Fully Integrated and Switched Test Environment and Automated Testing (FIST@)

Yan, Jing January 2006 (has links)

This thesis examines the possibility of designing a fully integrated and switched testing environment for a test laboratory which conducts automated testing. Execution of tests in this environment will make it possible to manage all test objects without requiring any manual intervention resulting in efficient utilization of machine hours and test objects. The thesis explores the concepts and requirements for designing such an environment. It also describes the methods to implement the environment. The result of the thesis work shows that it is possible to design and implement a fully integrated and switched testing environment which can reduce the lead time for delivery by a substantial amount along with a more efficient utilization of machine hours and resources. The exact information related to the instruments, devices under testing and tools are removed by the author according to NDA.

A Survey of Pennsylvania School Principals' Perceptions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification Process and the Leadership Roles of National Board Certified Teachers

Balbach, Amy 13 July 2012 (has links)
Throughout the 1980's, the notion of standards came to the forefront throughout the education world. Groups questioned how to define quality teaching. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards was developed to meet this need providing a voluntary national certification to identify accomplished teachers. Since its inception, researchers have explored NBPTS. Yet, few studies sought the perspective of critical stakeholders, building principals, in evaluating the effectiveness of the NBPTS process. This study seeks to gain the perspective of those key administrators by comparing their perceptions of the National Board Certified Teachers and non-National Board Certified Teachers on their instructional staff. <br>A portion of this study replicates a study originally conducted by Dr. Robert Alvin Griffin of Auburn University. The current researcher added components exploring the leadership roles of NBCTs and the influence of school location. This study is important in Pennsylvania due to the focus on teacher effectiveness and the link between principal leadership and student achievement. <br>The study revealed a significant difference between principal perceptions of NBCTs and non-NBCTs when considering characteristics connected to the Five Core Propositions of NBPTS: Commitment to Student Learning, Knowledge of Subject Matter and How to Teach It, Management and Assessment of Student Learning, Systematic Thought about Practice, and Membership in Learning Communities. These findings are similar to those in Griffin's study. In terms of leadership, mixed reviews were noted. The majority of respondents indicated that there is no difference in leadership between NBCTs and non-NBCTs on their staff. There were no significant differences noted based upon school location of rural, urban, and suburban. <br>Findings suggest the National Board Certification process is effective and NBCTs are perceived to be more effective than their non-NBCT counterparts in all of the areas assessed on the core survey. However, the leadership piece remains unclear. Most principals perceived NBCTs as engaging in a variety of leadership activities but in generally the same ways and roles as non-NBCTs. There is work to be done by both principals and NBCTs to cultivate the leadership potential of NBCTs and increase the collective expertise of NBCTs in schools. / School of Education / Instructional Leadership Excellence (ILEAD) / EdD / Dissertation

Board Independence, Executive Pay Structures, and Pay Disclosure: Evidence from Europe

Muslu, Volkan 06 February 2004 (has links)
Using a broad sample of the largest European companies, I examine whether the two governance mechanisms, namely (i) independent monitoring by a board of directors and (ii) grants and disclosures of incentive-based executive pay, are substitutes for one another. I find that companies with proportionately more executives on their boards of directors grant greater incentive-based pay to their executives, and improve the transparency of their pay disclosure. The findings are consistent with the efficient contracting argument, which predicts that greater incentive-based pay and pay disclosure transparency mitigate agency problems generated by boards dependent upon management

CEO Compensation : Relationship with Performance and Influence of Board of Directors

Tariq, Usman January 2010 (has links)

This paper tries to find the relationship between the compensation given to the chief executive officer and the performance of the company. Further, it tries to determine the influence of the size of the Board members on the pay scale of the executive. The data consisted of the largest thirty companies in Sweden for the period of 2004-2008. After controlling for firm size and growth opportunities, I find a negative and insignificant relationship between pay and performance. Contradictory to previous studies no correlation between large board size and chief executive officers compensation was found. This paper adds more empirical evidence to the idea of chief executives pay being independent of his performance.

Franzén, Oscar, Jacobsson, Carl William January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to understand and describe master mariner students’ experiences of supervision during the performance of tasks necessary to achieve the intended learning outcomes for the first module of on board practical training. Semi structured personal interviews were made with eight freshman students between 25th of March and 5th of April 2013. These interviews were recorded and transcribed before being interpreted and structured into different categories. Strategic selection was used to select interviewees and these were interviewed using ”critical incident technique”. The result of this study shows that a supervision method that includes distinct instructions or demonstrations followed by correction and assessment is experienced in a positive way during the performance of certain tasks. In other cases, increased own influence has been experienced positively. The characteristics and requirements of a task affect the experience of the supervision method to a high degree. The study also shows that a lack of sufficient supervision can make it more difficult for the student to perform the tasks in the on board training manual and achieve the intended learning outcomes for on board practical training.

BORDIGA, FRANCESCO 13 April 2010 (has links)
The thesis reconstructs the function of the supervisory board, reaching the result – contrary to the leading opinion according to which to the said board is assigned a mere supervisory role – of granting "native" competences of strategic direction of the management, even in the absence of a clause in the by-laws as provided by article 2409-terdecies, lett. f-bis of the Italian Civil Code. The first chapter highlights that - unlike the board of statutory auditors, which has no authority to directly affect the components of the board of directors - the supervisory board exercises the control activity in order to directly influence the management through the power-duty to appoint and dismiss exercised on behalf of the shareholders. In the second chapter, starting from the qualification of the appointing-dismissal function in terms of power-duty, which implies an obligation to "guaranty" the ability of the managers to implement the company’s purpose with professional diligence, derives the conclusion that the exercise of the aforementioned power-duty requires that the supervisory body necessarily has to be involved in the strategic planning and management and in the acquisition of strategic choices related to it. The third chapter concludes that the statutory deliberative power provided by article. 2409-terdecies, lett. f-bis, of the Italian Civil Code represents the statutory rationalization/strengthening of the native power-duty to guide the high management implied by the function of appointing and dismissing the managers
