Discussion document : nationalisationAfrican National Congress, Department of Economic Policy January 1900 (has links)
Nationalisation involves putting any section of the economy under the control and ownership of a government. Nationalisation is not new to South Africa. The governments of the past and especially the Nationalist Party have nationalised a number of industries in the South African economy. Today almost 54% of the productive assets in the country are in the hands of the government. Transport, electricity, post office, are a few examples. Nationalisation in the past has been used to benefit only the whites, by providing them with jobs and services.

Workshop package on discussion document on economic policy / ANC workshop package on discussion document on economic policyANC Department of Economic Policy January 1900 (has links)
This package was prepared by the ANC Department of Economic Policy to assist branches to discuss the discussion document on economic policy. It serves as a guide to discussion and is not a replacement for the document. The package contains ideas for inputs, illustrations and guide questions for discussions. The illustrations can be made into WALL CHARTS or TRANSPARENCIES and used with an overhead projector. We suggest that a group of people (the political education committee) come together to plan a workshop for branch members. Read both the package and the discussion document before planning. The ANC is in the process of setting up ANC Economic Associations in each region. If you need help, contact members of the Association through the regional office.

Discussion document on economic policyDepartment of Economic Policy 20 September 1990 (has links)
This document has been prepared for debate within the ranks of the ANC. It does not represent an agreed policy, but rather seeks to contribute to a democratic process of formulating our movement's economic policy. The movement believes that economic policy should address itself to the demands and needs of the majority of the people, and active discussion and debate is essential if they are to have a more prominent place. The ANC has long recognised the necessity for political liberation and constitutional changes to be accompanied by socioeconomic transformation. The Freedom Charter proclaimed the necessity for the people to share in the countries wealth, for the land to be distributed to those who work it, for there to housing, security and comfort for all, and for the doors of learning and culture to opened. The constitutional guidelines also recognised the need for economic restructuring to be part of the process of constitutional change. / "This document has been prepared for debate within the ranks of the ANC". -- Introduction / "DEP workshop, Harare, 20-23 September 1990."

South Africa's growth, employment and redistribution strategy in the context of structural adjustment programmes in the SouthLehloesa, Thembinkosi L January 2000 (has links)
This study is a contribution to the ongoing debate concerning the future of South Africa’s macro-economic policy known as the Growth, Employment and Redistribution (GEAR) strategy. The study attempts to draw parallels between the GEAR macro-economic policy framework and structural adjustment programmes in the South. By making use of this comparison, the study argues that the outcome of the GEAR will be no different from structural adjustment programmes in that it will fail to reduce poverty and cause government to meet the basic needs of the people. These conclusions are drawn from the fact that the GEAR policy is premised on the faith that the market is capable of redistributing income and wealth, and providing people with their basic needs.

A review of the actuaries' capitalisation rate from an economic perspectiveTurner, Jason January 2006 (has links)
The purpose of this paper was to evaluate if the macroeconomic change that has occurred in the South African economy since the 1980s has been significant enough to justify a re-examination of the actuaries’ capitalisation rate, due to its formulation processes dependence on the macroeconomic situation. The need for the reexamination arises from the use of the capitalisation in the calculation of lump sum awards where even a small change in the rate can have a significant impact on the value of the final award. In order to address the issue an examination of how Keynesian expectations are formulated and an examination of the Government’s macroeconomic policy was conducted to provide the foundation. On this foundation, a trend analysis of the major groups of financial instruments, as well as the current outlooks for the South African economy, was conducted to determine if there was any indication of a significant change in the macroeconomic conditions. The results of the analysis provided a compelling case for the urgent need for the actuaries’ capitalisation rate to be recalculated to account for the changed economic situation.

Preferential procurement in local government : a case study in the city of Tshwane metropolitan areaGama Simoes Gomes, Nadir Alexandra 08 September 2005 (has links)
It has been recognized in several countries that governments need to intervene in order to help socially and economically disadvantaged individuals in the society to compete in the economy with those who have gained historical advantage. Governments have changed legislation in favour of the disadvantaged, so that to ensure that they participate in the economy in a more fairly manner and the standards of living of their communities are improved. Local Government at the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality has been given a greater responsibility in relation to Local Economic Development. A major challenge is encountered given that the new areas, which were, integrated recently, lack infrastructure and are rural in nature. Preferential procurement has been identified as a tool of socio-economic development in South Africa. However, a policy needs to be done, properly implemented, and monitored so that it can achieve the desired results. / Dissertation (MCom (Business Management))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Business Management / unrestricted

The role of local industrial parks in stimulating and supporting the growth and development of small, medium and micro enterprises in the Western Cape ProvinceWyeth, Charles Anthony 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MBA)--Stellenbosch University, 2000. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Over the past few years considerable debate has taken place regarding the role of
Local lndustrial Parks (LIPs) in stimulating the growth and development of Small,
Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) in South Africa.
LIPs are normally established to achieve specific development objectives, namely, job
creation, sector specific support, entrepreneurship/small business promotion and the
provision of affordable workspace. Through interviews with centre managersof each of
the LIPs located in the Western Cape Province, and the collection of other relevant
information, this document appraises the performance of UPs against those criteria.
The author further postulates that the term UP has evolved from a variety of other
"period-names" for facilities that provide accommodation/business premises to
SMMEs, and has become the current term for defining such facilities.
Given the high demand for appropriately priced business premises for SMMEs, and the
decision by the Cape Metropolitan Council to actively promote the establishment of
UPs as a core activity in its local economic development strategy, this document
recommends what services should be provided by UPs to ensure that the services
offered represent value for money, and achieve the desired goals of an UP programme.
Besighede (KMMB) in Suid Afrika speel.
PIP's word normaalweg ontwikkel om spesifieke mikpunte te behaal, naamlik
werksskepping, sektor-spesifieke ondersteuning, entrepreneurship/kleinbesigheids
