Metropolitan dominance and diffusion of family planning in the PhilippinesSugas-Telionis, Vasso January 1974 (has links)
The impact of metropolitan dominance on the diffusion of family planning in the Philippines was analyzed. Hypotheses based on the diminishing effect urban centers have on knowledge approval and practice of family planning as distance from the metropolitan core increases, size of the local urban center decreases and level of individual cosmopolitanism increases were tested by means of bivariate correlations. In addition the predictive value of these variables was assessed by chi-square and gamma coefficients. The findings indicate, 1) a decreasing linear relationship between metropolitan dominance and the diffusion of family planning variables; 2) a curvilinear relationship between size of local urban center and the diffusion of family planning; 3) a decreasing linear relationship between level of individual cosmopolitanism and the diffusion of family planning. Furthermore, the findings indicate that the distance from the metropolitan core effect is vitiated when the size of the local urban center exceeds the 20,000. However, the distance from the metropolitan core effect is not conditioned by the level of individual cosmopolitanism. / Master of Science

Computer-based parameter visualization and decision making for the detection and prediction of ovulation : the ovulo-computerBermudez, Omar Rodolfo 01 January 1991 (has links)
It is now well accepted by gynecologists that a woman can conceive from an act of intercourse for a maximum of seven days of her menstrual cycle [l]. The reliability of natural family planning methods depends on identifying this window of fertility without ambiguity. Several natural family planning (NFP) methods have been used extensively and with some success. For decades, cycle length and BBT history have been used to forecast the most likely days of ovulation. When greater precision is needed, serum LH assays or ultrasound techniques are used. With the recent development of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, various kits have become commercially available to provide a simple, self-administered, and rapid test for detection of the midcycle urinary LH surge [2]. Some of these methods are fairly reliable and accurate. However, failures in these methods still occur, and some other problems concerning accuracy, simplicity, cost, and comfort have not been solved yet [3]. In addition, other factors in NFP methods, such as the user, the procedure, and others, have been demonstrated to be important sources of errors.

The evaluation of the knowledge and attitudes of the personnel involved in the surgical contraceptive service of the RSASithole, Maureen 19 August 2014 (has links)
M.Cur. (Community Health Nursing Science) / The surgical contraceptive services of any population programme play an extremely important part in the quest to attain the proposed socio-economical health and demographic goals. Being a permanent contraceptive method, the promotion and acceptance of sterilization poses a problem in pro-natalistic communities. This study was aimed at gaining insight into problems, perceptions. knowledge and attitudes of the nurses involved in the National Family Planning programme. In an exploratory, descriptive study, 408 nurses in the RSA partook in a postal survey. The knowledge, attitudes and activities of nurses were assessed. It can be concluded that the attitudes are positive and the level of knowledge very low.

Spousal communication and family planning behavior in Northern Cape, South AfricaDe Gita, Gloria N. January 2007 (has links)
Magister Scientiae - MSc / Spousal communication on issues related to family planning and reproductive health is important in influencing fertility limiting behaviour. In South Africa, studies analyzing the relationship between spousal communication and family planning behaviour are virtually nonexistant. Understanding this relationship is critical for less developed countries where fertility remains at substantially high levels. In most countries, the isolation of men's participation in family planning issues is acknowledged as one of the major causes of poor performance of most family planning programs. In addition, lack of spousal communication about family planning is identified as one of the reasons for low levels of contraceptive use among women. The main objective of this study was to assess spousal communication on contraceptive use and family planning behaviour in three distinct areas in the Richtersveld (Northern Cape) area. / South Africa

Gesinsbeplanning in 'n bevolkingsprogram : 'n beskouing vanuit die Maatskaplike WerkStrydom, Maria Sophia 24 April 2014 (has links)
Ph.D. (Social Work) / The problem stated by the candidate is twofold: * family planning programmes throughout the world have generally been unsuccessful; * the question arises as to whether social workers can contribute to family planning and population programmes and what such contribution should comprise. Family planning organisers are confronted with various problems when initiating a family planning programme and trying to ensure that it will function effectively - identifying the target group in terms of numbers and demographic and social characteristics; motivating the target group towards active participation in the family planning programme; motivation for active participation in the family planning programme by the target group, and maintaining of the contraceptive regimen by those already engaged in the family planning programme. Official statistics and research findings in respect of the first two problems are available in South Africa; no adequate information exists in regard to the latter problem according to which programme organisers can plan and operate. A review of research on family planning and population programmes conducted in South Africa and other countries was undertaken. This includes a study of the findings of various KAP investigations. An empirical investigation was undertaken on an aspect in the field of study of which there is insufficient knowledge - a study that is an individual contribution towards existing knowledge. On numerous occasions in this thesis it becomes evident that social workers, by virtue of their special knowledge, values and skills, can make a unique and professional contribution to the dissemination of family planning. One of the particular skills of the social worker is that of conducting interviews. The social worker also has the ability to motivate people towards change in their behaviour. The social worker can therefore, through personal interviewing, guidance and motivation of people, contribute to the expansion of the population programme in general and the family planning programme in particular...
