Young Swedish Athletes' perceived Social Support and Well-being in Football Academies / Unga svenska fotbollspelares upplevda sociala stöd och välmående inomfotbolls akademier.

Hagen, Kjetil January 2011 (has links)
Abstract The objectives of the study were to examine: (I) if different categories of social support (family, friends and school) can predict well-being among Swedish male football academy players. Moreover, the purpose is to (II) compare if two age groups of male academy players (11-14 years) and (15-19 years) differ in perceived social support (e.g. family, friends and school) and well-being. The participants in the study were 443 male football academy players (M = 14.17) from four different elite clubs. The questionnaire that was used in this study consists of a modified extended-form health survey collected from FHI (Public Health Institute) developed to examine adolescents’ subjective well-being. The survey is based on SDQ (Goodman, 1997), PSP-scale (Hagquist, 2008) (Swedish questionnaire developed to measure psychosomatic issues among children) and Kidscreen (Ravens-Sieberer et. al., 2005). The result showed that different categories of social support (e.g. family, friends and school) could predict 20.4% of the total well-being among Swedish academy players. Additionally, it was found that younger academy players (11-14 years) experience a higher level of well- being and more social support in terms of friends and school in relation to older academy players (15-19 years). The results are discussed in relation to theoretical frameworks and previous research.

La sculpture russe, du naturalisme à l'art nouveau : une approche géopolitique des pratiques artistiques / Russian sculpture, from Naturalism to Art Nouveau : geopolitical approach of artistic practices / Русская скульптура, от Натурализма до Ар Нуво : геополитический аспект художественных практик

Laurent, Nicolas 23 November 2018 (has links)
The following work is to be considered from a global point of view, as shown in this topic: Russian sculpture from naturalism to Art nouveau: a geopolitical analysis of artistic practices. The basis of this study is that of the Russian sculptors who have somehow traveled or stayed abroad between 1870 and 1914. By putting together the new ‘macro art history’ approaches supported by the statistics of a quantitative method of art history with the emergence of a rather multi-lateral question than a bi-lateral one which has the power to fully acknowledge the global evolution of an art and its participants, this study focuses on the relations maintained by the artists from one country with other countries in general. From a foreign perspective, this study aims at redefining the European geography of art while connecting various artistic centers together. A distinction is therefore made from a global approach between the most important art-related European centers of the time; namely Paris, which progressively replaced Rome over the century as a nationally-scaled point of interest, as well as Munich and Berlin, which challenged their number one standing in central Europe. Unlike its German and Italian competitors, Paris managed to establish its authority by gathering sculptors. Global migration consequently influenced the evolution of art in Russia, especially when sculptors went back after staying abroad. Thereby, contributions from Western sculptures played an essential role in the various artistic evolutions that affected Russia from the 1870’s to the Silver Age.

Change Of Urban Image With Demands Of Contemporary Tourism: The Case Of Batumi

Terakye Unsal, Burcu 01 November 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The cities are being presented as commodities with their constructed images. Their names are being transformed to brand names, of entertainment, culture etc. Tourism industry is the main actor of this process. In my study on the relationship between tourism industry and its effects on the built environment of the city, the present study focuses on Batumi, a resort city of Georgia. A massive construction activity is being conducted in the city aiming to create tourist attractions, which include the creation of international chain hotels, beautification of public spaces and regeneration of the beach line. The city of Batumi, which has a long history as a port city and also as a resort mainly attracting tourists from the neighboring countries to Georgia, is undergoing a rapid change that transforms the city into a space of consumption. This change, including creation of tourist enclaves, commodification of heritage, gentrification and refashioning the city to create particular ways of seeing reflects the impact of consumption culture on tourism.

