Muon production from heavy-flavour hadron decays in p-Pb and pp collisions with ALICE at the CERN-LHC / Production de muons de la désintégration des hadrons de saveurs lourdes avec ALICE au CERN-LHC

Les collisions d’ions lourds au LHC permettent l’étude des propriétés de la matière nucléaire soumise à des conditions extrêmes de température et densité d’énergie où on assisterait à la formation du Plasma de Quarks et Gluons (QGP). La mesure des saveurs lourdes ouvertes (charme et beauté) est particulièrement intéressante pour l’étude des propriétés du QGP. L’étude des collisions d’ions lourds au LHC nécessite aussi la mesure des collisions pp et p–Pb. Les collisions p-Pb permettent en particulier d’étudier les effets nucléaire froids et d’interpréter les effets nucléaires chauds observés dans les collisions Pb–Pb. Cette thèse est dédiée à l’étude de la production des saveurs lourdes ouvertes via les muons simples dans les collisions p–Pb à √8NN = 5.02 TeV aux rapidités avant et arrière avec le détecteur ALICE au LHC. La référence pp est estimée à partir des mesures pp à √8 = 2.76 TeV et 7 TeV et utilisant des calculs pQCD pour l’extrapolation à √8 = 5.02 TeV. Les mesures du facteur de modification nucléaire (RpPb) et du rapport des sections efficaces aux rapidités avant et arrière indiquent que les effets nucléaires froids sont faibles sur tout le domaine en impulsion transverse (pT) aux rapidités avant (RpPb ≈ 1). Aux rapidités arrière, le facteur de modification nucléaire est sensiblement plus grand que un dans la région 2 < pT < 4 GeV/c. Les résultats confirment que la forte suppression des taux de production des muons issus du charme et de la beauté mesurée dans les collisions centrales Pb–Pb est due au milieu dense et chaud. Le facteur de modification nucléaire et le rapport des sections efficaces aux rapidités avant et arrière sont aussi mesurés en fonction de la centralité dans les collisions p-Pb. Le facteur de modification nucléaire reste compatible avec l’unité à grand pT dans les collisions centrales. / The LHC heavy-ion physics program aims at investigating the properties of strongly-interacting matter in extreme conditions of temperature and energy density where the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) is formed. In high-energy heavy-ion collisions, heavy quarks (charm and beauty) are regarded as efficient probes of the properties of the QGP. The heavy-ion physics program requires also the study of proton-proton (pp) and proton-nucleus (p–Pb) collisions. The study of p–Pb collisions is used to investigate cold nuclear matter effects and to validate and quantify hot nuclear matter effects which are observed in nucleus-nucleus (Pb–Pb) collisions. This thesis work is devoted to the study of open heavy-flavour production at forward and backward rapidity via single muons in p–Pb collisions at √8NN = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The pp reference using available measurements at 2.76 and 7 TeV and a pQCD-driven method for the scaling to 5.02 TeV is estimated. The measurements of the nuclear modification factor (RpPb) at forward and backward rapidity and forward-to-backward ratio in p–Pb collisions, indicate that cold nuclear matter effects are small over the whole transverse momentum (pT) region at forward rapidity (RpPb compatible with unity within uncertainties). In the backward rapidity, the nuclear modification factor deviates from unity in the intermediate pT region (2 < pT < 4 GeV/c). These results confirm that the strong suppression measured at high pT in central Pb–Pb collisions is due to final-state effects induced by the hot and dense nuclear medium. The results of the nuclear modification factor and forward-to-backward ratio as a function of centrality in p–Pb collisions are discussed. Even in central collisions, the nuclear modification factor is compatible with unity at high pT.

Off-line and On-line Affective Recognition of a Computer User through A Biosignal Processing Approach

