Design and Implement an Efficient Web Application Server

Wu, Jr-Houng 01 August 2000 (has links)
Web application servers are rapidly becoming the essential resources for competitive advantage, because e-businesses can gain amount of revenues. However, benefits are coming from consumers, more consumers cause more benefits. So web application server, which can provide more efficient services, will attract more people. To gain the biggest advantage, we research in Internet to find out a new method. A web application server means it will have frequent transactions. And it will access data in database and produce new web pages to respond consumers through the CGI (Common Gateway Interface) programs. In this paper, we present a new method that can improve performance of web application server through saving network¡¦s bandwidth, reducing web server loading and cutting wait-time of end user. The method primarily uses divided dedicated data and common information of the source web page. With saving the multiple download time of the common information, the efficiency of network¡¦s bandwidth and the user waiting time can be improved effectively. The method also can be easily combined with other existed technologies that can solve Internet efficiency problems. And we developed an approach to design and implement an efficient web application server. Finally, we measure the result of the traditional method and the new method to prove that our method really can save network¡¦s bandwidth, reduce web server loading and cut wait-time of end user. We hope the method can improve general existed problems in Internet.

Reducing Data Copying Overhead in Web Servers

Yeung, Gary 06 1900 (has links)
Web servers that generate dynamic content are widely used in the development of Internet applications. With the Internet highly connected to people’s lifestyles, the service requirements of Internet applications have increased significantly. This increasing trend intensifies the need to improve server performance in dynamic content generation. In this thesis, we describe the opportunity to improve server performance by co-locating the web server and the application server on the same machine. We identify related work and discuss their respective advantages and deficiencies. We then introduce and explain our technique that passes the client socket’s file descriptor from the web server process to the application server. This allows the application server to reply to the client directly, reducing the amount of data copied and improving server performance. Experiments were designed to evaluate the performance of this technique and provide a detailed analysis of processor time and data copying during response delivery. A performance comparison against alternative approaches has been performed. We analyze the results to understand factors in data copying efficiency and determine that cache misses are an important factor in server performance. There are four major contributions in this thesis. First, we show that in multiprocessor environments, co-locating web servers and application servers can take advantage of faster communication. Second, we introduce a new technique that reduces the amount of data copied by two-thirds. This technique requires no modifications to the application server code (other existing techniques do), and it is also applicable in a variety of systems, allowing easy adoption in production environments. Third, we provide a performance comparison against other approaches and raise questions regarding data copying efficiency. Our technique attains an average peak throughput of 1.27 times the FastCGI with Unix domain sockets in both uniprocessor and multiprocessor environments. Finally, our analysis on the effect of cache misses on server performance provides valuable insights into why these benefits are obtained.

Integrace pomocí frameworku SwitchYard / Integration with framework SwitchYard

Osmík, Lukáš January 2013 (has links)
The thesis deals with enterprise service bus (ESB). In theoretical part there are described ESB and other technologies relevant to this topic. Next there are described advantages and disadvantages of the deployment and mapped current market of ESB solutions. Last chap-ter briefly discusses other technologies recovered for the practical part. The second part deals with the design and implementation ESB using framework SwitchYard. I describe the systems to be integrated, further progress in the development such as preparation envi-ronment, server configuration and description of the most important parts of the developed system. The last chapter deals with the practical part of the evaluation framework. It in-cludes the description of the errors that I have encountered in the development and verbal evaluation on the basis of general ESB functionality described in the theoretical part.

MANAGING TELEMETRY AS AN ENTERPRISE SOLUTION LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY INTO NEXT-GENERATION TELEMETRY ARCHITECTURES

Yates, James William 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 23-26, 2000 / Town & Country Hotel and Conference Center, San Diego, California / With today’s rapidly shifting technology in the areas of networking, the Web, platform-independent software, and component technology, a paradigm shift will allow us to treat our telemetry systems as enterprise-wide solutions in the future. These technologies will revolutionize how we support all phases of telemetry data acquisition, processing, archiving, distribution, and display. This paper will explain how these changes affect systems designers, operators, and users. Specific technical areas of discussion include: § Technology adoption cycles § Object-oriented environments and component technologies § Database interconnectivity § Web-enabling concepts and implementations § Application servers § Database replication § Data warehousing § Embedded Web servers

Performance Analysis And Comparison Of Soa Servers In Different Applications

Kuszewski, Maciej 01 July 2010 (has links) (PDF)
One of the most crucial decisions when developing a system based on Service Oriented Architecture is to select an appropriate server which will be the ground for building the application. Similar to databases, an application server has significant influence on efficiency, stability, and security of entire system. During the preparation of architecture for system development one has to decide which available application server would be optimal for hosting and maintaining v Web Services in the given case. There are multiple significant criteria that lead to the proper choice. The impact on a decision among other things is type of the physical machine on which the application server is installed, estimated number of simultaneous clients, and sizes of requests and responses between clients and server. The goal for this thesis is to conduct the comparative analysis of the most commonly used application servers using Service Oriented Architecture and to determine which server should be applied in which particular cases. Performance and load tests will be conducted using SoapUI application.

Vergleich von javabasierten Application-Servern auf Basis der Entwicklung eines verteilten Beschaffungssystems für die Universität

Quiring, Lars 26 October 2017 (has links)

Ameling, Michael 28 September 2009 (has links) (PDF)
Business applications such as supply chain management (SCM) or customer relationship management (CRM) are replicated in order to reach high scalability and fast local access. The business objects representing the data containers have to be synchronized to stay consistent across the application servers. This thesis provides a contribution to reach more efficiency during the synchronization process by reducing the amount of synchronization messages and the amount of data to be transmitted. The additional effort due to further processing steps is taken into account via a proper cost model.