Defining Conservation Principles For The Brewery Of Ataturk Forest Farm

Surmelihindi, Ozan 01 February 2013 (has links) (PDF)
The subject of the conservation and preservation of industrial heritage was started to be handled starting from the middle of 20th Century in Europe. As in Turkey, industrial heritage concept is a subject which is in agenda in last years. Awareness about the subject increased with the help of social movements starting especially with the demolition of Ankara Maltepe Gas and Electric Factory. The Brewery of Ataturk Forest Farm should also be handled not to share the same fate with this example which was witnessed recently. In the years when Ataturk Forest Farm was founded, it was realized that industry is important for the economic development. In this sense, First Five Year Industry Plan, which was prepared with the order of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk to accelerate industrialization, was taken into action in 1934 and many industrial complexes were founded according to this plan. The Brewery of Atat&uuml / rk Forest Farm is one of the reflections of First Five Year Industry Plan in Ankara. Today, the Brewery of Atat&uuml / rk Forest Farm is out of use, ill conditioned and faced with the danger of destruction. Therefore, the brewery of Atat&uuml / rk Forest Farm, which is one of the most significant examples of the industrial buildings of the Early Republican Period and located on a debated context like Atat&uuml / rk Forest Farm, should be conserved and handed down the next generations.

Developing A Knowledge Taxonomy For Business Development In Construction Companies: A Case Of Turkish Construction Industry

Haghgooie, Amin 01 December 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The term business as an economical activity brings along many issues related to / managerial activities, competition, marketing, finance, risk, etc. which all of them include a high level of decision making that need to be supported by trust able knowledge. Due to the unique specifications of the construction industry and the high sensitivity regarding the decisions made accompanied with the business, knowledge and knowledge management have been considered essential for the industry. As a fundamental step of a well structured knowledge management system, classification of the knowledge plays an important role in organizing and representing a domain. Among the many aspects of decision making, decisions regarding the business development of a company play a crucial role in the survival and growth of an available business. However up to now, the literature has a shortage on a comprehensive work which attempts to classify the knowledge in this specific domain of the construction industry. In an effort to cover this gap in the literature, this study focuses on developing a knowledge taxonomy for business development management in a construction company based on semi-structured interviews with Turkish construction professionals. The taxonomy designed by referring to expert opinion is comprised of five major concepts: Business environment, Clients, Partners, Related parties, and own Company. The presented taxonomy is tested on real cases and believed to be used for representing, storing, sharing, retrieving and in general, managing knowledge related to business development management of a construction organizations for decision supporting purposes. More over in order to demonstrate how the presented taxonomy can be used in a company a knowledge management tool has been designed.

Autopilot And Guidance Algorithms For Infrared Guided Missiles

Kilic, Kayhan Caglar 01 December 2006 (has links) (PDF)
Guided missiles are among the most effective threats against air platforms. Aircraft and helicopter losses in the last decades were mostly due to guided missiles, 70% of which were infrared guided missiles. Today, there are as many as 500,000 shoulder-fired missiles in military arsenals around the world, whose guidance algorithms enable them to track the desired trajectories very precisely. In this thesis, main focus is on defining infrared missile guidance and control algorithms in order to study on various target-missile scenarios for the effectiveness of these algorithms. First, a mathematical model of a generic missile is given. Then the flight control system of the missile is created by using LQR and PID controllers. Different kinds of PNG algorithms applied to an infrared missile are presented. The seeker part of the infrared missile is also discussed. The effectiveness of guidance algorithms are studied based on different target &ndash / missile scenarios and the responses of them to IR countermeasures are also observed. This study shows that different guidance algorithms can be used for different scenarios. If suitable algorithms are combined and suitable constants are applied, the guided missile can track the target very precisely. In addition, the seeker part has to be improved with tracking algorithms in order to recognize IR-countermeasures and not to follow them.

