Directional Comparison Bus Protection Using Superimposed Partial Operating Current CharacteristicsBaral, Bishwas 23 May 2019 (has links)
Various directional comparison bus protection methods including widely used superimposed directional element method need to have both voltages and currents from all feeders connected to the zone of protection to find the direction of current for detecting a bus fault or a line fault. The purpose of the thesis is to present a new technique for directional comparison bus protection to discriminate a bus fault from line fault and normal condition. The new technique, which is implementing superimposed directional element method to modify partial operating current characteristics (POC) method to superimposed POC (SPOC) method, does not use voltages from feeders, hence capacitor voltage transformers (CVTs) are no longer needed in the zone of protection. The proposed technique was implemented in 4-bus and IEEE 14-bus test system and was tested using different fault cases including CT saturation and high impedance fault. The proposed technique, SPOC method was compared with POC method with both methods implemented in same test systems and tested with same fault cases. The results show that the proposed technique is successful to detect bus faults with high accuracy and high speed.

Modelování a simulace elektromechanických přechodných jevů v elektrizační soustavě / Modelling and Simulations of Electromechanical Transients is Electrical Power SystemsGromotovič, Ivan January 2020 (has links)
This work deals with the issue of evaluating transient stability in the simulation program PSCAD. Factors affecting transient stability were analyzed on a single-machine SMIB model. The results of this analysis confirmed the theoretical assumption that for more accurate results of the analysis of transient stability, it is necessary to consider the mentioned factors. A short circuit was simulated on the IEEE9 test model and subsequently the load angles of the generators were monitored using various methods. The method of reference of the largest generator in the system proved to be a more suitable method for the assessment of relative load angles from the results of the analysis.

Implementing mass transit: a case study of the CyRide system in Ames, Iowa and its implications for mass transit in Manhattan, KansasZevenbergen, Philip G. January 1900 (has links)
Master of Regional and Community Planning / Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning / John W. Keller / The purpose of this document is to use an existing transit system as the standard by which another community can model their own. It begins with the discussion of a brief history of mass transit in the United States—focusing on the detail that competing automobile manufacturers began the demise of transit ridership in this nation. As the 1950s came to a close, the nation’s transit systems saw the peak of ridership. However, the post-war era brought about massive
suburbanization and more automobiles per household. The American no longer needed to ride transit, except for those still living in the dense urban cores of cities like New York City. The document moves into the discussion of the fundamentals of mass transit. It explains the importance of population base, ridership, and funding. Depending on the type of system, a minimum population base is recommended in order to support the proper system. Ridership is a
key focus of transit, for without it, a community is just wasting resources. Finally, funding is very important. No transit system can support itself on fares alone and still remain a viable alternative to the automobile. Transit systems must procure funding from a variety of sources
including all levels of government in order to obtain sufficient revenue to operate successfully. The heart of the document focuses on the CyRide bus system in Ames, Iowa—serving the Ames community and Iowa State University since 1976. CyRide is a special system in that it serves a total population of only 54,000, but sees an annual ridership of 5 million. Their success
is based on a longstanding relationship with the community complimented by staff that posses the passion to ensure the highest quality service day-in and day-out. This report discusses the fine details of how that system functions on all levels. The document concludes with the discussion of Manhattan, Kansas—a city with approximately the same population as Ames, and is home to Kansas State University, which as approximately the same student enrollment as Iowa State. Manhattan currently does not have a transit system, but is seeking to implement one in the coming years. The overall intent of this report is to draw conclusions based on the performance of CyRide and provide recommendations to the City of Manhattan regarding the implementation and operation of a transit system.

CONTINGENCY ANALYSIS OF POWER SYSTEMS IN PRESENCE OF GEOMAGNETICALLY INDUCED CURRENTSVijapurapu, Sivarama Karthik 01 January 2013 (has links)
Geomagnetically induced currents (GIC) are manifestations of space weather phenomena on the electric power grid. Although not a new phenomenon, they assume great importance in wake of the present, ever expanding power grids. This thesis discusses the cause of GICs, methodology of modeling them into the power system and the ramifications of their presence in the bulk power system. GIC is treated at a micro level considering its effects on the power system assets like Transformers and also at a macro level with respect to issues like Voltage instability. In illustration, several simulations are made on a transformer & the standard IEEE 14 bus system to reproduce the effect of a geomagnetic storm on a power grid. Various software tools like PowerWorld Simulator, SimPower Systems have been utilized in performing these simulations. Contingency analysis involving the weakest elements in the system has been performed to evaluate the impact of their loss on the system. Test results are laid out and discussed in detail to convey the consequences of a geomagnetic phenomenon on the power grid in a holistic manner.

[en] MOBILITY IN THE CITY OF RIO DE JANEIRO: A SURVEY TO IDENTIFY REASONS TO EITHER USE OR NOT THE BUS SYSTEM, WITH EMPHASIS ON BRT / [pt] MOBILIDADE NA CIDADE DO RIO DE JANEIRO: UMA PESQUISA PARA IDENTIFICAR OS MOTIVOS PARA USAR OU NÃO O SISTEMA DE ÔNIBUS, COM ÊNFASE NO BRTMIGUEL DE FREITAS CHRISTINO 06 February 2018 (has links)
[en] The population of rural areas is retracting, making urban population continually grow. Taking advantage of the increased demand, speculators seek to maximize gains increasing the rent value of the property. The most widespread pursuit for attractive rents creates geographic differences in proportion to the intensity of investments, often ensuring that regions with an abundance of capital become richer while the poor become relatively poorer (Harvey, 2004). Especially in the city of Rio de Janeiro, where the economic and financial area is concentrated, this unfortunate population that increasingly is being removed from the center and the South Zone, is subject to long commutes to work. Combined with the problem of increasing distances, the public transit is inadequate, stingy and without quality, both in terms of comfort, and in relation to security, exposing its users extremely long terms, exhausting and dangerous journeys. Given these conditions, the least unfortunate opt for private transport, increasing traffic, reducing the average speed, while reducing the rationale and the financial viability of the public transit system - and thus also potentially reducing the mobility of those who depend this system (Massey, 1991). In other words, the time-space expansion pushes the neediest population away from opportunities, from the possibility of studying, and ultimately restricts social mobility. The public transit is the most rational and efficient way to move people from long and medium distances in medium and large urban centers. Even if the public transportation by bus (SPPO in Portuguese) is fed at the ends by other modals, whether they are not motorized or automobiles, it should be fast, reliable, safe, inexpensive and minimally comfortable, and these characteristics should be intensified the greater is the volume of use. Public transport suffers from acute and chronic shortages in Brazilian cities in general. The inefficiency of bus services and the inadequacy of rail transport have a severe impact on the so-called Brazilian Cost.

Previous issue date: 2011-12-15 / This paper focuses public bus service as an essential component to urban dynamics
in Natal, RN. Thereby, the approach of public bus service in Natal City, capital of Rio
Grande do Norte State, has as analytical category the concept of territory used, in
which techniques are seen as space elements allowing man and nature interact
together. The result of this interaction, systematically analyzed in different historical
phases, makes space to a geographical assessment of the theme. On a second
moment, it is investigated how public bus system came to be and how it functions
today in Natal City. In this sense, this paper looks for the main elements that
contributed to explain the subject under investigation. For example, how public bus
service has accompanied Natal s socio-spatial changes, and eventually, the use of
territory carried out in the context of public bus system. These questions are
highlighted in this paper because they play a fundamental role to an explanation
about public bus circulation, urban vehicle policies and how they affect the use of
territory nowadays.
abordagem geogr?fica do tema proposto.
