Dessa maneira, examina a formação e os critérios de seleção de antologias em ambas as culturas literárias e analisa estratégias e abordagens para a tradução de poesia. Para concluir, discute três dos poetas e os poemas escolhidos para o projeto, bem como o processo tradutório e o resultado. / With the aim of creating a new anthology in English of canonical and contemporary Brazilian poetry from 1922 to the present day, this thesis investigates both the Brazilian poetic canon and the cross-cultural Anglo-Brazilian poetic canon. It examines the formation and selection criteria of anthologies in both literary cultures, and strategies and approaches for poetry translation. Finally it discusses three of the poets and their poems chosen for the project, analyses the translations, and evaluates the finished product.

A fim de entender como se formou o vínculo entre os dois países, mostramos, em um primeiro momento, aspectos de questões culturais, sociais e econômicas que unem o Brasil e a Itália através dos séculos. Posteriormente, pautados no banco de dados da UNESCO, o Index Translationum, que reúne as publicações de seus países-membros, faremos um mapeamento das obras italianas traduzidas no Brasil e das obras brasileiras traduzidas na Itália. Os dados extraídos serão classificados em nove diferentes seções, conforme estabelece o próprio Index Translationum. A abordagem teórica adotada é a Teoria dos Polissistemas, de Itamar Even-Zohar, justamente por ser pioneira em compreender os movimentos constantes do sistema literário em ligação com outros sistemas. Em vista disso, contextualizamos o cenário em que nasce a teoria de Even-Zohar dentro dos Estudos da Tradução e sua contribuição para a área. A observação dos dados presentes no Index Translationum seguirá os princípios polissistêmicos e buscará esclarecer as distinções editoriais entre Brasil e Itália, mas, sobretudo, nos ajudarão a descobrir qual o papel da literatura traduzida no sistema literário nacional e, em especial modo, como obras canônicas circulam nesses dois países.<br> / Abstract : This thesis aims at presenting the literary exchanges between Brazil and Italy from 1977 to 2007, with a view to understanding what literary canon emerges from this relationship. In order to understand how the relation between the two countries was constituted, we analyzed the cultural, social and economic issues that unite Brazil and Italy over the centuries. After that, through the UNESCO database, Translationum Index, which brings the publications of its country members, we will map Italian pieces of work translated in Brazil and Brazilian pieces of work translated in Italy. Data will be classified into nine different sections, according to the Translationum Index: from Religion and Theology to Natural and Exact Sciences, from Philosophy and Psychology to Law, Social Sciences and Education. The theoretical approach used is the polysystem theory, proposed by the Israeli researcher Itamar Even-Zohar, for being a pioneer in understanding the regular movements of the literary system connected to other systems. In view of this, we contextualize the scenario where Even-Zohar's theory is born within the Translation Studies and its contribution to the area. The observation of the data in the Translationum Index will follow the polysystemic principles and will seek to identify the editorial differences between Brazil and Italy, but above all, it will help us unveil the role of the translated literature in the national literary system. Among the nine classifications of the Translationum Index, we will focus on the "Literature" section to understand the forms of the canon layout in the translated literature and its forms of representation as well.
