Short Message Service (shortly SMS) is the most widely used type of communication systems. The main advantages are that allow a fast exchange of messages between devices, a very good availability through GSM and a reasonable price. Nowadays the SMS service support has expanded to include other technologies such as a service of the information navigation and the remote connection. The master‘s thesis concentrates on the Short Message Service, deals with basic principles and statements using by this service. The topic of the thesis is software PBX Asterisk and its possibility of SMS implementation, especially verification of SMS processing goes through the PSTN. After the basic introduction the master‘s work deals with the installation and configuration of the server. The main focus is on an installation of the operating system with an additional pack including necessary libraries and modules for a correct working of the server. The following section is paying attention to the Asterisk server configuration, especially a hardware card installation which is necessary for a connection with analog telephones, done by Bluetooth connections, set up user’s profiles of the SIP protocol and create a dial plan. This is followed by a verification of SMS option of the implementation and communication with GSM modem which is used as a gate for an exchange SMS between PSTN and GSM network. The last chapter of this master‘s thesis comes with the aimed results.

Following text focuses on use of wireless technologies in OrthoPilot navigation system developed by B.Braun company. Description of OrthoPilot software is followed by overview of available wireless technologies highlighting their both advantages and disadvantages. Practical part consists of two main parts, mostly dealing with electronic circuits. First part describes development process of camera-wireless printed circuit board which substitutes currently used RS-422 cable connection between PC and stereo camera. Part of this chapter covers programming in C++ in order to make interface compatible with the rest of current OrthoPilot software. Second bigger part deals with remote controller development using prototyping board mikroMedia for XMEGA. Besides electrical circuits design, chapter describes also software part - microcontroller programming in C language. Thesis is concluded by discussing system limitations and ideas for future development.

This thesis is focused on obtaining data from a car via the OBDII interface. A successive analysis of the measured values, car sensors, control systems and communication principles between them is done. Basic principles for creating Android mobile applications have been also summarized here. However, the main focus is on designing an application which uses a microcontroller ELM327 to communicate with the electronic systems of a real car. The application shows the obtained data in a form that enables the driver to improve his/her driving habits in terms of fuel economy. The application also demonstrates communication with a car outside of the OBDII standard, in this scenario, by controlling a built-in radio in the car.

La récente émergence des smartphones et des objets connectés a révolutionné le mode de vie des utilisateurs. Ces dispositifs ubiquitaires et équipés de plusieurs interfaces sans fil de communication, sont rapidement devenus indispensables dans la vie quotidienne des utilisateurs avec une utilisation intensive. Les interfaces sans fil de ces objets connectés émettent périodiquement des informations, certaines sont spécifiques aux utilisateurs et permettent par effet de bord d’identifier et de suivre leur déplacements. Le suivi des utilisateurs via les informations fortuitement émises par leurs périphériques sans fil se nomme le Wireless Physical Tracking. Les possibilités offertes par le Wireless Physical Tracking ont suscité un fort intérêt. Plusieurs applications se sont développés et ont permis d’apporter de l’innovation dans plusieurs domaines. Des sociétés de marketing l’utilisent afin de proposer à leurs clients de la publicité ciblée en fonction de leurs parcours dans leur zone d’activité. À une échelle plus grande, les villes intelligentes, ou smart-cities analysent le mouvement des utilisateurs afin d’apporter des services pour le confort des habitants. Enfin, dans le domaine de la recherche, les réseaux Ad-Hoc mobiles et autres DTN nécessitent de s’intéresser à cette pratique car l’étude de la mobilité des utilisateurs représentent un élément clé pour améliorer les performances de ce type de réseau. Cependant, la collecte de ces informations sans le consentement des utilisateurs ou sans qu’elles soient correctement protégées représentent un risque réel pour leur vie privée. C’est autour de ce contexte que s’articule cette thèse divisée en deux parties. La première présente les technologies PAN et WAN, l’état de l’art des méthodes de Wireless Physical Tracking et les contre mesures adoptés. La deuxième partie présentent les contributions de la thèse qui visent à proposer de nouvelles méthodes de suivi, analyser les performances de celles-ci face aux méthodes existantes et dans le cas particulier de l’application de crowd-localisation, à proposer des méthodes de suivi respectueuse de la vie privée. / The recent rise of smart-phones and connected objects has a deep impact its users lifestyle. In 2017, more than a billion and a half smart-phones were sold around the world. These ubiquitous devices, equipped with several wireless communication interfaces, have quickly become essential in the daily life of users with an intensive use. The wireless interfaces of these connected objects periodically transmit information on the network, some of which are user-specific and allow to identify and track their mobility. Tracking users by collecting the information generated by their wireless devices is called Wireless Physical Tracking. The opportunities offered by the Wireless Physical Tracking raised a lot of interest. Several applications have been developed and have brought innovation in several areas. Marketing companies use it to offer to their customers targeted advertising based on their movements in their area of activity. On a larger scale, Smart Cities or smart-cities analyse the movement of users in order to provide services for their inhabitants. Finally, in the field of research in mobile Ad-Hoc networks and DTNs, users mobility is a key element which need to be collected and analysed. However, the collection of this information without the consent of the users or without being properly protected induce a real risk to their privacy. It is around this context that this thesis is focused on. It’s divided into two parts. The first presents the PAN and WAN technologies, the state of the art of Wireless Physical Tracking methods and the adopted counter measures. The second part presents the contributions of the thesis which aims at developing new methods for Physical Tracking and analysing their performances compared to the existing methods. We first present an evaluate BPM, a bluetooth passive monitoring that allows to track the users of Classic Bluetooth device with a detection delay significantly lower than the methods previously used. We then focus on Bluetooth Low Energy and propose the use of a BLEB, a botnet of users tracking BLE objects with their smart-phones. Finally, we also focus on preserving users privacy through the proposal of PPCL, a privacy preserving crowdlocalisation method which allow to track users assets without being trackable.

