This paper describes the creation of a Bavarian dialect lexicon that is based on social media and that was translated by means of crowdsourcing. In the process, we first obtain a corpus of dialect samples from the social network Facebook. For the translation of the dialect words to standard German, we involve the members of the social network, which allows us to produce a crowdsourced lexicon of Bavarian dialect words.

This paper aims at describing some peculiarities of the field of linguistics that focuses problems of language and gender. Research in this field started from the feminist critique of language in the context of the Women’s Liberation Movement in the 1970s. In French, different to English or German, the notion of feminist linguistics (*linguistique féministe) does not exist. This contribution outlines the main points of feminist analysis and critique of the French language based on exemplary texts by Anne-Marie Houdebine and Marina Yaguello. Special attention is paid to language usage and especially to the denotation gender (or sex). It will be shown that feminist critique of French is less radical as, for example, feminist critique of German but had anyway effects on the French language community

The present paper is a pre-study based on the observation that some Algonquian speaking peoples in New France of the 17th century have been generalized under the name „Algonquin“ instead of being named by their microgroup ethnonym (or exonym). The corpus consists of five volumes of Thwaites’ Jesuit Relations from 1632 to 1670 with an interval of around ten years each. The study is a contribution to the anthropological and historical discussion of ethnographic and / or ethnonymical change in New France. / Cette contribution est une étude préalable basée sur l’observation que quelques peuples parlant une langue de la famille linguistique algonquienne en Nouvelle France du 17esiècle ont été regroupé sous le nom « Algonquin » au lieu d’être appelés par ses ethnonymes (ou exonymes) de microgroupe. L'AsiCa è dedicato al calabrese; questo dialetto è particolarmente interessante per la tipologia areale delle lingue romanze, in quanto sfugge alla classificazione alternativa tra una Romania occidentale e una orientale. Si tratta di un'impresa empiricamente modesta, ma metodologicamente piuttosto ambiziosa: l'atlante è stato concepito multidimensionalmente sulla scia dell'Atlas lingüístico Diatópico y Diastrático del Uruguay (ADDU) e dell’Atlante Linguistico della Sicilia (ALS). Tuttavia, per la prima volta tiene conto anche dell'emigrazione come parametro di variazione geolinguistica. Inoltre, AsiCa ha adoperato fin dall'inizio solo tecnologie web, e per la prima volta sono stati rispettati nell'atlantistica linguistica i principi FAIR. / Der Atlante sintattico della Calabria (AsiCa) (2006) ist ein vom Umfang sehr bescheidener Sprachatlas, der auch nicht annähernd mit einer seiner Insoirationsquellen, nämlich dem monumentalen Projekt des Atlante linguistico della Sicilia verglichen werden kann. Gleichwohl darf das Projekt schon deshalb Interesse beanspruchen, weil es sich wohl um das erste geolinguistische Projekt handelt, das im Rahmen der Italianistik ausschließlich auf der Grundlage von Web-Technologie durchgeführt wurde. – Mittlerweile sind gut 10 Jahre vergangen; das Internet bietet zahlreiche faszinierende Optionen, die nicht zuletzt zur Etablierung der Digital Humanities geführt haben. Es hat sich deshalb als sinnvoll erwiesen, den AsiCa von Grund auf zu überarbeiten; dieses reengineering (http://www.asica2.gwi.uni-muenchen.de/) durch Veronika Gacia und Tobias Englmeier ist nun abgeschlossen und wird im vorliegenden Beitrag vorgestellt.

