Independent but dependent : An empirical study of the car modification market

Adrian, Sven January 2014 (has links)
A brand can be a valuable asset for a company in two ways: On the one hand the brand can have an influence on the perceptions and preferences of the consumer and therebypositively influence the performance and success of a product, which can lead to acompetitive advantage. On the other hand, a brand can even be an asset of significantfinancial value. For the actual building of a strong brand, several theoretical modelsexist. Car modification companies offer modifications for and modified versions of cars ofother brands. The thereof resulting connection between the two brands and itsconsequences for the brand of the modification company cannot be depicted with theexisting theoretical brand and brand building models. In addition to that, carmodification companies touch upon the field of luxury cars. This factor has to be takeninto consideration when dealing with the brand building of car modification companies. In addition to the lack of applicability of existing brand building models for the carmodification industry, this special industry has not been covered by research yet ingeneral. In this thesis, a theoretical framework for brand building, the model of customer basedbrand equity as well as the characteristics of luxury branding will be lined out. In orderto examine how the special factors of the car modification industry, namely theconnection between the modification company and the base brand and luxury brandingcan be integrated into this model, six representatives from the car modification industryhave been interviewed. The results and analysis of these interviews show that through the assessment of thecustomer based brand equity of the base brand, the modification company can identifystrong and favorable aspects of the base brand that it can build upon, emphasize and/orexpand with the modification as well as weaknesses and flaws of the base brand that itcan make up for with the modification. Furthermore, the examination shows that byassessing the model of customer based brand equity of the modification brand and arelevant special brand factor, in the case of this thesis luxury branding, for commonfeatures and similarities, this special factor can also be integrated into the theoreticalmodel. Through these findings, the thesis is able to present a revised model of customer basedbrand equity that incorporates both the connection between the modification brand andthe base brand as well as the special factor luxury branding.

An experimental study of brand signal quality of products in an asymmetric information environment.

Tsao, Hsiu-Yuan January 2002 (has links)
Previous research regarding the effectiveness of signalling via brand name has focused on when and how any brand-building cost incurred, will be rewarded by future profit. In contrast to this seller-incentive perspective, this study examines how the buyer interprets the signal via brand name, the effectiveness of signalling via brand name in terms of buyer value perspective, and how the buyer's reaction toward the signal impacts on the seller's decision to adopt the signalling strategy. Signalling theory and concepts from consumer-based branding research are used to suggest how to evaluate the effectiveness of signalling via brand name in the context of the consumer market, wherein information is asymmetric. Findings from online trading experiments, using the methodology of experimental economics, demonstrate that the function of brand fluctuates according to which market conditions prevail for brand and price, the extent of brand differentiation, and the magnitude of brand-building cost. This suggests an alternative way to measure the value of a brand to the buyer.

Pajerová, Hedvika January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is the visual identity of the brand Staropramen analysis based on the theory of archetypes applied in marketing science. The theoretical part is focused on the archetypal theories of Jung. He marked twelve archetypes in his work, which include four main categories based on the desire they want to satisfy. The yearning for paradise: The Innocent, The Explorer and The Sage, archetypes that want to leave a thumbprint on the world: The Hero, The Outlaw and The Magician, a group that knows no man or no women is an island: The Regular Guy / Gal also known as The Everyman, The Lover and The Jester, group desiring to provide structure to the world: The Caregiver, The Creator and The Ruler. I focused on the differences between the various archetypes on one desire too, but also the on the theoretical basis of storytelling. I also wrote theoretical basiscs of semiotic analysis and summary of a research realized for my second thesis, focused on marketing communication of Staropramen. In the practical part I analyse the visual identity of the brand Staropramen, that I take apart to single symbols. Their importance I found in sources in the field of heraldry, mythology, botany, psychology and etymology. On the basis of identified associations I do a comparative analysis of the theoretical basis for...

The Brand Building Balancing Act : A study into the internal conflicts and processes of building brand image.

WOLF, VICTORIA, SVENSSON, MARIE January 2014 (has links)
Background: Based on our professional experience supported by evidence from current brand literature, we have identified an on-going struggle for fashion brands when building and communicating brand image internally. Branding is about adding value and which is directly connected to the product itself. Theories support that clear and successful branding creates trust with stakeholders and is therefore important to a company’s profitability. If branding strategies and roles are not defined internally, image become ever more unclear once ideas are to be communicated to customers in store through sales personnel and products. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to explore what hinders companies in the fashion retail industry from profitably and effectively building and communicating brand image internally by identifying potential conflict areas in the value chain in order to provide a tool for overcoming those obstacles. Methodology: A qualitative research method carried through as a case study was conducted containing four interviews with people in key positions at two Swedish fashion retailers. Conclusion: Conclusively we have created a model which explains where and why conflicts occur when it comes to building brand image internally. Where there is a lack of communication between departments it clearly affects the brand image. Companies need to work according to guidelines and communicate amongst departments. / Program: Master Programme in Fashion Management

Furö, Mikael, Johansson, Fredrik January 2012 (has links)

Competence Neworks: Effects on Corporate Branding in B2B SMEs

Schmelz, Lisa, Myscenkaite, Gabriele, Youcefi, Fares January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the effects of competence networks on corporate branding in B2B SMEs and to develop a conceptual model of these effects. After reviewing the relevant literature that explores the field, eight components of corporate branding in an effective growth stage of an SME have been identified. Founders Alliance is a competence network in Sweden that was chosen as a case for our study. Representatives of five B2B SMEs within Founders Alliance were interviewed in order to understand what components of corporate branding the competence network influences. The study shows that even though B2B SMEs join competence networks for other reasons than improving their corporate branding, the corporate branding nonetheless is affected. However, the eight components of corporate branding are affected differently. Competence networks have no effect on three out of eight components of corporate branding, namely, controlling the corporate personality, assuring employees’ involvement and maintaining corporate image. Competence networks have possible effects on emphasizing brand-oriented strategic thinking, maintaining corporate identity and maintaining corporate brand communications. Finally, competence networks have an effect on managing corporate branding relationships and monitoring with feedback.
