Assim, cultura e política não se distinguem quando assumidas como pressupostos de uma esfera pública ou de um espaço de debates sobre os inúmeros projetos nacionais. E como elemento representativo dessas preocupações, a Revista Civilização Brasileira (1965-1968) aparece como um momento importante na afirmação desse espaço, proporcionando um grande número de discussões acerca da literatura, do teatro, do cinema, das artes plásticas e da música produzidos no Brasil. Nesse sentido, tratou-se da produção cultural não apenas pela sua representatividade estética e artística, mas da vinculação da cultura à atividade política e à sua capacidade real de interferência nas estruturas de produção e recepção social de bens culturais. A Revista Civilização Brasileira representa, com seu grupo de colaboradores ¿ entre eles, escritores, jornalistas, cientistas sociais e músicos ¿ este espaço importante a partir do qual se reviram teorias e reformularam-se ideologias que orientaram essa nova condição. Mais que uma revista de idéias, a Revista Civilização Brasileira propiciou debates entre intelectuais e artistas acerca de projetos políticos-culturais e, em nome disso, fez frente ao regime militar e aos seus mecanismos de censura ideológica / Abstract: In way to the transformations cultural and politics, the decurrent structural change them new possibilities for conceiving the cultural production and the activity politics, the 1960¿s represents a particular moment in the intercrossingof these two perspectives. So, culture and politics aren¿t distinguished when placed as estimated from a public sphere or a space of debates on the routes of the national life. And as key element of these concerns, the Revista Civilização Brasileira (1965-1968) appears us as an important moment in the affirmation of this space, keeping a series of quarrels concerning literature, the theater, the cinema, the plastic arts and music. Soon, not representative only aesthetic a cultural production innocuous and artisticly, but an entailed culture to the activity politics and its capacity of social interference. In this way, the Revista Civilização Brasileira represents with its group of collaborators ¿ between them, social scientists, writers, journalists, scientists and musicians ¿ an important and historical representative space for the culture and the politics thought about that period. More than a magazine of ideas, the Revista Civilização Brasileira propitiated debates between intellectuals and artists concerning politician-cultural projects e, in name of this, made front to the military regimen and its mechanisms of ideological censorship / Mestrado / Sociologia / Mestre em Sociologia

Cultures, subcultures, and individuals occupy different positions in the low-context/individualistic and the high-context/collectivistic spectrum, and they shift due to factors such as urbanization, economic development and cultural globalization. In this study, I examine Sérgio Buarque de Holanda's theory of the cordial man and how it illustrates qualities of the high-context Brazilian culture. Within the framework of grounded theory, these qualities are evaluated from the perspective of intergenerational dyads--fathers and sons--that have been exposed to an urbanized and globalized environment in order to determine whether and how a shift from high-context to low-context is occurring. The participants were interviewed to explore perception of self, upbringing, decision-making process within the family, father and son relationships, intrafamilial communication, ways to influence and be influenced, history of conflict, and urbanization and globalization. Their responses revealed the extent to which their values were individualistic or group-oriented and if the cordial man behavior was also present in the intimacy of their homes. In sum, I reach three conclusions: technological and cultural globalization propagates low-context values and behaviors; sons are in a transitional state, in which individual goals are relevant enough to challenge parental expectations, but still cause guilt when pursued; and, the cordial man still exists in the urban and globalized world. Implications for families, family therapists, counselors and mediators are discussed.

Songs and drum beats from Campinas and Guaratinguetá, São Paulo counties, will be used, as well, as a source for studying the politics of identity among their practicioners and their respective communities / Mestrado / Historia Social / Mestre em História
