They call it competence, and it is for sale : Decisions and effects of master vendor arrangements

Land, Mia-Berentje, Busatlija, Emina January 2016 (has links)
Background Temporary work agencies have been around for several decades. An emerging outgrowth from these has been expanding in the industry, known as master vendor arrangements. Furthermore, much research has been devoted to the usage of temporary working agencies but less attention has been devoted to the master vendor arrangements and the consequences from using such an arrangement. Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore the strategic decision of implementing a master vendor arrangement offered by a consultant brokerage firm and the impact of such a decision on the company. Method This study is using an inductive approach, where the empirical findings are gathered through semi-structured interviews as well as corporate documents. The empirical findings are collected trough an interview study and analysed through a template analysis. The theoretical framework helped us build our constructs from which we have structured the overall themes in our semi-structured interviews. Conclusions An implementation of a master vendor arrangement is complex and can generate several consequences. In this study we identify six major consequences that end clients have experienced. By considering these factors a greater understanding of how to look upon a master vendor arrangement can be formed.

UDC as a non-disciplinary classification system for a high-school library

Cousson, Philippe 12 1900 (has links)
The paper addresses issues in establishing a user-friendly systematic collection arrangement following a merger of two high school and college library collections classified according to UDC. In the way it was used, this scheme presented some weaknesses with respect to collection usage. Due to the disciplinary nature of UDC, subjects and phenomena are dispersed in the scheme according to the disciplines in which they are the subject of study. At the same time students in a school library often seek interdisciplinary subjects and need access to clusters of documents which according to UDC may be classed in several different knowledge areas. The author illustrates how this problem was resolved by re-arranging the collection according to phenomena. This was achieved by interpreting UDC numbers as if they represented specific phenomena. Thus, by superimposing some local indexing rules onto a disciplinary knowledge organization system it was possible to collocate interdisciplinary subjects under a single class number. Furthermore, by reversing subject numbers and form auxiliaries (atlases, dictionaries, textbooks etc.) which is an option envisaged in the design of UDC, documents were collocated in the way they are most frequently used by students. The author suggests that, in practice, one often needs to overcome the constraints of disciplinary classification and he discusses the approach used in his school library collection.

Giuseppe Tartini’s “Devil’s Trill” Sonata: An Arrangement and Recording for Solo Violin

January 2019 (has links)
abstract: This document is comprised of an arrangement and recording of Giuseppe Tartini’s “Devil’s Trill” Sonata for solo violin, and includes historical background, an exploration of Italian ornamentation, and a structural analysis. The original work was written for violin and basso continuo. The author was inspired to create this arrangement for solo violin based on accounts that Tartini liked to perform this work unaccompanied. The first three chapters focus on events from Tartini’s early life that influenced his compositional style. Chapters four and five provide an overview of Italian ornamentation, and explore five documents that were used to support decisions in creating the arrangement: Giovanni Luca Conforto’s The Joy of Ornamentation; Giuseppe Tartini’s Traité des Agréments de la Musique; Letter to Signora Maddalena Lombardini; Regole; and L’Arte dell Arco. Chapter six provides a structural analysis of the Sonata. The appendices illustrate the process of creating the arrangement. The arrangement takes into consideration the composite of the original solo and basso continuo parts. In addition, a set of realized ornaments is provided on an ossia staff. The recording includes both the primary arrangement, presented in each initial section, as well as the realized ornaments, presented in each repeated section. / Dissertation/Thesis / Tartini "Devil's Trill" Sonata: Movement I / Tartini "Devil's Trill" Sonata: Movement III / Tartini "Devil's Trill" Sonata: Movement II / Doctoral Dissertation Music 2019