Bluetooth QoS Scheduler

Bluetooth is a low cost, short-range radio technology that enables electronic devices to communicate wirelessly via ad-hoc networks. Different kinds of applications may run over these networks, some of these applications with particular Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. One such application could for instance be an Audio application which need data frames to be delivered at regular interval to work properly. The communication over Bluetooth links is totally controlled by one of the participating nodes. Since this node controls the traffic and thereby controls the QoS within the network its communicating behaviour is of great importance for maintaining QoS reservations. A central part in maintaining QoS reservations is the scheduler, which prioritises between different tasks to be done such as which device that is allowed to transmit next. There is no standardised way to implement the Bluetooth scheduler. However, a Bluetooth scheduler should be able to handle QoS reservations, maintain fairness among the participating nodes, and utilise the available bandwidth efficiently. Furthermore a key requirement in Bluetooth is simplicity, therefore a Bluetooth scheduling algorithm should be of low complexity. This master thesis presents a new patented solution for an intra-piconet scheduling algorithm that is capable of maintaining QoS reservation, while being fair and also meet the low complexity requirement. This algorithm is presented in detail in the thesis and has been implemented in an ns2- based Bluetooth simulator. Simulations in this simulator are presented that verifies the scheduling algorithms functionality. / Bluetooth är en standard för trådlös ad-hoc kommunikation. Denna standard definierar i antalet noder begränsade nätverk (piconet) som kan kopplas samman till större nätverk (scatternet). Många olika typer av applikationer kan tänkas använda dessa nätverk, vissa av dessa med speciella krav på Quality of Service (QoS). Ett exempel så en dylik applikation är ljudöverföringar som kräver att data överförs med jämna mellanrum för att kunna fungera tillfredställande. Kommunikationen över ett Bluetooth-piconet kontrolleras helt av en av de deltagande enheterna. Eftersom denna enhet kontrollerar trafiken kontrollerar den också upprätthållandet av QoS reservationerna. En central del i detta upprätthållande är schemaläggaren, som är den del i en Bluetoothenhet som prioriterar mellan olika saker som ska utföras. Ett exempel på en sådan prioritering kan vara vilken enhet i nätverket som ska få kommunicera härnäst. Bluetooth standarden beskriver inte hur denna schemaläggare ska implementeras. Grundläggande krav på en Bluetooth schemaläggare är att den ska kunna hantera och upprätthålla QoS reservationer samtidigt som den delar den befintliga kapaciteten på ett rättvist och effektivt sätt mellan de deltagande enheterna. Vidare bör den ha en låg komplexitet eftersom enkelhet är ett krav på alla delar i ett Bluetoothsystem. Detta examensarbete presenterar en ny patenterad algoritm för schemaläggning i begränsade Bluetoothnät som är kapabel att upprätthålla QoS-reservationer, samtidigt som den distribuerar den tillgängliga kapaciteten på ett rättvist sätt. Algoritmen möter också upp till kravet på låg komplexitet. Rapporten innehåller vidare simuleringar av algoritmens funktion, dessa har utförts i en ns2-baserad Bluetooth miljö och verifierar algoritmens funktionalitet.

