Subnational politics and regime change in Mexico

Durazo Herrmann, Julián. January 2006 (has links)
What happens to subnational states when the parent federation undergoes a regime change process? This is a crucial question in understanding political processes in federal countries. The visible political differentiation amongst subnational states belonging to the same federation underscores the fact that some processes are at work that are being ignored by the literature's current focus on national developments. To fill this lacuna, I develop an analytical model that seeks to explain regional differentiation during federal regime change by focusing directly on subnational politics and institutions in comparative fashion, while accounting for the inescapable influence of broader federal actors and processes. In constructing this model, I draw extensively from the theories of federalism, regime change and political parties. I argue that the decision to initiate a transition in an authoritarian setting belongs to the federation. However, regional political actors mediate federal processes in their territory and give them a profoundly subnational logic. Regionally specific institutions, interests and histories thus become intangible frontiers between subnational politics and external processes. The constant repetition of this mechanism throughout the transition creates distinct subnational polities. To test my hypothesis, I study three cases in central-northern Mexico: Guanajuato, San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas.

Globalization and higher vocational education (HVE) in China : a case study in Shanghai

Wang, Molin, 1975- January 2006 (has links)
In China, higher vocational education (HVE) is a specific educational form in terms of its the educational goals, management structure, and close relationship with the economy. During the past quarter century, China has experienced not only a substantial increase in economic progress, but also the influence of globalization on its political, socio-economic, and educational development. This thesis examines how HVE has changed since the emergence of a socialist market economy (SME) in 1992. It interprets the relationship between globalization and HVE in terms of actual changes that have occurred at the Vocational College of Shanghai Jiaotong University (VCSJTU). / The thesis is significant for three reasons. First, it generates useful insights into the process of HVE policy implementation in China since its economic transformation in the early 1990s, and interprets the relationship between globalization, SME, and HVE. The case study also generates insights which can contribute to understanding HVE policy on learning in relation to the context of the economic situation within China and the impact of globalization. Second, the thesis puts special emphasis on analyzing the culture and value changes in VCSJTU since its foundation and explores the deep roots between different values and their implications for people's understanding and appreciation of globalization in the school context. Third, the academic contributions of this case study include theoretical frames of reference on culture, education, and economic globalization. In particular, the study outlines and analyzes (with reflections) the experience gained during the internal economic transformations within China---an analysis which contributes to the international sociology of education, to an understanding of the values within education in relation to the impact of globalization.

Björck, Gustaf January 2014 (has links)
A change in missiology?: Perspectives on the theology of the Church of Sweden Mission 1945-2000, as reflected through leadership and by missionaries. Like orhermissionary organisations, the Church of Sweden Mission (CSM) has undegone farreaching change and development since its foundation in yhe nineteenth century, This study focuses on how missionaries and CSM's leadership have perceived the developments that have taken place. A survey was constructed and sent to all living missionaries during 2004-2005. Then six focus-group discussions were organised and various appeals for financial collections in local churches during the period 1945-1999 have been scrutinised. The methods employed are based on qualitative analysis (focus-groups), quantitative analysis (survey) and text analysis. A pilot survey, sent to a limited number of persons, was carried out in 2001 and provided guidance for the foumulation of questions both for the survey and for the focus-groups. Chapter 2 give Swedish historical perspectives on mission and missiology from the first beginning of interest in foreign mission around the year 1800 til 2000. Chapter 3 gives international perspectives on missiology after 1945 focusing two major international handbooks on missiology and a Norwegian handbook. Chapter 4: Survey to all missionaries 2004-2005. The answers to the survey showed a clear tendency in the shift of motivation from mission to dialogue and from evangelisation to diaconal and humanitarian goals. 38 per cent say that they have changed their own missiology. Chapter 5: Focus group discussions in 2005. The majority of the participants in the six different focus-group discussions stated that the CSM had gone through major changes both theologically and practically, during the period under study. Chapter 6: Appeals for collections 1945-1999. The analysis shows that evangelisation remained the overall motive that was given for the whole period. On one hand there was a widespread continuity over the whole period, and on the oter hand a certain change in diaconal motives from the 1970s onwards, which were more often presented side by side with evangelisation. All three studies point to a change from conservative theology, to first to liberal theology and then on to radical theology. The change being less clear in the collection appeals than in the survey and the focus-group discussions.

Vallons obscurs au pays du soleil : étude d’un objet géographique, toponyme niçois devenu habitat européen / Vallons obscurs in the land of sun : a study of a geographical object, a toponymy from the Nice area wich has become a european habitat

Tibaut, Aurélie 04 December 2010 (has links)
The Vallons Obscurs are “Natura 2000” sites in the Nice area. The series of valleys are situated on the left bank of the river Var near the city and are protected on a regional, national and European level. In the 19th century, the Vallon Obscur was a unique valley in the region famous for its physical charecteristics. The research focuses primarily on the definition of the geographical object. Of what do the valleys consist and what criteria bring them to life and allow us to locate them? The Vallons Obscurs indeed a very colourful expression, is simultaneously a habitation name, an area of reputable tourist trails and a truly remarkable site. The second part, based on the exploitation of field surveys and archival documents, examines the origins and originality of the darkness of the vallon obscur and compares their geo-systems and landscapes to those of the valleys not considered obscure. The third part explores the future of these valleys. The disappearance of the original Vallon Obscur raises the question of the sensitivity and fragility of such sites. A typology of the valleys opens reflection allows us to reflect on the procedure behind protection measures and their consequences. The study of the vallon obscur, a small spatial object that is neither a dark valley nor a dark ravine will lead us to consider the politics of environmental management on a more fitting level.

¿Son los consumidores peruanos consumidores racionales? Perú 1960-2000.

Paucar Neira, Javier Tomás 22 February 2016 (has links)
