Tópicos elementares de teoria de códigos como motivação para o ensino da divisibilidade / Elementary topics of coding theory as a motivation for teaching divisibility

Feola, Liliane Soares de Siqueira 02 May 2016 (has links)
The main objective of the work is to develop educational activities related to the basic concepts of divisibility of integral numbers, providing tools to math school teachers. The way those concepts were presented, creates the proper environment for the student to understand the mathematic logic behind the detection of typing errors in numerical codes, like for example: barcodes, RG, CPF and ISBN. It is noteworthy that the methodology used was inspired by problem solving and investigative activities although, adjustments were made in order to comply with the content. Thus, it is expected that teachers will be able to provide opportunities to their students to develop skills and competences on the domain of elementary number theory, improve their knowledge on daily situations and explain the relationship between mathematics and technology. This work also seeks to arouse the interest of the students, who get motivated when they realize the applicability in daily life of the mathematical concepts covered here.

Staff Education Module for Bar Code Medication Administration

Juste, Francoise 01 January 2018 (has links)
Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) is a technology-supported nursing tool that has become the standard of practice for medication administration. When used effectively and efficiently, this tool has the potential to reduce medication errors in acute care settings. In a pediatric unit at a major urban hospital in the northeast region of the United States, the absence of a BCMA nursing staff educational module affected the use of this safety tool leading to an increase of medication errors. The purpose of this DNP project was to develop a comprehensive educational module to promote BCMA in the pediatric unit of the hospital. Two theories were used to guide the translation of research into practice. Lewin's theory of planned change was used as a conceptual model to understand human behavior related to change management. Also employed was Benner's novice to expert theory to define the learning process. The research question for this project involved whether a staff education module of BCMA would optimize the medication administration process and prevent medication errors. The research design included an expert panel that used a 5-point Likert scale to evaluate the BCMA education module for clearness, effectiveness, relevance and utilization in practice. Subsequently, the effectiveness of the module was determined through a descriptive analysis. Findings that resulted from the analysis of the evidence revealed 80% percent felt the education module will increase BCMA compliance and all agreed the education module would help identify areas of needed improvement with the current process. The social change of this study will impact nurses to deliver medications safely with the use of BCMA resulting in improved patient outcomes and safe medication administration.

The Problem of Missing Items at the Time of Production : A Case Study at Fläkt Woods in Jönköping

Smedberg, Karl, Asamoah-Barnieh, Raymond January 2009 (has links)
<p>In today‟s manufacturing environment, different parts manufactured in-house and bought from suppliers are often assembled together into a finished product. Competition has made it very important for companies to deliver a customized product on a promised date. However, when inventory items are missing at the time of production, lead times for products become uncertain and this makes it difficult to fulfill a customer order on the promised date. It is thus important to explore the causes of missing items at the time of production in order to solve such a problem. This Master of Science thesis carried out through a case study at Fläkt Woods in collaboration with Jönköping University is about the problem of not finding specific inventory items in the locations specified by the computer system. It is delimited to inventory items which are physically within the company premises or which according to the computer system are within the premises of the company. The questions at issue have been what the causes of the problem of missing items within the company are and how to effectively reduce the problem. The thesis has been carried out over an entire academic semester as a full-time work in the company. The sources of the problem have been found to be the result of the work procedure, the underlying software used during work (the in-house developed ERP system), stealing from orders, ineffective barcode scans, re-sequencing at the component manufacturing department (called pre-manufacturing in the company) due to the need to fulfill multiple objectives, set-up times at the component manufacturing department and human errors among others. The suggestions given include: modification of the work procedure and the underlying software used at work, increasing effective scanning and using some checks at critical points in the material flow. Areas for further research are given to further reduce the impact of the problem on the production system.</p>

Impacto da informatização na dispensação de medicamentos em um hospital universitário / “Impact of informatization on the delivery of medications at a university hospital.”

Serafim, Sonia Aparecida Dias 17 February 2005 (has links)
The present study was conducted from April 6 to July 21, 2004 with the objective of describing the structure and functioning of the informatized system for the control of the delivery of medications at the Division of Pharmaceutical Assistance of the University Hospital, Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo, and to assess the results obtained with its implantation regarding the nursing and pharmaceutical services. A standardized form was distributed to 58 nurses, 10 pharmacists and 15 pharmacist assistants who participated in the structuring phase in order to obtain their opinion regarding the requisition of medications, the form of presentation of the medications distributed by the hospital pharmacy, and the operationalization of the system. As a result, we observed that according to these professionals, the major advantages of the system are: the elimination of manual transcription for the requisition of the prescribed medication, the rapidity, the better identification of the doses prescribed by the doctors, the packaging of the medications containing all the necessary identification, and the verification of the requisitioned and distributed medication by optic reading of the bar code. The data collected in this study permitted us to conclude that most of the persons interviewed consider the system of distribution of medications to be of good quality. Analysis of the data reported here, although it may not involve some important dimensions for the search of a more rational medicamentous treatment, provides information that might contribute to the expansion and refining of the system, also providing support for the execution of studies on the use of medications and opening new perspectives of work and productivity.

Reducing Errors with Blood Administration Transfusion Systems

Stevens, Kim D 01 January 2019 (has links)
The intention of implementing technology into healthcare practices is to reduce opportunity for errors in the delivery of providing health care. However, errors still occur, and many times are preventable. Configurations of health information technology systems should match clinical workflows to promote usage as intended. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the impact of revised system configurations and use of a blood product transfusion system for the administration of blood products after one year of implementation. The method of heuristic evaluation is a usability engineering method for finding problems in a user interface design with the input of a small workgroup of subject matter experts. The project site had experienced reported incidents of blood product administration error as well as problems with systems communication since the implementation of the blood transfusion system. There were 31 nurse clinical educator staff users of the system who completed a survey evaluation of their perceptions of the blood transfusion system before and after configuration changes. The findings revealed that the mean quality and productivity score after the system configuration occurred was significantly higher than the mean score prior to the system configuration change, t (30) = -7.93, p < .001. The correlation between the one survey was also statistically significant, r = .46, p = .009. This project supports positive social change by reducing the potential for error for system users in the process of the blood administration process through heuristic evaluation through the implementation of changes to the technological system.
