Sistema de visão robótica para reconhecimento de contornos de componentes na aplicação de processos industriais

Foresti, Renan Luís January 2006 (has links)
This work approaches the implementation of a robotics vision system to recognize 2D forms and contour transformation in trajectory to an industrial manipulator. The image acquisition occur by CCD video camera on the specific capture area. A webcam system is also tested. The captured image is sent to a MATLAB computer processing, through a control software routine, written in VB. NET. The contrast and resolution changes are analyzed with different objects where the system identifies the pixels of object contour using Otsu’s Thresholding Method and morphological algorithms. The position of each pixel is processed, transformed in cartesian coordinates and sent to the robotic manipulator control, which executes the trajectory simulating an industrial process. The transmission to the manipulator control is realized in a special protocol, using the parallel port of computer and a digital signal acquisition card of the manipulator control. A simulation process in a manufacturing cell is aimed to validate the system, identifying distinct objects that coming in a disorientated form from a belt conveyor.

Control and Automation of a Heat Shrink Tubing Process

Yousefi Darani, Shahrokh 08 1900 (has links)
Heat shrink tubing is used to insulate wire conductors, protect wires, and to create cable entry seals in wire harnessing industries. Performing this sensitive process manually is time consuming, the results are strongly dependent on the operator’s expertise, and the process presents safety concerns. Alternatively, automating the process minimizes the operators’ direct interaction, decreases the production cost over the long term, and improves quantitative and qualitative production indicators dramatically. This thesis introduces the automation of a heat shrink tubing prototype machine that benefits the wire harnessing industry. The prototype consists of an instrumented heat chamber on a linear positioning system, and is fitted with two heat guns. The chamber design allows for the directing of hot air from the heat guns onto the wire harness uniformly through radially-distributed channels. The linear positioning system is designed to move the heat chamber along the wire harness as the proper shrinkage temperature level is reached. Heat exposure time as a major factor in the heat shrink tubing process can be governed by controlling the linear speed of the heat chamber. A control unit manages the actuator position continuously by measuring the chamber’s speed and temperature. A model-based design approach is followed to design and test the controller, and MATLAB/Simulink is used as the simulation environment. A programmable logic controller is selected as the controller implementation platform. The control unit performance is examined and its responses follow the simulation results with adequate accuracy.

Applied Real-Time Integrated Distributed Control Systems: An Industrial Overview and an Implemented Laboratory Case Study

Zaitouni, Wael K 08 1900 (has links)
This thesis dissertation mainly compares and investigates laboratory study of different implementation methodologies of applied control systems and how they can be adopted in industrial, as well as commercial, automation applications. Namely the research paper aims to assess or evaluate eventual feedback control loops' performance and robustness over multiple conventional or state-of-the-art technologies in the field of applied industrial automation and instrumentation by implementing a laboratory case study setup: the ball on beam system. Hence, the paper tries to close the gap between industry and academia by: first, conducting a historical study and background information of main evolutional and technological eras in the field of industrial process control automation and instrumentation. Then, some related basic theoretical as well as practical concepts are reviewed in Chapter 2 of the report before displaying the detailed design. After that, the next Chapter, analyses the ball on beam control system problem as the case studied in the context of this research through reviewing previous literature, modeling and simulation. The following Chapter details the proposed design and implementation of the ball on beam case study as if it is under the introduced distributed industrial automation architecture. Finally, Chapter 5 concludes this work by listing several points leaned, remarks, and observations, and stating possible development and the future vision of this research.
