The impacts of farm shops on enhancing community well-being in rural areas (Kalmar Case Study)

Soroushnia, Shiva January 2022 (has links)
To attract visitors to stay and enjoy the rural landscapes and reduce out-migration to cities, there is a need to enhance practices and policies to boost rural community well-being. Community well-being is about residents' feeling of satisfaction with their local place with considering the social and physical environment, the services, and facilities regarding place attachment (Forjaz et al., 2011; McCrea et al., 2015). In this study, the extent to which farm shops as agriculture diversification strategies impact the community well-being in rural areas is investigated. Kalmar Län, the southern county in Sweden, is the chosen case study to learn more about the subject. For this research, eight interviews were conducted with farmers, and data were analyzed with thematic analysis.  Findings of this study indicate that farm shop owners' motivation to start and continue their activities is not limited to financial incentives, and there are other influential factors that encourage farmers to start and continue their farm shop businesses. Moreover, Farmers in Kalmar County are working as a network and feel connected with one other in varied ways. Furthermore, the direct impacts of farm shops on health and nature were expressed by farmers as well. According to the farmers, these shops impact society by providing spaces for social interaction, which is a critical performance of farm shops. And all these factors increase the feeling of attachment to the place for both farmers and visitors and motivate visitors to visit farm shops more often and encourage farmers to continue their activities in the rural area, and consequently enhance the well-being of community in the rural regions.

An assessment of the usefulness of spatial agricultural land resource digital data for agritourism and ecotourism

Mugadza, Precious 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MScAgric (Agricultural Economics))—University of Stellenbosch, 2005. / The study broadly assesses the usefulness of available digital spatial land resource data as a source for agritourism and ecotourism information by comparing the inventory of available spatial data sets for South Africa and the SADC region, with the needs for spatial data as derived from a literature study of travel motivations and demand determinants. Spatial land resource data have been collected, processed and stored for agricultural planning purposes, like land suitability assessment, agricultural production and infrastructural planning. Given a) the growth in agritourism and ecotourism, b) the more detailed information required by tourists to aid them during decision making processes like destination selection and c) the progress in information technology rendering access of information via the internet easier; the question arose whether the available land resource digital data can be processed to provide relevant tourism information on internet websites. Four tasks had to be done, namely: a) identifying tourists’ needs by means of a literature study on travel motivations and demand determinants; b) identifying the land resource data sets that could be processed into information to meet these identified needs; c) determining the accessibility of spatial information on internet tourism websites to potential agritourists and ecotourists, and d) exploring opportunities for adding value by looking at what information existing websites are offering in comparison with what can be obtained from repackaging the land resource data. Common ground was found between the spatial tourist information needs and the available spatial land resource data. This, coupled with the ability of combining meteorological and other humanmade environmental data in GIS modelling, suggests that repackaging land resource data seems to have the potential to offer useful tourism information in correspondence with confirmed tourist information needs.

Agricultura familiar e turismo: estudo de reserva extrativista e território de população tradicional remanescente de quilombo / Family farming and tourismo: study of extractive reserve and traditional territory of remaining population of Quilombo

Schnitman, Tarita 10 October 2014 (has links)
Efetivamente, a agricultura familiar desempenha papel importante no espaço agrário. / This thesis conveys an investigation about the role of tourism in family farming. Given the problems of rural exodus, social inequalities and limited alternative sources of income for rural Brazilian communities, the study of the effects of tourism is pertinent to reflect on the ability to provide relevant and viable solutions for family farmers. Thus, the objective here is to characterize and identify socio-cultural and environmental elements that may constitute a reference for studies of tourism and its contribution to family farming. For this purpose, we performed a case study in the Mandira traditional population of remanescent of quilombo and Mandira Extractive Reserve, Brazil. The thesis contains reflections on rurality, family farming and tourism. Effectively, family farming plays an important role in the agricultural space. The discussion of environmental problems on the planet, the emergence of the term sustainability, the concept of eco-development transforms the reflection on family farms and traditional communities. In this context, the theoretical approach on multifunctionality of family farming is a useful medium for analysing the environmental balance in the rural areas. Through the lens of multifunctionality, there is a deep relationship between ecology, agriculture and tourism. Thus, the research traverses the debate concerning tourism and the family farming. In terms of empirical study, we analyze multifunctionality in Mandira community as a tool for assessing local touristic activity. The investigation deals mainly with tourism infrastructure in the community, tours, hospitality, reservations, marketing practices, tourist flow and the populatoion\'s participation in the tourism activity. With these elements, we analyze to what extent the local tourism anchors in the local culture, favoring its manifestations and reinvigorating their traditions. The multifunctionality of agriculture is taken for an analysis of tourism. It considers the effects of this activity for the maintenance of the social and cultural fabric, the promotion of food security, socioeconomic reproduction of families and the preservation of natural resources and Landscape. Thus, designing na original model for evaluating community tourism or agritourism in Brazil.