Physiological signals, which are controlled by the autonomic nervous system (ANS), could be used to detect the affective state of computer users and therefore find applications in medicine and engineering. The Pupil Diameter (PD) seems to provide a strong indication of the affective state, as found by previous research, but it has not been investigated fully yet. In this study, new approaches based on monitoring and processing the PD signal for off-line and on-line affective assessment (“relaxation” vs. “stress”) are proposed. Wavelet denoising and Kalman filtering methods are first used to remove abrupt changes in the raw Pupil Diameter (PD) signal. Then three features (PDmean, PDmax and PDWalsh) are extracted from the preprocessed PD signal for the affective state classification. In order to select more relevant and reliable physiological data for further analysis, two types of data selection methods are applied, which are based on the paired t-test and subject self-evaluation, respectively. In addition, five different kinds of the classifiers are implemented on the selected data, which achieve average accuracies up to 86.43% and 87.20%, respectively. Finally, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve is utilized to investigate the discriminating potential of each individual feature by evaluation of the area under the ROC curve, which reaches values above 0.90. For the on-line affective assessment, a hard threshold is implemented first in order to remove the eye blinks from the PD signal and then a moving average window is utilized to obtain the representative value PDr for every one-second time interval of PD. There are three main steps for the on-line affective assessment algorithm, which are preparation, feature-based decision voting and affective determination. The final results show that the accuracies are 72.30% and 73.55% for the data subsets, which were respectively chosen using two types of data selection methods (paired t-test and subject self-evaluation). In order to further analyze the efficiency of affective recognition through the PD signal, the Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) was also monitored and processed. The highest affective assessment classification rate obtained from GSR processing is only 63.57% (based on the off-line processing algorithm). The overall results confirm that the PD signal should be considered as one of the most powerful physiological signals to involve in future automated real-time affective recognition systems, especially for detecting the “relaxation” vs. “stress” states.

Dynamic Bayesian models for modelling environmental space-time fields

This thesis addresses spatial interpolation and temporal prediction using air pollution data by several space-time modelling approaches. Firstly, we implement the dynamic linear modelling (DLM) approach in spatial interpolation and find various potential problems with that approach. We develop software to implement our approach. Secondly, we implement a Bayesian spatial prediction (BSP) approach to model spatio-temporal ground-level ozone fields and compare the accuracy of that approach with that of the DLM. Thirdly, we develop a Bayesian version empirical orthogonal function (EOF) method to incorporate the uncertainties due to temporally varying spatial process, and the spatial variations at broad- and fine- scale. Finally, we extend the BSP into the DLM framework to develop a unified Bayesian spatio-temporal model for univariate and multivariate responses. Dans plusieurs domaines des statistiques, y compris le traitement du signal et des images, l'estimation en grande dimension est une tâche importante pour recouvrer un objet d'intérêt. Toutefois, dans la grande majorité de situations, ce problème est mal-posé. Cependant, bien que la dimension ambiante de l'objet à restaurer (signal, image, vidéo) est très grande, sa ``complexité'' intrinsèque est généralement petite. La prise en compte de cette information a priori peut se faire au travers de deux approches: (i) la pénalisation (très populaire) et (ii) l'agrégation à poids exponentiels (EWA). L'approche penalisée vise à chercher un estimateur qui minimise une attache aux données pénalisée par un terme promouvant des objets de faible complexité (simples). L'EWA combine une famille des pré-estimateurs, chacun associé à un poids favorisant exponentiellement des pré-estimateurs, lesquels privilègent les mêmes objets de faible complexité.Ce manuscrit se divise en deux grandes parties: une partie théorique et une partie algorithmique. Dans la partie théorique, on propose l'EWA avec une nouvelle famille d'a priori favorisant les signaux parcimonieux à l'analyse par group dont la performance est garantie par des inégalités oracle. Ensuite, on analysera l'estimateur pénalisé et EWA, avec des a prioris généraux favorisant des objets simples, dans un cardre unifié pour établir des garanties théoriques. Deux types de garanties seront montrés: (i) inégalités oracle en prédiction, et (ii) bornes en estimation. On les déclinera ensuite pour des cas particuliers dont certains ont été étudiés dans littérature. Quant à la partie algorithmique, on y proposera une implémentation de ces estimateurs en alliant simulation Monte-Carlo (processus de diffusion de Langevin) et algorithmes d'éclatement proximaux, et montrera leurs garanties de convergence. Plusieurs expériences numériques seront décrites pour illustrer nos garanties théoriques et nos algorithmes. / In many areas of statistics, including signal and image processing, high-dimensional estimation is an important task to recover an object of interest. However, in the overwhelming majority of cases, the recovery problem is ill-posed. Fortunately, even if the ambient dimension of the object to be restored (signal, image, video) is very large, its intrinsic ``complexity'' is generally small. The introduction of this prior information can be done through two approaches: (i) penalization (very popular) and (ii) aggregation by exponential weighting (EWA). The penalized approach aims at finding an estimator that minimizes a data loss function penalized by a term promoting objects of low (simple) complexity. The EWA combines a family of pre-estimators, each associated with a weight exponentially promoting the same objects of low complexity.This manuscript consists of two parts: a theoretical part and an algorithmic part. In the theoretical part, we first propose the EWA with a new family of priors promoting analysis-group sparse signals whose performance is guaranteed by oracle inequalities. Next, we will analysis the penalized estimator and EWA, with a general prior promoting simple objects, in a unified framework for establishing some theoretical guarantees. Two types of guarantees will be established: (i) prediction oracle inequalities, and (ii) estimation bounds. We will exemplify them for particular cases some of which studied in the literature. In the algorithmic part, we will propose an implementation of these estimators by combining Monte-Carlo simulation (Langevin diffusion process) and proximal splitting algorithms, and show their guarantees of convergence. Several numerical experiments will be considered for illustrating our theoretical guarantees and our algorithms.

