Our objective was to investigate technical support for the performance of Cantares para Airton Barbosa by Aylton Escobar, because the lack of knowledge about the technique for the emission of these sounds precludes this performance. We conducted primarily a bibliographic study of methods that address the technique for issuing multiphonics sounds. Later we proceeded a technical and interpretive study of Escobar's work, based on studies of the previous phase. Finally, our goal was to diagnose the real technical extensions required for the issue of multiphonics. For this, we compared the instructions for fingering, embouchure and air pressure of Weissenborn´s method 1887, the reference to traditional bassoon technique, with the instructions found on modern methods, which address the multiphonics, as the methods of Bartolozzi (1967), Penazzi (1971), Gallois (2009) and Sampson (2004). After conducting this research, we concluded that the materials presented here, provide sufficient technical support for the performance of multiphonics present in Cantares. However, we observed different results in different types of materials, which shows the need to test by the performer. We also conclude that for the issue of multiphonics sounds there were technical extensions fingering, at the mouth and in the field of air pressure in relation to the Weissenborn instructions for the performance of the bassoon.

A Selective Lineage of Mexican Bassoonists

Cruz, Jorge, Jr. 08 1900 (has links)
Spanish settlers brought the precursor to the bassoon, el bajón, to Mexico in the late sixteenth century. Documentation of the bassoon was intermittently from the sixteenth century on, the current playing traditions were not established until the second half of the twentieth century. Bassoon education in Mexico flourished in the 1970's because several bassoonists became expatriates, and chose to live and work in Mexico for the entirety of their careers. Two major pedagogues, Lazar Stoychev and Jerzy Lemiszka paved the way for the current Mexican bassoon community. This dissertation presents a selective lineage of bassoonists who have held positions in major Mexican orchestras and universities since the mid-twentieth century. The purpose of this study is to recognize the contributions these players and teachers have given to the bassoon world. In recent years, Mexican bassoonists have commissioned hundreds of works for the bassoon and this significant achievement has placed the Mexican bassoon community in an upward trajectory. To place these players in proper historical context, a brief history of classical music institutions in Mexico since the sixteenth century is given. This dissertation documents the history and pedagogy of recent bassoonists in Mexico via a cohesive family tree.

Fünf Fagottkonzerte

Graun, Johann Gottlieb (?), Reichenauer, Jan Antonín, Horneck, Franz (Jakob) 29 July 2014 (has links)
Jahrhunderts ausweist.

Complications of 20th Century French Basson Music on Modern German Bassoon System

Hayes, Ciarán January 2023 (has links)
The 20th century French repertoire remains some of the most fruitful and varied music written for our instrument. But in fact it was written for another instrument entirely. While these two instruments share the exact same role when it comes to orchestral playing and every other practical sense - under the hood the instruments could not be further apart in terms of mechanics. So how is it that the bassoonist should go about tackling the intricacies of the French Repertoire - which as a whole offer very challenging pieces - when another layer of intricacies is added on top in the fact that it was all written for an entirely different instrument. Through careful and methodical changes to technique and exercises it is possible to alleviate many of the major problems so that they become more manageable. The hope of this paper is that others shall continue their own research into understanding and overcoming some of the shortcomings and complications related to our instrument in hopes that we may continue to build on our established technical and musical foundations.   Keywords: basson, bassoon, alternative fingerings, complications of performance, double tonguing, reed style
