Soto Reyes, Diana Paz January 2012 (has links)

Sex education for young adolescents: enhancing parental involvement

Guillory, Dorothy 04 May 2010 (has links)

The frequent incidence and seriousness of youth problems such as delinquency, runaways, drug abuse, and suicide create significant social problems. The tumultuous nature of adolescence, which offers a tremendous challenge to families, has captured the public's attention through adolescent sexuality (Herz, Goldberg, & Reis, 1984; Trussell, 1988). Considered a serious national health issue, the sexual behavior of adolescents is an area of increased concern as is the incidence of sexually transmitted disease, pregnancy I and abortion rise among teens (Mast, 1988).
/ Master of Science in Education

Approaches to map anamorphosis

Klipsch, Colin 30 March 2010 (has links)

Map anamorphosis is the distortionof a map to show graphically the variation of some quantity from region to region. The process of anamorphosis modifies the original map regions, keeping the inter-region topology, to produce new regions whose areas are proportional to their respective values of the relevant quantity. A typical example would be a distorted map of the United States, where each state's area is proportional to its population, yet the states still fit together in the correct way. Such maps, called "cartograms", can provide a good visual sense of where a quantity such as population, is distributed. In this paper we look at five separate attempts to design a computer algorithm for generating cartograms, all of which use triangulation as a basis, and all of which, unfortunately, are unsuccessful. We also examine a working algorithm, in the literature that uses similar ideas in its initial approach. While this algorithm produces aesthetically displeasing results, it may indicate a way to solve the map anamorphosis problem robustly using triangulation. / Master of Science

Personal computer based home automation system

Hellmuth, George F. 19 September 2009 (has links)
The systems engineering process is applied in the development of the preliminary design of a home automation communication protocol. The objective of the communication protocol is to provide a means for a personal computer to communicate with adapted appliances in the home.
A needs analysis is used to ascertain that a need exist for a home automation system. Numerous design alternatives are suggested and evaluated to determine the best possible protocol design. Coaxial cable, fiber optics wire, infrared, and the home power line are each evaluated to determine which would best serve as the communication medium for the communication protocol. A personal computer and a dedicated computer are compared to determine which computer configuration will be used to control the communication protocol. The final design choice which is considered is the LAN protocol type. CSMA/CD and Token Bus are evaluated to determine which protocol type will best support the home automation system.
The results of the system engineering process is a preliminary design for a home communication protocol that will use the home power line, a personal computer, and a CS-WCD LAN protocol to provide a home communication protocol. / Master of Science
