Augalinių preparatų rinka Lietuvoje / Market of herbal preparations in Lithuania

According to data of research company „IMS Health“ the pharmacy market in Lithuania increases year by year, and sales of non-prescribed medicine increase significantly. A part of those sales is comprised of herbal medicine preparations. Analysis of competitive environment, analysis of available preparations portfolio and possibilities of the company‘s development are compulsory seeking to stay competitive. During the last years we observed an increasing interest of consumers in herbal medicine preparations, therefore, the topic chosen is relevant for the Master‘s Degree thesis. Aim of the study: to evaluate possibilities of development of „Bionorica AG“ company on Lithuanian market. Objectives: Review of market of herbal preparations, evaluation of external environment, analysis of portfolio of the company‘s preparations, possibilities and analysis of the company‘s development on the market. Methods – model of M. Porter, with the help of which competitive analysis was performed. Survey of drugstores. Questionnaire data of surveys were entered, processed and analyzed with the use of statistics data analysis program SPSS. Analysis of the products‘ portfolio was performed with the use of matrix model of Boston consulting group (BCG). Possibilities of the company‘s development are analyzed in the paper with the use of forecasting method - trend model. 1. GENERAL CHARACTERICTICS OF THE WORK First drugs were of herbal origin. Today, preparations of this kind are highly appreciated. Social and economic changes have been influencing public health. The rhythm of life and nervous strain have negative effects on the human body. Many ailments are caused by emotional variations. Illnesses of the nervous system and related disorders of the digestive system raise an important concern nowadays. The potential of phytopreparations in the treatment of such ailments is capable of completing the gaps of their treatment. Phytopreparations can be used for treatment for an extensive period of time. Critics of phytotherapy can argue that existence of modern synthetic medicine supersedes phytopreparations. It must be noted, though, that this medicine is effective and easily digested. It does not compete with, but only complements pharmacotherapy. Phytopreparations are often used in the treatment of chronic disorders of the digestive system such as higher sensitivity, atony, ailments of bile bladder and duct. Functional disorders of intestine cause diarrhea, spasmodic pains, stomach rumble, and loose bowels. In case of functional stomach and intestine disorders, treatment with sedative and peristalsis regulating medicine is applied in addition to a rational daily routine and diet. Lietuvoje daugiausiai buvo užregistruota virškinimo sistemą veikiančių augalinės kilmės preparatų. Dažniausiai registruojamos augalinių vaistinių preparatų vaistų formos yra tabletės, lašai, tirpalai bei arbatos. Tarp augalinių preparatų Lietuvos vaistų registre vyrauja savo produkciją įregistravusios Lietuvos, Vokietijos bei Lenkijos įmonės. Tarp įmonių įregistravusių savo produkciją lyderiauja Lietuvos įmonės „Acorus Calamus“, „Švenčionių vaistažolės“, Lenkijos įmonė „Herbapol“ (iki 2000m.) bei Lietuvos įmonė „Valentis“ (2010m. ir 2013m.). / 1994 – 2013 there were mainly registered drugs for digestive system. The most common herbal medicines registered drug forms are tablets, drops, solutions and tea. In Lithuania main drug companies are from Lithuania, Germany and Poland. Since 1994 most succssefull companies who had registered their products were Lithuanian companies “Acorus Calamus”, “Švenčionių vaistažolės”, Polish company “Herbapol” (until 2000) and Lithuanian company “Valentis” (2010 - 2013).
