FundaÃÃo de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Cearà / CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeiÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientÃfico e TecnolÃgico / nÃo hà / Os estudos sobre a polidez lingÃÃstica buscam investigar o comportamento verbal adotado pelos indivÃduos com a finalidade de evitar ou reduzir possÃveis conflitos em suas interaÃÃes. Considerando que a maioria das pesquisas sobre o tema restringem-se Ãs interaÃÃes face a face e que, atualmente, muitas relaÃÃes sociais se estabelecem em ambientes virtuais de interaÃÃo, propomos analisar de que forma os participantes de uma sala de bate-papo empregam as estratÃgias e regras pragmÃticas de polidez lingÃÃstica em suas interaÃÃes e com que finalidade eles as utilizam. Para tanto, selecionamos 23 conversas realizadas no ambiente pÃblico de uma sala de bate-papo direcionada para pessoas com mais de 50 anos, no perÃodo de dezembro de 2006 à maio de 2007. A anÃlise foi constituÃda a partir da congregaÃÃo dos modelos de anÃlise da polidez lingÃÃstica propostos por Brown e Levinson (1987) e Leech (1983; 2005). Os resultados demonstram que, apesar do anonimato, os participantes da sala de bate-papo constroem e preservam as identidades construÃdas na sala, e nela estabelecem vÃnculos interacionais, demonstrando uma intimidade, marcada por meio: a) do tom descontraÃdo das conversas; b) do uso de marcadores de identidade e grupo; c) da manifestaÃÃo de simpatia e afeto; e d) da preocupaÃÃo em reduzir o peso e associaÃÃo com um ato ameaÃador de face (FTA). A partir destes resultados, podemos concluir que o envolvimento, a intimidade e o conhecimento entre um participante e outro, dentro e fora do ambiente virtual, sÃo fatores que interferem na escolha das estratÃgias e regras pragmÃticas de polidez lingÃÃstica. / Studies on Linguistic Politeness urge to investigate the verbal behavior adopted by the individuals whose goal itâs to avoid or reduce possible conflicts in their interactions. Assuming that the majority of research about the theme is restricted as face-to-face interactions, and further more, nowadays, many social relationships are established on interactional virtual environments. We propose to analyze in which way the partakers in a chat room use strategies and pragmatic constraints of linguistic politeness on their interactions and under which purpose they are used. Therefore were selected 23 chats that took place in a public environment of a chat room directed to people over 50 from December (2006) to May (2007).The analyze was constituted by the correlation of analyzesâ models of linguistic politeness presented by Brown and Levinson (1987) and Leech (1983; 2005). The results show that, in spite of the anonymity, the partakers of the chat room build and preserve the identities assembled in the chat room, and in the chat room they establish interactional ties, presenting an intimacy distinguished by: a) the jokey tone of the conversations; b) the use of identity and in-group markers; c) the manifest of sympathy and affection; and d) the concern to reduce the weight and the association to face threaten act (FTA).From these results, we can conclude that the involvement, the intimacy, and the knowledge among the partakers, in and out of virtual environment, are factors that interfere the choice of strategies and pragmatic constraints of linguistic politeness
