The effects of casting position and bar shape on the lap length of plain bars in concrete

2013 March 1900 (has links)
Eighteen splice specimens were tested under four-point loading as part of a larger experimental investigation to study the behaviour of lap spliced plain steel bars in reinforced concrete specimens. Three of the specimens were instrumented with strain gauges adhered to the reinforcement and the concrete side face. Three lap splice lengths, two bar sizes for square bars, and one bar size for round bars were investigated. The principal reinforcement was either cast in the bottom or top position. The results of maximum loads, crack patterns, load versus deflection behaviour, and deflected profiles are presented for all specimens. The analysis of specimens with strain gauge instrumentation is also presented, and includes results of strain compatibility, bond stress distribution, and flexural section analysis. All specimens failed by bond, caused by a sudden pullout of the reinforcement within the splice region. An equivalent round diameter based upon the cross-section area of the square bars allowed for a single predictive equation between the maximum normalized load as a function of splice length, casting position and bar size. A top cast factor of 0.4 and 0.6 captures the reduction in the maximum normalized load for specimens cast with round and square bars, respectively, in the top position. The CEB-FIP Model Code (1993) predictive equations are reasonably conservative in capturing the behaviour of specimens reinforced with round bars cast in the bottom position, and square bars with side dimension of 25 mm cast in the bottom position. However, the CEB-FIP Model Code (1993) predictive equation is unconservative when predicting the behaviour of specimens reinforced with either square or round bars cast in the top position. On the other hand, the draft CEB-FIP Model Code (2010) provisions showed an overly conservative prediction for all specimens reinforced with either round or square bars cast in the top or bottom position. Instrumented specimens showed that strain compatibility between the longitudinal reinforcement and the surrounding concrete did not exist for much of the loading range due to bond loss. The evaluation of the neutral axis location within the shear span showed that shear is first transferred by beam action, followed by arch action. The use of three strain gauges adhered to the concrete side face provided flexural moments similar to that predicted theoretically.

Podnikatelský plán / Business Plan

Kubový, Daniel January 2012 (has links)
The subject of this diploma thesis is the business plan for the restaurant facility called "Tapas Bar & Restaurant". In this diploma thesis will be developed and evaluated two variants (pessimistic and optimistic) because of mediation more realistic perspective on the issues for entrepreneurs and potential investors. The aim of this diploma thesis is to prove or disprove the feasibility and economic viability of the company in the current market conditions in the Czech Republic. In the below presented business plan is taken into account complexity, i.e. the development of the plan from selecting an object, staffing, calculation of the fixed and variable costs until opening of the facility and prediction of development for several years. In the financial analysis of the business plan will be taken into account effectiveness of invested funds and their returns. The theoretical part of this work is mainly defined by methodological approaches to the issue. The practical part is managed/followed by these approaches by creating of own business plan.

E pur si mouve resto-bar

Zenner Fleitas, Carlos Antonio 12 1900 (has links)

A study on underactuated six-bar human-like robotic hand

Wu, Chih-wei 09 August 2007 (has links)
Abstract In the early days, designer emphasized that human-like robotic hands should have high degree of freedoms(DOFs) and fully simulate all motions of human hands. It makes the system to be too expensive and complex. In recent years, the performance of grasp is no longer depend on the DOFs only after the concept of underactuated is applied. In this article, we discussed the designs and mechanisms of robotic hands and the design principle of underactuated. The SYS-1 underactuated human-like robotic hand uses only six actuator to control ten DOFs, the fingers of SYS-1 consist of underactuated six-bar linkage that simulate human¡¦s fingers motion. The ejection effect is also well controlled. Every finger is an independent module and can be separate or deploy according to the needs. The conduit-tendon system let SYS-1 can work in the water or high temperature environment without any damage. We also analysis the motion characteristic and grasp performance of SYS-1 and compare to the other similar designs.

From outcrop to functional reservoir model : using outcrop data to model the tidally dominated esdolomada sandstone, NE Spain

Pinkston, Daniel Patrick 20 July 2012 (has links)
The Esdolomada Sandstone member 2 crops out in the Tremp-Graus Basin of north-central Spain and forms the uppermost part of the Eocene Roda Formation. The second Sandstone unit within the Esdolomada member (ESD2) consists of bioturbated and shell-rich, very-fine sandstones as well as stacked sets of fine- to coarse-grained cross-stratified sandstones. The overall upward trend in the member is commonly upward thickening and coarsening of beds into and through the cross-stratified interval, though at some few locations there is no obvious trend or even upward thinning of beds. The internal architecture of the member is one in which groups of beds lie between master surfaces that dip highly obliquely to the migration direction of the individual cross strata. The ESD2 is interpreted to be a shelf tidal sand bar within the overall transgressive Esdolomada Sandstone member. It is likely that these bars migrated in a coast parallel fashion, as suggested by the cross-bed orientations, but also accreted laterally away from the coast along the seaward-dipping master surfaces. LIDAR (light detection and ranging) data collection for the Esdolomada member was attempted along the Isábena River near the village of Roda de Isábena, with a total lateral coverage of approximately 3 kilometers. Detailed outcrop measurements were made in accessible areas along the same transect. Outcrop analogs are the best source of data to understand reservoir heterogeneities and to build reservoir analogs for fluid flow simulations. Sand-rich, offshore tidal sandbodies are usually surrounded by marine mudstones, and are recognized from their very orderly stacking of cross-stratified sets (more orderly than in fluvial settings) , their complex internal architecture of master surfaces dipping obliquely to the direction of migration of the contained cross strata and their significant sandstone/mudstone heterogeneities. Tidal bar systems such as the ESD2 are appealing hydrocarbon prospects for several reasons. Primarily, they are relatively coarse grained, have a high degree of lateral continuity, and are relatively clean sands. In places where sand beds are stacked, they create enough thickness to offer good vertical permeability; however, mud-draped cross-beds can create heterogeneities in this type of system that buffer fluid flow. Due to a fairly unsuccessful attempt to obtain LIDAR coverage of the ESD2, in order to build an analog reservoir model, surfaces were instead based on measured sections and outcrop photomosaics. Using Schlumberger’s Petrel software, facies logs were created from measured section data, and then interpolated to make a facies and porosity model. / text

Mechanics of selected parallel bar and horizontal bar stunts in gymnastics

Ikeda, Katsunori January 1975 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to describe and compare the mechanical similarity and difference of the peach basket and the backward free hip circle by use of numerical and graphical expressions through cinematographic analysis.Sixteen millimeter motion pictures were taken of performances by four male gymnasts. Parameters such as shoulder and hip angles, trajectories of the total body’s centers of gravity, radii of the total body’s rotation, and total body’s angular velocity and acceleration, moment of inertia and angular momentum were derived. The trajectories of the total body’s centers of gravity on the peach basket and the free hip circle were found similar. The free hip circle was associated with less shoulder flexion than the peach basket, and the more frequent change of the hip flexion and extension was found on the peach basket than on the free hip circle. The free hip circle to handstand possessed larger amount of angular momentum at the ascent phase because of the larger amount of moment of inertia with the longer rotational radius (and larger amount of time of the arm pull) than the peach basket. The free hip circle could possibly be a direct introductory stunt for a gymnast to acquire the kinesthetic senses involved in the peach basket, but it would not be utilized to acquire the advanced skills of the peach basket, because the peach basket requires more complicated and different muscle movements in its successful execution.