Construit au cours des vingt dernières années et contenant maintenant des millions d’articles divers, Wikipédia est devenu une encyclopédie mondialementreconnue et un puits profond d’informations utilisées quotidiennement par le grand public. Alors que Wikipédia était à l'origine étiqueté par les universitaires comme non digne de confiance, introuvable et tabou, la compréhension actuelle de la plate-forme évolue. Notamment, les chercheurs et chercheuses commencent à saisir le vaste potentiel offert par Wikipédia pour un engagement étendu et légitime avec les créateurs et créatrices de connaissances à la fois au sein et au-delà de l'académie. Cet article traite de quatre initiatives de connaissances ouvertes menées par l’Electronic Textual Cultures Lab à l'Université de Victoria qui explorent l’impact de la participation à Wikipédia. / Built over the last twenty years and now containing millions of diverse articles, Wikipedia has become a globally recognized encyclopedia and a deep well of information used daily by the general public. While Wikipedia was originally labelled by academics as untrustworthy, untraceable, and taboo, present understandings of the platform are shifting. Notably, scholars are beginning to grasp the vast potential offered by Wikipedia for extended, legitimate engagement with knowledge builders both within and beyond the academy. This paper discusses four open knowledge initiatives spearheaded by The Electronic Textual Cultures Lab at the University of Victoria that explore the impact of Wikipedia participation.

L’article suivant se veut un médiateur entre la linguistique systémique fonctionnelle (LSF, SFL en anglais), très répandue dans la linguistique anglophone et la théorie linguistique d’Eugenio Coseriu, mieux connue dans les études des langues romanes. Les deux théories se basent, au moins en partie, sur les concepts saussuriens de langue et parole. Coseriu y a découvert des lacunes laissant inexpliqués certains phénomènes langagiers. A partir de ces lacunes l’article explique pourquoi Coseriu et Elisabeth Burr propagent la nécessité d’un troisième plan linguistique, celui de la norme. Continuant par la reformulation des points critiques de Burr, selon lesquelles le modèle linguistique de la LSF ne dispose d’une norme ni pourrait en disposer, on étudie comment la LSF gère les lacunes saussuriennes identifiées par Coseriu. A la base de certains concepts centraux de la LSF, dont les méta-fonctions, l’instanciation et le modèle du système linguistique, on vise à montrer que le modèle linguistique de la LSF a déjà partiellement intégré des concepts comparables à celui de la norme, mais que la LSF pourrait aussi profiter de certaines idées développées par Coseriu.

Wie lassen sich informatische und digitale Zugänge dafür nutzen? Verknüpft werden diese Fragen mit ihr wichtigen und aktuellen Themen aus Sozio-, Gender- und Korpuslinguistik, Dialektologie und Sprachgeographie sowie den digitalen Geisteswissenschaften. Although many believe that digital information is imperishable, or at least much more reliable and durable than paper information, this is nothing more than an illusion, derived perhaps from the calculation efficiency, speed and high performance of modern computers. The digital information, stored in any type of media (optical, magnetic, and electronic), is perishable, and in terms much shorter than imagined; even shorter than the degradation times of printed-paper. This article discusses the problems of digital preservation in the long term, considering both the possibilities offered by current technology and the problems of implementing and maintaining an adequate preservation policy. The structure of the article is as follows: first, we will define the problem of digital preservation. Then we will see the possible solutions at the technological level (digital preservation techniques), including the advantages of using XML-TEI markup concerning long-term preservation and document maintenance. Finally, we will focus on digital preservation as an organizational problem, including digital preservation policies. / Aunque muchos creen que la información digital es imperecedera, o al menos mucho más confiable y duradera que la información en papel, esto no es más que una ilusión, derivada quizás de la eficiencia de cálculo, la velocidad y el alto rendimiento de los ordenadores modernos. La información digital, almacenada en cualquier tipo de medio (óptico, magnético y electrónico), es perecedera, y en términos mucho más cortos de lo imaginado; incluso más cortos que los tiempos de degradación del papel impreso. Este artículo discute los problemas de la preservación digital a largo plazo, considerando tanto las posibilidades que ofrece la tecnología actual como los problemas de implementar y mantener una política de preservación adecuada. La estructura del artículo es la siguiente: primero, definiremos el problema de la preservación digital. Luego veremos las posibles soluciones a nivel tecnológico (técnicas de preservación digital), incluyendo las ventajas de utilizar el marcado XML-TEI en cuanto a preservación a largo plazo y mantenimiento de documentos. Finalmente, nos centraremos en la preservación digital como un problema organizacional, incluidas las políticas de preservación digital.
