Spectral Characteristics Of Wind Waves In The Eastern Black Sea

Wind waves are highly complex, random phenomena. One way to describe the irregular nature of the sea surface is the use of wave energy spectrum. Spectral information for wind waves in the Black Sea is extremely limited. Knowledge on spectral characteristics of wind waves would contribute to scientific, engineering and operational coastal and marine activities in the Black Sea. The aim of the present thesis is to investigate characteristics of wind wave spectra for the Eastern Black Sea. This would allow detailed understanding of the nature of the waves occurring in this enclosed basin. Long-term wave measurements obtained by directional buoys deployed offshore at Sinop, Hopa and Gelendzhik were utilized as the three sets of wave data. Records were analyzed to identify them as uni-modal or multi-modal spectra, and occurrences of spectral peaks were computed. Single peaked spectra were studied as belonging to fully arisen or developing sea states. Model parameters of JONSWAP and PM spectra were estimated for the observed spectra by using a least square error method. The records of developing seas were further analyzed to select the ones belonging to stable wind conditions. Fetch dependencies of non-dimensional spectral variables, mean parameters of JONSWAP model spectrum and the envelop of dimensionless spectra were investigated for this data sub-set.

Relationship Between Resilient Modulus And Soil Index Properties Of Unbound Materials

In the mechanistic design approach, which has already been started to utilize in several countries, the variations in material properties are better taken into account based on fundemental engineering principles. Resilient modulus is the most important material property that is used in the mechanistic design since it describes the true martial performance of unbound pavement layers under traffic loading. In this thesis, the objective is to determine the resilient modulus, used in the mechanistic design of pavement structures, for the unbound material types used in Turkey and develop linear and nonlinear prediction models to determine resilient response of unbound layers based on soil index properties, California Bearing Ratio (CBR) and Light Falling Weight Deflectometer (LFWD) test results. Application of genetic algorithm and curve shifting methodology to estimate design resilient modulus at various stress states is also investigated using the test results for finegrained soils. Resilient modulus estimation for a constant stress state based on genetic algorithm and curve shifting methodolgy is quite promising for fine-grained soils since nonlinear constitutive models do not have the capability of representing resilient responses under different conditions. Furthermore, tree-based modeling is discussed as an alternative way to develop resilient modulus prediction models. The outcome of the study will be a basis for the performance based design specifications of flexible pavements.

Resource Assessment In Aydin-pamukoren Geothermal Field

Reasons like increases in the price and demand of energy in the last years, growing interest and support in the renewable energy resources, development of social environmental consciousness, interest in using domestic resources, having legal regulations has promoted the interest in the electricity production from geothermal energy. For the effective and productive use of existing resources, important data of geothermal regions are obtained with well tests. Well tests are the studies which starts while the well is drilling, continues after the well completion during the process of operation planning with optimum performance suitable to geothermal source and presents continuation also in the operation stage as required for the dynamic structure of geothermal systems. In Aydin Kuyucak Pamuk&ouml / ren region three wells are drilled, achieved results are positive. At AP1 well only CO2 emission is present, no test is done for this well. With the tests for AP2 and AP3 wells temperature, pressure and production values are determined. By the results of these tests, it is determined that this region will be one of the important fields in the West Anatolian Region with current temperature and production rate. In this study, the geothermal energy recoverable from this region is calculated with volume method of geothermal resource assessment. Monte Carlo simulation technique is used with an add-in software program @RISK to Microsoft EXCEL. Electrical power capacity of Aydin-Pamuk&ouml / ren geothermal field is determined as 45.2 MW with 90 % probability. The most likely electrical power value was found to be 78.75 MW with a probability of 69 %. The number of wells required are 10 for a production capacity of 200 t/hr and 7 for a production capacity of 300 t/hr at each well head.

Some Generalized Multipartite Access Structures

In this work, we study some generalized multipartite access structures and linear secret sharing schemes for their realizations. Given a multipartite set of participants with m compartments (or levels) and m conditions to be satisfied by an authorized set, we firstly examine the intermediary access structures arousing from the natural case concerning that any c out of m of these conditions suffice, instead of requiring anyone or all of the m conditions simultaneously, yielding to generalizations for both the compartmented and hierarchical cases. These are realized essentially by employing a series of Lagrange interpolations and a simple frequently-used connective tool called access structure product, as well as some known constructions for existing ideal schemes. The resulting schemes are non-ideal but perfect. We also consider nested multipartite access structures, where we let a compartment to be defined within another, so that the access structure is composed of some multipartite substructures. We extend formerly employed bivariate interpolation techniques to multivariate interpolation, in order to realize such access structures. The generic scheme we consider is perfect with a high probability such as 1-O(1/q) on a finite field F_q. In particular, we propose a non-nested generalization for the conventional compartmented access structures, which depicts a stronger way of controlling the additional participants.