Équations différentielles stochastiques rétrogrades quadratiques et réfléchies / Quadratic and reflected backward stochastic differential equations

Cette thèse s'intéresse à une étude variée des EDSRs. Une grande partie des résultats sont obtenus sous l'hypothèse d'une croissance de type quadratique du générateur en sa dernière variable. Un premier lien entre EDSRs quadratiques unidimensionnelles et théorie des jeux nous amène à développer des résultats avec générateurs convexes. La théorie du contrôle optimal nécessite quant à elle de traiter du cas multidimensionnel, dans lequel existence et unicité globales ne sont obtenues que pour des générateurs diagonalement quadratiques. Les résultats majeurs sur les EDSRs réfléchies (dont la solution est contrainte à rester dans un domaine) concernent des générateurs Lipschitziens. C'est dans ce cadre que nous développons un résultat de propagation du chaos, avec une contrainte portant sur la loi de la solution plutôt que sur sa trajectoire. Nous dressons enfin un pont entre EDSRs quadratiques et EDSRs réfléchies grâce aux EDSRs quadratiques de type champ moyen. Nous donnons plusieurs nouveaux résultats sur la possibilité de résoudre une équation quadratique dont le générateur dépend également de la moyenne des deux variables. / In this thesis, we are interested in studying variously Backward Stochastic Differential Equations. A large proportion of the results are obtained under the assumption that the driver is of quadratic growth in its last variable. A first link between one-dimensional quadratic BSDEs and game theory leads us to develop results with convex drivers. Optimal control theory requires as for it to deal with the multidimensional case, in which global existence and uniqueness are obtained only for diagonaly quadratic drivers. Major achievements in reflected BSDEs (whose solution is constrained to remain in a domain) are reached for Lipschitz drivers. We develop a result of chaos propagation in this setting, with a constraint on the law of the solution rather than on its path. We finaly build bridge between quadratic BSDEs and reflected BSDEs thanks to mean field quadratic BSDEs. We give several new results on solvability of a quadratic BSDE whose driver depends also on the mean of both variables.

The theoretical part deals with: the causes of flooding, their dividing and deals with options, how to protect endangered area. Main part includes calculations of the amount of sediment in the river Bobrava and the Hajanský stream, analysis of risks by quantitative expression, suggests to complete the flood plan of the community and a list of designed flood control measures with own technical suggestion. The last point is to consider, whether is the community threatened by backwater from the river Svratka, which the river Bobrava flows into.

Paralelní numerické řešení parciálních diferenciálních rovnic / Partial Differential Equations Parallel Solutions

This thesis deals with the topic of partial differential equations parallel solutions. First, it focuses on ordinary differential equations (ODE) and their solution methods using Taylor polynomial. Another part is devoted to partial differential equations (PDE). There are several types of PDE, there are parabolic, hyperbolic and eliptic PDE. There is also explained how to use TKSL system for PDE computing. Another part focuses on solution methods of PDE, these methods are forward, backward and combined methods. There was explained, how to solve these methods in TKSL and Matlab systems. Computing accuracy and time complexity are also discussed. Another part of thesis is PDE parallel solutions. Thanks to the possibility of PDE convertion to ODE systems it is possible to represent each ODE equation by independent operation unit. These units enable parallel computing. The last chapter is devoted to implementation. Application enables generation of ODE systems for TKSL system. These ODE systems represent given hyperbolic PDE.