The Milnor fiber associated to an arrangement of hyperplanes

Williams, Kristopher John 01 July 2011 (has links)
Let f be a non-constant, homogeneous, complex polynomial in n variables. We may associate to f a fibration with typical fiber F known as the Milnor fiber. For regular and isolated singular points of f at the origin, the topology of the Milnor fiber is well-understood. However, much less is known about the topology in the case of non-isolated singular points. In this thesis we analyze the Milnor fiber associated to a hyperplane arrangement, ie, f is a reduced, homogeneous polynomial with degree one irreducible components in n variables. If n > 2then the origin will be a non-isolated singular point. In particular, we use the fundamental group of the complement of the arrangement in order to construct a regular CW-complex that is homotopy equivalent to the Milnor fiber. Combining this construction with some local combinatorics of the arrangement, we generalize some known results on the upper bounds for the first betti number of the Milnor fiber. For several classes of arrangements we show that the first homology group of the Milnor fiber is torsion free. In the final section, we use methods that depend on the embedding of the arrangement in the complex projective plane (ie not necessarily combinatorial data) in order to analyze arrangements to which the known results on arrangements do not apply.

Les méthodes de la Cour de cassation dans la création du droit : étude à la lumière du droit des obligations / The Court of cassation's methods in the creation of law : study in the light of law of obligations

Lanzara, Delphine 25 November 2014 (has links)
Usually, when a debate comes to an end, the question disappears. Now that it’s been resolved, there is no more reason to continue researche. So why is the jurisprudence still at the center of the interest ? The question to know if the judge can produce rules has been resolved. After a century of controversy, the authors seem to agree on an affirmative answer : the judge has a normative power and he can produce rules as the legislator. So then, what are the contemporary works about ? Many words have been spent about the way the judge is acting : his methods have been changing over time. They are becaming more audacious. The question now is to understand how far he can go. Can he break the law ? Create subversive rules ? Can the judge retroactively, inconveniently, and unpredictably overturns rules ? The others jurists may not approve of it. As the judge of Common law, the French judge may not be totally free towards the law, nor towards his own jurisprudence. The current works are trying to reveal all the limits of the praetorian power.

To explore the policy influence of cable TV franchise combination

shiao, shiao-chun 03 September 2004 (has links)
Abstract The main purpose of this article is to explore the policy influence of cable TV franchise combination. In order to break the local monopoly of Taiwan¡¦s cable TV as well as considering the advance technological convergence proposed, Government Information Office (GIO) proposed the adjustment of the existing 47 franchise districts to a single franchise area in three phases in its Jan. 2003 report. The re-arrangement of the franchise region will cause a revolution in the industry. How will it influence those system operators? Is it possible to develop into another cable TV war by cutting prices to gain benefits of audiences? Do system operators have any action plans for the change? Can this policy benefit the industry¡¦s development? This article will provide detailed discussions on these major issues. There are two ways to go about the research. The first is by the means of questionnaire; distribution of questionnaires to 62-system owners in Taiwan results in 54 effective samples gathered. The second is by means of in-depth interview; conducting interviews with industrial, legislative, and academic experts. After statistical analysis and content analysis, the research findings from these interviews are as follow: 1. The re-arrangement of cable TV franchise regions might cause significant competition between system operators. In the long run, it is unlikely that the cable TV industries will apply vicious competition tactics as previously done. It is believed that strategic alliance, stock exchange, and multiple service strategies will be implemented instead. 2. Under the influence of re-arranging franchise region policy and increasing new entry competitions, most system operators will focus on strengthening their network upgrade, customer service, and professional employee training. They are also likely to develop new business opportunities and to engage in cost-saving activities. 3. Most system operators support the policy with positive anticipation. The regulatory authority expects tremendous benefits for both audiences and cable industry. The scholars project an improvement in operators¡¦ customer service quality. In summary, the policy is expected to have a positive influence on cable industry¡¦s overall development. Since the policy has a major impact on the industry¡¦s future, it is essential to meet all development needs of the cable industry. As research suggests that the authorities should communicate with all related parties before rolling out the franchise regional adjustment policy.

Elementary Solving Strategies of Inequalities

Li, Tzu-lin 20 June 2006 (has links)
In many mathematical problems, we are expected to compare the interesting quantities. Thus, the use of well-known inequalities will be required. Techniques of using these inequalities to solve inequality problems vary from problem to problem. In this paper, we will introduce commonly used well-known inequalities in high school mathematical contests and discuss the solving strategies for inequality problems.