Analytical Solutions Of Shallow-water Wave Equations

Analytical solutions for the linear and nonlinear shallow-water wave equations are developed for evolution and runup of tsunamis &ndash / long waves&ndash / over one- and two-dimensional bathymetries. In one-dimensional case, the nonlinear equations are solved for a plane beach using the hodograph transformation with eigenfunction expansion or integral transform methods under different initial conditions, i.e., earthquake-generated waves, wind set-down relaxation, and landslide-generated waves. In two-dimensional case, the linear shallow-water wave equation is solved for a flat ocean bottom for initial waves having finite-crest length. Analytical verification of source focusing is presented. The role of focusing in unexpectedly high tsunami runup observations for the 17 July 1998 Papua New Guinea and 17 July 2006 Java Island, Indonesia tsunamis are investigated. Analytical models developed here can serve as benchmark solutions for numerical studies.

The goal of this thesis is to provide an exploratory computational model. A virtual experiment is conducted based on the datasets used in the psychological experiment by Amster et al. (1992). The computational modeling of this phenomenon is carried in the medium of ACT-R cognitive architecture.

Decomposition Of Elastic Constant Tensor Into Orthogonal Parts

All procedures in the literature for decomposing symmetric second rank (stress) tensor and symmetric fourth rank (elastic constant) tensor are elaborated and compared which have many engineering and scientific applications for anisotropic materials. The decomposition methods for symmetric second rank tensors are orthonormal tensor basis method, complex variable representation and spectral method. For symmetric fourth rank (elastic constant) tensor, there are four mainly decomposition methods namely as, orthonormal tensor basis, irreducible, harmonic decomposition and spectral. Those are applied to anisotropic materials possessing various symmetry classes which are isotropic, cubic, transversely isotropic, tetragonal, trigonal and orthorhombic. For isotropic materials, an expression for the elastic constant tensor different than the traditionally known form is given. Some misprints found in the literature are corrected. For comparison purposes, numerical examples of each decomposition process are presented for the materials possessing different symmetry classes. Some applications of these decomposition methods are given. Besides, norm and norm ratio concepts are introduced to measure and compare the anisotropy degree for various materials with the same or di&curren / erent symmetries. For these materials,norm and norm ratios are calculated. It is suggested that the norm of a tensor may be used as a criterion for comparing the overall e&curren / ect of the properties of anisotropic materials and the norm ratios may be used as a criterion to represent the anisotropy degree of the properties of materials. Finally, comparison of all methods are done in order to determine similarities and differences between them. As a result of this comparison process, it is proposed that the spectral method is a non-linear decomposition method which yields non-linear orthogonal decomposed parts. For symmetric second rank and fourth rank tensors, this case is a significant innovation in decomposition procedures in the literature.

Risk Assessement Of Petroleum Transportation Pipeline In Some Turkish Oil Fields

In this thesis, quantitative risk assessment study of several oil field transportation lines that belong to a private oil production company located in S. East Turkey has been conducted. In order to achieve this goal, first primary risk drivers were identified. Then relative ranking of all pipeline segments were conducted. Quantitative risk assessment was based on Monte Carlo simulations and a relative scoring index approach. In these simulations frequency of occurrence of pipeline failures for different oil field pipeline systems was used. Consequences of failures were also based on historical data gathered from the same oil fields. Results of corrosion rate calculations in oil and water pipeline systems were also reported. iv Most significant failures are identified as corrosion, third party damage, mechanical failure, operational failure, weather effect and sabotage. It was suggested that in order to reduce corrosion rate, thin metal sheets must be inserted in pipelines. Aluminum sheets (anodes) must be used to reduce corrosion rate in water pipeline system. The required number of anodes was calculated as 266 for BE field water pipeline (the life of anode is 1.28 years), 959 for KA water pipelines system (the life of anode is 3.2 years.) and 992 for KW water pipelines (the life of anode is approximately 2 years). Furthermore high risk pipeline segments for further assessment were identified. As a result of Monte Carlo simulations, the highest risk was observed in return lines followed by flow lines, water lines and trunk lines. The most risky field was field BE for which the risk value in trunk lines were the highest followed by flow lines. Field SA was the second risky region for flow lines and it was followed by KU region. Field KA was forth-risky. Prioritization of maintenance activities was suggested and areas of missing or incomplete data were identified.

B. doodle.com, moreganize.ch, whenisgood.net, agreeadate.com, meetomatic.com, etc.) Der Ablauf ist simpel: Ein Initiator legt eine Terminumfrage an und schickt den Link zu der Umfrage zu den potentiellen Teilnehmern. Nachdem jeder Teilnehmer der Anwendung seine Verfügbarkeiten mitgeteilt hat, kann anhand dieser Informationen ein Termin gefunden werden, der am besten passt. Maßnahmen um die Vertraulichkeit und Integrität der Daten zu schützen finden in allen bestehenden Applikationen zu wenig Beachtung. In dieser Dissertation wurde eine Web 2.0-Applikation entwickelt, welche es zulässt Terminabstimmungen zwischen mehreren Teilnehmern durchzuführen und dabei möglichst wenige Vertrauensannahmen über alle Beteiligten zu treffen. / Applications which help users to schedule events are becoming more and more important. A drawback of most existing applications is, that the preferences of all participants are revealed to the others. We propose a schemes, which are able to schedule events in a privacy-enhanced way. In addition, Dudle, a Web 2.0 application is presented which implements these schemes.