La diffusion Raman est réalisée dans la géométrie inhabituelle de diffusion « en avant » (fonctionnant schématiquement en ‘mode de transmission’) pour explorer la nature et les propriétés des modes phonon-polaritons (polaires) de divers cristaux mixtes A1-xBxC à base de ZnSe. Un aperçu général est recherché en sélectionnant des systèmes qui se rapportent au même composé parent par souci de cohérence - à savoir ZnSe - mais avec différentes structures cristallines, i.e. de type zincblende (cubique : Zn1-xBexSe, ZnSe1-xSx, ZnxCd1-xSe) et de type wurtzite (hexagonal : Zn1-xMgxSe). Les systèmes retenus englobent toute la panoplie des comportements dans le régime de phonons natifs (non polaires) des phonons-polaritons, y compris les déviations sur-diversifiées [1 × (AB), 2 × (AC)] et sous-diversifiées de 1 × (AB, AC) par rapport au type -nominal [1 × (AB), 1 × (AC)], également dénommées multi-mode, 1-mode-mixte et 2-mode, respectivement, dans la classification admise des spectres Raman classiques de cristaux mixtes obtenus dans la géométrie conventionnelle de rétrodiffusion (fonctionnant schématiquement dans en 'mode réflexion'). La modélisation du contour des spectres Raman phonon-polariton obtenus est réalisée dans le cadre de la théorie de la réponse diélectrique linéaire en se basant sur des mesures d’ellipsométrie de l'indice de réfraction, avec des calculs ab initio en appui réalisés sur des motifs d'impureté prototypes dans les limites diluées (x~0,1), pour sécuriser le jeu réduit de paramètres d'entrée qui régissent le comportement phonon de base (non polaire) des cristaux mixtes étudiés. La discussion des spectres Raman obtenus en rétrodiffusion /avant est effectuée dans le cadre du modèle de percolation développé au sein de l’équipe pour une compréhension renouvelée des spectres optiques de vibration des cristaux mixtes. Ce modèle formalise une vision des choses selon laquelle les liaisons chimiques d'une espèce donnée vibrent à des fréquences différentes dans un cristal mixte selon que leur environnement est de même type ou de type différent à l'échelle très locale (des premiers, voire des seconds voisins). [...] / Inelastic Raman scattering is implemented in the unusual (near-)forward scattering geometry (schematically operating in the ‘transmission mode’) to explore the nature and properties of the (polar) phonon-polariton modes of various ZnSe-based A1-xBxC mixed crystals. An overall insight is searched by selecting systems that relate to the same parent compound for the sake of consistency – namely ZnSe – but with different crystal structures, i.e. of the zincblende (cubic: Zn1-xBexSe, ZnSe1-xSx, ZnxCd1-xSe) and wurtzite (hexagonal: Zn1-xMgxSe) types. Most of all, altogether the retained systems span the full variety of behavior in the native (non polar) phonon regime of the phonon-polaritons, including the over-diversified [1×(A−B),2×(A−C)] and sub-diversified 1×(A−B,A−C) deviations with respect to the nominal [1×(A−B),1×(A−C)] type, also referred to as the multi-mode, 1-mixed-mode and 2-mode types, respectively, in the admitted classification of the conventional Raman spectra of mixed crystals taken in the backscattering geometry (schematically operating in the ‘reflection mode’). Fair contour modeling of the obtained phonon-polariton Raman spectra is achieved within the linear dielectric response theory based on ellipsometry measurements of the refractive index and with ab initio calculations in support done on prototypal impurity motifs in both dilute limits (x~0,1), as needed to secure the reduced set of input parameters that govern the native (non polar) phonon mode behavior of the used mixed crystals. The backward/near-forward Raman spectra are discussed within the scope of the so-called percolation model developed within our group for a renewed understanding of the optical vibration spectra of the mixed crystals. This model formalizes a view that the chemical bonds of a given species vibrate at different frequencies in a mixed crystal depending on their like or foreign environment at the very local (first- or second-neighbor) scale. This introduces a generic 1-bond→2-mode phonon behavior for a mixed crystal, presumably a universal one. The main results enunciate as follows. [...]

Frequency based efficiency evaluation - from pattern recognition via backwards simulation to purposeful drive design

The efficiency of hydraulic drive systems in mobile machines is influenced by several factors, like the operators’ guidance, weather conditions, material respectively loading properties and primarily the working cycle. This leads to varying operation points, which have to be performed by the drive system. Regarding efficiency analysis, the usage of standardized working cycles gained through measurements or synthetically generated is state of the art. Thereby, only a small extract of the real usage profile is taken into account. This contribution deals with process pattern recognition (PPR) and frequency based efficiency evaluation to gain more precise information and conclusion for the drive design of mobile machines. By the example of an 18 t mobile excavator, the recognition system using Hidden – Markov - Models (HMM) and the efficiency evaluation process by means of backwards simulation of measured operation points will be described.

Solving systems of monotone inclusions via primal-dual splitting techniques

In this paper we propose an algorithm for solving systems of coupled monotone inclusions in Hilbert spaces. The operators arising in each of the inclusions of the system are processed in each iteration separately, namely, the single-valued are evaluated explicitly (forward steps), while the set-valued ones via their resolvents (backward steps). In addition, most of the steps in the iterative scheme can be executed simultaneously, this making the method applicable to a variety of convex minimization problems. The numerical performances of the proposed splitting algorithm are emphasized through applications in average consensus on colored networks and image classification via support vector machines.