Production And Characterization Of Polypropylene/organoclay Nanocomposites

Yayla, Saniye 01 February 2005 (has links) (PDF)
Polypropylene, PP, based nanocomposites were produced via melt blending method by using twin-screw extrusion in this study. The effects of organoclay type, compatibilizer type, and mixing order of components on the morphology, thermal, mechanical and flow properties of ternary nanocomposites were investigated. Terpolymer of ethylene/butyl acrylate/maleic anhydride, ethylene/methyl acrylate/glycidyl methacrylate, and copolymer of ethylene/glycidyl methacrylate elastomers were used as compatibilizer, whereas Cloisite&reg / 30B, Cloisite&reg / 15A, and Cloisite&reg / 25A were used as organoclay. iv In order to determine the optimum amount of compatibilizer, PP/compatibilizer blends were produced with different compositions. The content of compatibilizer was determined as 5 wt % based on the mechanical tests. Then, ternary nanocomposites were prepared with 5 wt % compatibilizer and 2 wt % organoclay contents. In addition, neat PP and PP/organoclay composites were prepared in order to make comparison. After that, the samples were characterized. According to the XRD analysis, the highest increase in the interlayer spacings of organoclays were observed in the PP/E-MA-GMA/Cloisite&reg / 15A (23%) and PP/E-MA-GMA/ Cloisite&reg / 25A (88.3%) ternary systems. SEM micrograms revealed that compatibilizer E-MA-GMA is the most compatible elastomer with PP. Thus, it was decided to investigate the effect of mixing order on the properties of these nanocomposites with E-MA-GMA. DSC analysis showed that the melting behavior of the nanocomposites does not change significantly with the presence of organoclay and compatibilizer. In addition, compatibilizers and organoclays have no significant nucleation activity in PP. The systems PP/E-MA-GMA/Cloisite&reg / 15A and PP/E-MA-GMA/Cloisite&reg / 25A have the highest improvements according to the results of mechanical tests. The results of mechanical tests showed that the mixing sequence (PEC), in which PP, organoclay and compatibilizer were compounded simultaneously in the first extrusion run, is the best sequence.

Sustainable Transport In City-regions: The Case Of Izmir City Region

Nal, Seda 01 July 2008 (has links) (PDF)
ABSTRACT SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT IN CITY-REGIONS: THE CASE OF IZMIR CITY REGION Nal, Seda M.S., Department of City and Regional Planning, Regional Planning Supervisor : Assist. Prof. Dr. Ela Babalik Sutcliffe July 2008, 385 pages While the vast literature on sustainable transport emphasizes certain urban development patterns as those that should be encouraged in urban planning, it is a fact that there is an increasing tendency in many urban areas in the world towards becoming a city-region. However, whether these city-region development patterns can help attain a more sustainable urban growth and transport system is a relatively less studied area in the field of sustainable transport. In general terms, the study aims to bring together these two important fields of research in the planning literature: sustainable transport and city-regions, with a view to analyze whether they can co-exist, whether their policies comply with, and complement each other, eventually whether it is possible to attain transport sustainability in city-regions. Regarding this aim, three aspects are identified as &amp / #8216 / threats&amp / #8217 / for the attainment of sustainable transport and land-use development in city-regions: 1.Increase in need to travel and car dependency due to increase in interactions and longer distances in city-regions, 2. Economic objectives for city-regions conflicting with objectives of sustainable transport, and 3. Difficulty in ensuring policy coordination for an integrated approach to sustainability due to fragmentation of governments. Two most effective ways of achieving sustainable transport, land-use planning policies and policies for improving public transport and non-motorized transport, are chosen as the main policy approaches to be analyzed. Through the analysis of planning experience in a selected case study area, the Izmir City Region, the study intends to find out whether these issues are real threats for attaining sustainable transport in city regions and whether they can be overcome.

Density As A Transformative Power Of Urbanization: Milletvekili Lojmanlari / Park Oran Konutlari

Kale, Evrim Ozlem 01 August 2008 (has links) (PDF)
The economic and political restructuring of the 1980s whose main aim was to integrate Turkey to the global economic network via constructing &ldquo / global cities&rdquo / initiated not only new architectural programs such as grand shopping malls, office towers, world trade centers, five-star hotels but also new housing patterns all of which played an important role in shaping the urban character. As a result of these new architectural programs Ankara&rsquo / s urban landscape has been reterritorialized according to the logic of capital. The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of the emerging residential programs on Ankara&rsquo / s urban transformation since 2000. Specifically, this research critically concentrates on the process of transformation of a low rise-low density residential area into a high rise-high density residence through construction, deconstruction, and reconstruction of the same site initiating a &ldquo / re-scaled&rdquo / urban landscape. With this respect, this study endeavours to deal with the case of destructing the TBMM Milletvekili Lojmanlari for constructing Park Oran Konutlari.
