Construction small and medium enterprise development

Mbambe, Putumani January 2016 (has links)
The objective of this treatise study was to determine the leading causes which limit the development of SMME contractors, to ascertain the accessibility of SMME incubators available to support SMME development and to identify the cause of poor management performance by SMME contractors based in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality. A qualitative method was adopted for this study. The primary data was collected using a structured interview guide which incorporated the sub problems and the research questions. The salient findings of this study are: SMME contractors are unaware of the available business information and government support programmes designed to assist them; SMME contractors do not receive capital from banks when they don‟t have collateral; Desperation to secure projects among SMME contractors is the leading cause for under-pricing; SMME contractors are still paid later than the 30 day period for completed work; SMME owners who had started their construction companies lacked training and do not have the relevant experience and knowledge required to manage a construction company. In summary the study concluded that SMME who have access to capital have high growth prospects than those that have not. Accessibility to information and awareness of available opportunities remains significant for the growth of SMMEs. Construction related knowledge and training for SMME owners contributes vastly to the success of SMME companies. The study recommended that; Government needs to promote the accessibility of SMME incubators and ensure institutions designed to assist SMMEs with finance are accessible; The effectiveness of current development programs for small enterprises and skills development programs should be reviewed; MMBM should setup a mentoring program to help train SMME contractors theoretically and practically; NMBM local government should promote women to own SMMEs in order to close the gap of inequality in the built environment; Banks must work with government institutions to ensure that they are able to fund SMMEs.

Visionen om en blandstad : Förnyelseprojekt och deras påverkan i utvalda svenska miljonprogramsområden

Elsakka, Meryam, Citaku, Valona January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of the thesis is to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the innovative development that takes place in connection with renewal projects in Swedish million program areas. The areas selected for the study are Råslätt in Jönköping, northeastern Gårdsten in Gothenburg, Drottninghög in Helsingborg and Karlslund in Landskrona with a focus on the Pilängen sub-area. The thesis is based on a qualitative content analysis with a hermeneutic scientific approach. The analysis is based on specific selected detailed plans for each area and the theoretical framework combines Edward Harris and Chauncy Ullman's theory of the multi-core model, Erik Clark's perspective on gentrification, Jane Jacobs' urban design theory which includes central concepts such as primary and secondary functions and the concept of “eyes on the street” and Jan Gehl's work Life Between Buildings, which includes “Gehl's three types of activities” and his perspective on safe environments. The results of the survey indicate that the planned changes that have been made visible in the plan proposals mainly have a striving for a sustainable and mixed city. But we can also conclude that there is a form of gentrification process going on that may include a generation of the development of the existing character of the million program areas into a more attractive district area.

New Space Organization And Development Alternatives In Metu-tech (metu Technopolis)

Ekiz, Cem 01 January 2006 (has links) (PDF)
The analysis of METU-Technopolis buildings and their space organizations indicates that there are two kinds of designing and planning tendencies in METU-Tech. One of them is Northern European and other one is North American Type of office which are also known as two important office designing approaches in the world. Northern European and North American Type of office organizations have different approaches in shaping office space. While Northern European type places far more emphasis on using office space to support staff morale and thus to add value to organizational performance, North American type tends to overestimate cost minimizations. These two types of designing tendencies in the world have had enormous effects on METU-Tech building design. While some buildings like Silicon Block and Silver block give importance to functions in space, and cost minimizations, others like Twin Building gives more importance to space quality and occupancy needs. The aim of this study is to introduce these two different kinds of office design approaches in METU-Technopolis by examining Silicon Block, Silver Block and Twin buildings. These buildings have been examined in three main scales which begin with urban design scale, Macro-Scale development, then Middle-Scale development and finally Micro-Scale development and buildings activities in architectural scale. In macro scale, Urban Design Studio&rsquo / s METU-Tech workings, and in middle- micro scale, advantages and disadvantages of these two space organizations manner have been introduced in detail on Silicon Block, Silver Block and Twin Building. Furthermore, all these three building&rsquo / s statistical information, capacities, and design specifications have been presented in drawings, graphics, and photos.

Nepostavené Brno Historie a perspektivy nedokončených urbanistických záměrů v městě Brně / Brno Unbuilt History and Perspectives of Largest Urban Projects in Brno

Bureš, David Unknown Date (has links)
During the movement of the city of Brno, we can perceive a series of fragments, stop unfinished urban visions. To greater or lesser extent affect the current appearance of the city and causing relationships or processes we do not understand. By understanding the original concept we can grab those sites again and meaningfully work with them. The subject of this thesis became a trio of locations - náměstí Míru (Peace Square), Akademické náměstí (Academic Square) and the area of Kraví hora (Cow Mountain). In these parts of the city we can reveal fragments of unfinished projects. They are joined together by imaginary storyline of campus construction of Czech universities in the 20s and 30s of the last century. That was the key, but not the only one, factor in shaping the form of these public spaces. The aim of the research is to analyze the historical context of the development of built-up areas affecting the monitored sites. Define the basic concept of spatial composition and analysis resulting of the functional and spatial arrangement. The model of the interwar form was confronted with the present state of the monitored area and also subjected to detailed analysis in terms of form, function and operation. The essential aim of this research was insertion plan of the period to the contemporary model of the structure of Brno and verification broader spatial and operational relationships with the help of animation and simulation of human movement with the site. The results can serve as stimuli state authorities for further working with these sites, as well as for urban practice.

Tůma, František January 2019 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the construction project of the outbound base of the emergency medical service in Zabreh na Morave. More specifically, this thesis deals with the study of the development of the building, the technological regulation for the flat roof, and the subsequent chapters - design and assessment of the lifting mechanism, optimal design of the building site, timetable, itemized budget, control and test plan, etc. An interesting point is the simulation of the construction, where a 3D model and a video are created. The thesis is based on a borrowed documentation of the project.
