Vývoj společenstev plazů po disturbanci v doubravách NP Podyjí / Reptile assemblages along succession gradient in oak forests of Podyji National Park

BALOUN, Jaroslav January 2018 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the effects of succession on forest clearings on reptile assemblages in Podyjí National Park. The topic and results presented here follow up my bachelor thesis evaluating habitat preference of reptiles in Podyjí National Park and their assemblages on experimental clearings in the core zone of NP Podyjí. The reptile monitoring was conducted on the clearings and nearby control habitats using a method of artifical shelters and method of transect walks. Abundance of reptile species on clearings, and effect of gradual succession on the clearings on individual reptile species was studied and evaluated. While the creation of clearings clearly benefited most termophilous reptile species, including e.g. the Green lizard (Lacerta viridis) and the Aesculapian snake (Zamenis longissimus), the effect of succession is more difficult to assess owing to rather high variation among years. Only the L. viridis significantly derceased with the course of succession, while the Slow worm (Anguis fragilis) benefited from it.

Konflikt mezi ochranou biodiverzity a socioekonomickým rozvojem v Národním parku Šumava / Conflict within biodiversity and socioeconomical development in National parks - case study from the National park Bohemian Forest

KULÍŠEK, Pavel January 2018 (has links)
This thesis deals with the conflicts between nature conservation and the socioeconomic situation of municipalities in the model territory of Bohemian Forest National Park. This territory is made up of six municipalities that have their entire cadastral territory in the Bohemian Forest National Park. These are the municipalities of Prášily, Srní, Modrava, Horská Kvilda, Kvilda and Stožec. A questionnaire survey was carried out to solve this topic, a media analysis was carried out and a SWOT analysis of the opponents and supporters of nature conservation was made. The results showed that the inhabitants of Bohemian Forest NP are not socio-economically disadvantaged compared to the inhabitants of municipalities that do not belong in the national park. The inhabitants of the area are social and nature-related. Residents of the park also have good knowledge of nature conservation and appreciate it. The most important topics in the media analysis were the construction on the territory of the municipalities, the legislative changes and the issues of the bark beetle. Most of the resources come from media of national importance and the rest are classified as regional. The SWOT analysis shows that nature conservationists should focus more on passing on the results of expert studies towards the public. Opponents of nature conservation have interests in the Bohemian Forest region. Based on the results of the work, measures were put in place to alleviate conflicts between nature conservation and the socio-economic development of municipalities.

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 7913479 bytes, checksum: 21446ebd3faf52f23d1b4002918b70d2 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-04-30 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This study aims to evaluate the quality of vicinity parks and neighborhood parks by obtaining qualitative indices, enabling diagnostics that can support planning activities. Assuming that the terms of vicinity parks and neighborhood parks belongs to the system of free and green areas within the urban structure and the lack of a qualitative evaluation difficults research and analysis of such spaces, we sought to define the indicators of quality required for the composition of technical evaluation methodology. Particularized to the ecological functions, urbanistic, aesthetic, social and of leisure, the choice of qualitative attributes in theoretical references of various authors that regards the qualitative importance of cited elements was based on the evaluation methodology, as well as in the participation of specialists in the urban themes, which helped in the development and definition by completing a questionnaire where they could evaluate the elements that are considered essential in the composition of the vicinity and neighborhood parks. The object of study are the vicinity parks and neighborhood parks in view of its relative standardization or programmatic similarity. Thus, will be presented as indices of quality, the results obtained by applying this methodology. The landscape unit chosen for application of the methodology were the neighborhoods Torre and Madalena, in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, at 2011. The survey sample was first defined by the relationship that each Recife's political-administrative region (PAR) has with the number of parks in total area (m²). Being the PAR 04 the political-administrative region that has the highest concentration of parks in square meters, were selected by raffle, two neighborhoods located in this PAR. The definition of the basic units of study was considered from the function as recreation and social interaction support and the following criteria: location and dimensions, resulting in the selection of a vicinity park at Madalena's neighborhood and a neighborhood park at Torre. Thus, the adoption of this methodology for evaluate the quality of vicinity parks and neighborhood parks, would test the degree of universality and appropriateness of the parameters of the assessments. The results showed that the quality levels obtained by applying the methodology of technical qualitative evaluation were consistent with the perception of quality assigned by the community. It was found that the indicators system of the quality index of vicinity park and quality index of neighborhood park showed to be adequate and consistent for measuring the qualitative aspects, particularized to the ecological functions, urbanistic, aesthetic, social and of leisure, thus giving valid subsidies for urban and environmental planning.

Habitat suitability and behaviour of springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis) at Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa

Reid, Caroline January 2005 (has links)
Habitat selection may be considered a behavioural consequence of an individual actively selecting where it lives or passively persisting in a certain habitat. There are a variety of approaches to assessing habitat selection, including relating densities to predefined habitats and the characteristics of these habitats, measuring the behaviour of animals within predefined habitats in order to assess the relative benefits to the animal and comparing these between habitats, and using optimality theory to allow the animal to provide measures of its preference for particular habitats or patches. Each approach provides different perspectives on an animal’s choice and use of habitat, with some approaches working more effectively with certain species or habitats than others. There have, however, been no attempts to apply all these approaches to a single species at a single site. The objective of this study was therefore to apply the three above-mentioned approaches to assess habitat use and quality to a single species, the springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis) at the Augrabies Falls National Park (AFNP), on the northern bank of the Orange River, in order to provide the basis for further work on comparing and integrating these approaches. The relative abundance of springbok in Augrabies Falls National park was used to develop a habitat suitability model for the park, and thus determine the habitat variables that influenced habitat suitability. Isodar analysis revealed information on the mechanisms underlying habitat preference. Behavioural models were developed to improve our understanding of how springbok behaviour changes in relation to the habitat, and incorporated the variables identified in the habitat suitability model. The different spatial and temporal scales influencing springbok habitat selection were determined using optimal foraging theory and giving-up densities. Springbok preferred open habitats providing high food quality. Springbok behaviour was related to the foraging and predation risk characteristics of the habitat, and springbok varied their temporal and spatial utilisation so as to minimise their risk of predation and maximise their food intake. The habitat suitability model, behaviour models and giving-up densities were compared for ease of use and applicability. Using giving-up densities to reveal habitat suitability had greater applicability and was both efficient and objective.