Bluetooth vs RFID in Time Tracking

Bluetooth and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) are two technologies which are used in lots of contexts today, for example Bluetooth is used for communication between devices and RFID as identification of items at storehouses. This work contains a comparison between those two technologies in a time tracking environment for sports events. To compare the two technologies, a Bluetooth time tracking prototype based on Raspberry Pi 3 and Android Sony Xperia M5 were developed to be compared with a preexisting RFID timing system. The work has been done at Blekinge Institute of Technology in Karlskrona. An agile project form has been used in the work containing a prestudy, development, verification, experimentation and survey phase. The survey focused on smartphones for timing, and the experiments were qualitative. Three of the questions that have been answered during the work are, if Bluetooth could be used in a timing context, what are the difference in reading performance at different speeds and distances. In both unobstructed and blocked Bluetooth can be read at longer distances. Both systems can read tags at 30 kilometers an hour close to the readers. / Bluetooth och Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) är två vanliga teknologier som användsi stor utsträckning idag, till exempel Bluetooth används för bland annat kommunikation mellan enheter, medans RFID används bland anatt för identifiering av objekt i lagerlokaler. Detta arbetet jämför teknologierna utifrån ett tidtagnings perspektiv för olika idrottslopp. För jämförelsen mellan teknologierna utvecklades en Bluetooth tidtagnings prototyp baserat på en Raspberry Pi 3 och en smartphone applikation, och för RFID användes ett redan utvecklat tidtagningssystem. Arbetet har utförts på Blekinge Tekniska Högskola i Karlskrona. Ett iterativt arbetssätt hara nvänts under arbetes gång innefattande en förstudie, utveckling, verifikation, experiment ochen enkätfas. Enkäten fokuserade på smartphones för tidtagning och experimenten som utfördes var av kvalitativ karaktär. Två av forskningsfrågorna som blivit besvarade under arbetet är om Bluetooth kan användas för tidtagning och om det går, vad är skillnaden på prestandan i låga respektive höga hastigheter på olika avstånd? Några av resultaten från arbetet är att i fri sikt kan Bluetooth bli läst på längre avstånd än RFID. Båda systemen kan läsa av taggar upp till 30 kilometer i timmen nära läsaren.

V prvej časti je úvod do bezpečnosti mobilných zariadení a bezpečnostné riziká súvisiace s mobilnými zariadeniami. Sú tu uvedené slabé miesta vo WLAN sieťach a úvod do Bluetooth technológie aj s rizikami. V druhej časti je predstavenie produkčného testovania, ktoré sa využíva u spoločnosti Nokia a popis jednotlivých testov používaných na vyskúšanie funkčnosti zariadení. Rovnako sa v nej nachádza popis architektúry, ktorou sú mobilné zariadenia u spoločnosti Nokia zabezpečené voči rôznym formám útokov viažucim sa na inštalovanie softwaru a testovanie.

Use of legacy and wireless protocols in modern IoT The main goals of this work is implementation of an extension into Inthouse system which will allow remote control of widespread Modbus-enabled devices and creation of an in-house-made simple controller controllable via Bluetooth using simplified JSON RPC protocol and addition of its control support into Inthouse. The next step is to summarize each implementation focusing on its technical complexity and a business potential. This work uncovers interesting details from the implementation and explain causes why such implementation was used in a commercial environment.
