Challenges facing school principals in the implementation of the National Curriculum Statement in Capricorn District of the Limpopo ProvinceMagongoa, Malose Charles January 2011 (has links)
Thesis (M.Ed. (Curriculum Studies)) --University of Limpopo, 2011 / The key aim of the study was to investigate whether school libraries in the rural schools of Nkangala region, Mpumalanga do implement budgeting policies due to funding constraints and poor service delivery. The library-computer centre can enhance teaching and learning. Some 188 school libraries were selected to explore their budgeting procedures and only 81 responded. The survey data collection method was used through a self-administered questionnaire which was distributed to teacher-librarians. The results of the study were analyzed according to frequencies and graphically displayed in table form. The results of the study show that almost all rural school libraries in the area have neither budgeting policies nor adequate budget to spend for effective service delivery. This shows that not only do school libraries experience budgetary constraints, but there might be other factors contributing to their poor library service delivery. It is important to empower school principals, SGBs and top managers in library budgeting procedures and for all to work cooperatively to achieve the expected educational goals.

The contingency approach to planning, organising, leading and control as the managerial tasks of the black high school principalDlamini, Lucky Busa 11 1900 (has links)
In this study the problem concerning the contingency approach to the managerial tasks of the Black high school principal
was investigated by means of literature study, interviews and observations. As a result the problems and challenges facing
the Black principal were identified.
The managerial tasks of the principal in the South Africa of the l 990's were identified and defined. It became clear that
these tasks are performed under changing situational contingencies. The contingency approach, its basis, what it entails and
its importance in the RSA of today was described. When the contingency approach was related to the managerial tasks, it
became clear that under one set of circumstances one type of leadership style is effective.
Interviews and observations were conducted in certain schools and with certain principals. Research findings revealed that
the Black high school principal should be flexible in the face of many contingencies facing him. / Educational Leadership and Management / M. Ed. (Educational Management)

The role of the principal in restoring the culture of teaching and learning : an instructional management perspectiveNemukula, Fhatuwani Joseph 11 1900 (has links)
One of the challenges facing the education system in South Africa is a lack of the culture
of teaching and learning. It is this challenge that prompted this research. The research
investigated how the principaL as an instructional leader, can restore the culture of teaching
and learning in previously disadvantaged schools. A qualitative approach was used and three schools
were selected in the Sambandou Circuit of the Northern Province.
The research results showed that there are general and management factors that
contribute to a lack of the culture of teaching and learning. Management factors include, amongst
others, lack of staff development programmes and discipline. The general factors, on the
other hand, include amongst others, poor physical conditions and infrastructure in schools.
In conclusion, the research recommended, amongst others, that principals conduct staff development
programmes and supervise the work of educators and learners / Educational Leadership and Management / M. Ed. (Education Management)

The impact of the principal's instructional leadership on the culture of teaching and learning in the schoolBudhal, Richi 11 1900 (has links)
Recently it has been noticed that there is a marked decline in the culture of teaching and
learning (COLT) in sortie of the schools in the KwaZulu Natal province. An investigation was
undertaken to check whether the instructional leadership of school principals was a contributory
factor to this decline.
A literature study and an empirical investigation was done to identify if any relationship existed
between the instructional leadership ofthe principal and COLT in schools. From the findings it
became apparent that such a relationship did exist. Schools where principals neglected such
instructional leadership roles were more susceptible to perpetuate the erosion of the culture of
teaching and learning (COLT), whereas principals who do fulfil their instructional tasks tend to
alleviate the erosion of COLT.
The educational implications of the findings are discussed and guidelines are provided to assist
school principals in attaining their roles as effective instructional leaders. / Educational Leadership and Management / M. Ed. (Educational Management)
