application, the described full-duplex data link is suitable as a backup command and control link for
UAV’s, and for sensor control & data exfiltration.
The IRIDIUM satellite system was selected to provide the communications link and because of its
global coverage and requisite data throughputs.
A Risk Reduction activity ensued to quantify IRIDIUM performance. Hardware and software was
developed to demonstrate the feasibility of using IRIDIUM in a flight safety scenario.

Expanded uses beyond flight safety, such as UAV Air Traffic Control, are considered also. This system satisfies the operational requirement for a Hazard Control Communication Channel as well as providing a reverse communications channel to provide Safety Critical Information to the Range Safety Officer (RSO). Upon examining 60 communications candidates, IRIDIUM accessed through a Data Distribution Network (DDN), with ARINC being a potential service provider, is recommended.

Departing from an understanding of today’s liberal capitalist society as deeply concerned with individual growth through higher education, this paper aims to explain the well documented fact that working class students are underrepresented within the higher levels of the Swedish educational system. The study assumes that the prevailing recruitment pattern is created by informal societal structures influencing the individual decisions of would-be students. It then continues to explore the decision-making processes leading a number of students from working class backgrounds into higher education, as well as their experiences of navigating this new environment, in order to better understand the obstacles that this group need to overcome in order to enter the academic area. This is done through an analysis of semi- structured interviews, informed by the career choice theory of Careership. The reading shows that these student’s choice to enter higher education largely has been a pragmatic-rational one, driven more by the need to adapt to circumstances like a changing job market than social expectations to continue their education. The interviewed students often describe the process of entering this new arena as filled with feelings of inferiority and a sense of not belonging that seems to persist even after they acquire additional cultural capital in the form of knowledge and acceptable behaviors. The results of this study implies that a long-term approach towards reversing recruitment bias within higher education must start with the development of a full understanding of these and other challenges facing underrepresented groups.

A 915 MHz wireless IR image transfer system, comprised of an IR-160 Thermal Camera and MDS iNet 900 transceivers, was assessed for image transfer capabilities in different environments. Image transfer through natural and artificial obstructions, the capability of transferring images under urban environments, and an exploration of interference issues associated with RF communication links were investigated in detail. Concrete, wood, various construction materials, and building walls were examined to assess indoor propagation capabilities. Data transmission through random trees, buildings, foliage under various atmospheric conditions is also evaluated for outdoor system capabilities. A maximum free space range for acceptable IR image transferring is determined as 23 miles for line of sight (LOS). Non line of sight (NLOS) urban environment measurements revealed that urban path loss (15-60 dBm) is highly dependent on antenna orientation and obstruction geometry rather than the T-R separation distance.

The correlation of polis and citizen is most apparent in philosophy of Plato. With an emphasis on his privilegy of spoken word over written one, he shows possible sources of philosophical hermeneutics. By understanding the situation, which leads to the decline of the reciprocal relationship between human and world, author would like to express that in Platos way of thinking are still unreflected possibilities of solution for the present day. Intention of this work is to contribute - by sketching and explication of the principles of political thinking - to the discussion - and not only to that of the political philosophy and political science.

Nowadays, the near-horizon regions of black holes have enjoyed great attention thanks to their role in the popular AdS/CFT correspondence and their specific geometry suitable for formulations of uniqueness theorems in higher dimensions. A strictly general-relativistic point of view reveals also many interesting phenomena taking place near black-hole horizons. Our aim was to investigate how horizon multiplicity affects near-horizon geometry, geodesical distance, radial motion of photons and massive, charged particles, and also the possibility of collision processes leading to unbound collision energies near the horizon. We chose the Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter metric, which, on the one hand, is simple thanks to being static and spherically symmetric but which, on the other hand, is rich enough to enable the existence of up to a doubly degenerate ultra-extreme horizon. After discussing the physical feasibility of the near-horizon limit, we applied it to single, double, and triple horizons, their near-horizon geometries, and local collision processes. We found continuous coordinate systems covering all types of horizons and analytic solutions for motion of radial photons and special or critical, massive, charged particles in their vicinity. In 2009 Bañados, Silk and West described the possibility of principally unbounded collision energies in the centre-of-mass frame for the particle collisions in the vicinity of black holes. Their work attracted a big response. This thesis aims to summarise the results of a number of the articles about the topic and puts these results into a new, broader context. It also presents some generalisations of the existing results, especially for models of magnetised black holes. The main subject of interest is the question, whether the unbounded collision energies can be achieved in a single-scattering or multiple-scattering process which was first formulated by Grib, Pavlov and Zaslavskii. Variety of methods is summarised. A considerable attention is paid to the limiting near-horizon description, which is further developed in order to derive new links and relations among known results, particularly between the purely theoretical work dealing with the geometry of degenerate horizons and their vicinity and more astrophysical articles about magnetic fluxes. Horizon as a line that can contain a mystery. Without any futilities, just because it goes from one point to another. It doesn`t matter what scale we find it in. The Possible Borderline will consist mostly from photographs, but also from drawings and watercolours. Another part will be a subtle wire installation dealing with the horizon topic in a metaconcrete level – at someone`s home. The entire artwork should create a gentle story, a personal, imaginary horizon.
