most types of opposition.

[The] individual in the novels of Graham Greene

Boswell, William C. January 1952 (has links)
Note: / Graham Greene’s first three novels are historical adventure stories. For example, the man within, published in 1929, is the story of a young man who betrays his fellow smugglers into the hands of the law. The examination of his fear because of his knowledge that they will be avenged, constitutes the main material of the book. The novels of Greene which appeared in the period 1932-1938, however, have a contemporary setting.