Perspectiv for the development of enotourism in Kasnodar region

Т., Povarova, D. T. January 2021 (has links)
According to the strategy of social and economic development of the Krasnodar Territory until 2030, the Krasnodar Territory is the leader and "locomotive" of the development of the South Pole of Russia's growth and demonstrates a very high level of competitiveness. According to the international organization of viticulture and winemaking, Russia ranks 7th in the wine consumption rating, and 12th in terms of production. The Krasnodar Territory region is the leader in terms of production of grape wines in the Russian Federation, namely: 48% of the total volume of wine production in the country ... Today, the share of tourism services in the structure of revenue of wine farms in the region reaches 15-20% and more. In 2019, the agritourism facilities of the Krasnodar Territory received over 600 thousand people, which is 150 thousand people. more in comparison with the previous year, of which every third tourist, vacationing in the Kuban, visited the wineries and wine centers of the region. In the concept of the development of the sanatorium-resort and tourist complex of the Krasnodar Territory until 2030, wine tourism is designated as a part of rural (agricultural) tourism and is considered as a promising direction. Also, the region of Krasnodar Territory (the Abrau-Dyurso group of companies) is presented as part of the European cultural route of grapevine and wine “Iter Vitis - Les Chemins de la Vigne”. The purpose of the study is to identify the prospects for the development of enotourism in the Krasnodar Territory. The purpose of the study involves the solution of the following specific tasks: - Explore the natural and cultural-historical resources of the region and determine the priority areas of tourism in the Krasnodar Territory; - To study the prerequisites and history of the development of enotourism in the world and identify its specificity and features of the classification; - To analyze the current state of the wine tourism industry in the leading countries in the production and consumption of wine and to determine the uniqueness of the wine tourism industry in the Krasnodar Territory; - to conduct an examination of the wineries of the Krasnodar Territory, having considered the development prospects. Winemaking enterprises are making plans for the development of infrastructure, many of them receive tourists, and have varied and rich excursion programs. New vineyards are being planted, closed small farms are considering the prospect of accepting small groups, and for specialists of the wine industry there is an opportunity to get to almost any winery by prior arrangement. The Krasnodar Territory region is interested in promoting enotourism; attempts are being made to interact between the authorities and private farms. Even small wineries are ready to invest in the development of their infrastructure to attract new tourists. The region uses all possible mechanisms to popularize the wine tourism industry both at the state level and at the business level.

The benefits of agritourism : two case studies in the Western Cape

Van Niekerk, Chantell 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil)--Stellenbosch University, 2013. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The amalgamation of the two large industries, agriculture and tourism, created a new industry called agritourism. Current farming practices are not securing employment opportunities for farm workers, and this situation will be aggravated by the increased economic pressures on farming. Agritourism is seen as a diversification option which could assist in creating jobs for the vulnerable and unemployed farm community, while at the same time create financial incentives to the farmer. This study specifically focused on the advantages which could be derived from agritourism, with Sen’s Capabilities Theory being used as frame of reference when determining the non-financial benefits accruing to the local community on the farm. A qualitative research approach was followed and information was gathered through interviews, observations and being embedded in the researched spaces. Two case study sites were used for primary research, Keisies Cottages (situated outside Montagu) and Tierhoek Cottages (situated outside Robertson). The management approach applied on the farms play an important role in developing the farm workers’ capabilities, entitlements and functionings as articulated in Sen’s Capabilities Theory. The two South African agritourism case study sites were found to follow some of the international trends identified during the literature review of this study but also offered new findings relevant to the South African context. Although agritourism is seen as a diversification strategy to ensure survival for most farmers, such strategies offer both financial and non-financial benefits to the broader farming community while having the potential to create a refuge for urban dwellers and assist visitors to reconnect with the farmers and their produce. This research contributes to the South African agritourism literature, which is currently limited. By highlighting some of the advantages of this industry, this research could also assist farm owners who are considering agritourism as a diversification strategy.

Go Farm, Goleta: Urban Agriculture Protection for Eastern Goleta Valley

Krispi, Eli M 01 June 2011 (has links)
This paper explores two potential land use planning strategies that can be used to preserve and enhance the economic viability of agricultural operations surrounded by suburban development in Santa Barbara County’s Eastern Goleta Valley: buffers between agriculture and other land uses, and agritourism. In the case of buffers, academic literature is examined to determine how effective buffers are at various tasks (filtering runoff, mitigating dust and wind, providing habitat, etc.) and how to construct buffers to maximize their effectiveness. Land use plans and codes from several California jurisdictions are studied to see how buffers are put to use. Academic literature is then reviewed to discover the benefits and potential drawbacks of agritourism to agricultural operations and the larger area. The zoning codes from the top five agritourism counties in California are evaluated to see how effective they are at facilitating five common agritourism uses; these best practices are then compared to the current zoning in Santa Barbara County. This paper concludes by summarizing the applicability of the literature and case studies to Eastern Goleta Valley, and proposes a new zoning designation and other policies to help maintain the urban agriculture operations. This new zoning designation includes a 30-foot minimum width for buffers and a three-tier categorization of land uses capable of promoting agritourism.
