Evaluating the preaching in the emerging church in light of traditional expositional preaching: are the homiletical model(s) in the emerging church different than that of the traditional expositional preaching in the evangelical church and are they any more successful in addressing the need of post-modern Christians?

Purdy, Charles Michael 09 1900 (has links)
Many Emerging Church preachers claim the Bible is not viewed the same way it once was. Consequently ministers need to rethink some aspects of how they go about preaching and communicating. Emerging Church preachers argue that Christianity must develop a new way of describing, defining, and defending the gospel. The aim of this study is to answer the question: To what extent, if any, is preaching in the Emerging Church different than that of traditional expositional preaching in the Evangelical Church and how does one compare with the other as far as success in addressing the needs of post-modern Christians? Chapter one gives a brief introduction of the Emerging Church movement by briefly defining and describing the diverse movement (EC movement) that arose within Protestant Christianity due to a reaction to modernism in Western Christianity. Chapter two provides a literature study where definitions of both preaching styles are considered – emerging style(s) and expository preaching. Included with the emerging preaching style(s) and expositional preaching will be characteristics comprising these styles. Chapter three (methodology) consists of charts, definitions, and descriptions comparing both the modern and postmodern movement through their characteristics and values, purposes for the movements, and homiletics of the movements.Chapter four, "Findings From of The Comparisons From The Two Models of Preaching" consists of the results found from the research. Chapter five, "Conclusions Of Preaching For The Two Models Of Preaching" will consist of a critical analysis of the homiletics in both the Emerging Church and the Traditional Evangelical Church. Chapter six, "Expository Preaching In the Traditional Evangelical Church For Post-Modern Christians" will offer a model as a proposal on how to effectively preach to the postmodern congregation. Chapter seven contains concluding remarks concerning the effectiveness of the traditional expository preaching compared with the emerging dialogical/storytelling preaching for postmodern Christians. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / D. Comparing Software Libraries

Caroline, Millgårdh January 2013 (has links)
When building an application, native or web-based, you can be faced with the dilemma of finding an external library that will fit your needs. This thesis investigates the problem from a commercial viability standpoint. A new Compliance Reporting System needed a chart library to create appealing dashboards and reports. The aim of the thesis was to develop a generic method for finding, comparing and testing software libraries. The method was developed making use of multiple phases which were then applied to different chart libraries for the Compliance Reporting System. The devised method did not result in the desired outcome of finding a library for the Compliance Reporting System. It did, however, contain a number of successful steps. The first set of prerequisites was used to define relevant search terms. The second set of prerequisites reduced the selection of libraries. The adaptability tests examined the APIs. It was also found that the quality of documentation and public interface of the library can influence the possibility of successful utilization. Testing the extendibility would also have been beneficial. As for chart libraries in general, a lexicon of standardized terminology would be of great benefit.

Estudo da avaliação ambiental estratégica no Brasil em perspectiva comparada / Comparative study for strategic environmental assessment in Brazil

Priscila de Almeida Oppermann 28 February 2012 (has links)
The insertion of environmental issues in decision-making has been a challenge in many countries. Therefore, Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), an instrument that aims to embed environmental issues in the planning of policies, plans and programs, has now been consolidated and increasingly practiced in the international arena, including developing countries, like Brazil. In this context, this dissertation compares the current status of SEA in Brazil in relation to the situation presented in Mexico, Spain, England and South Africa. A qualitative comparative method, which evaluated each system based on descriptive categories and their criteria was used for the analysis. The categories selected to characterize the SEA systems were formal/legal, administrative/institutional, academic/conceptual and practical/applied. The results have showed that the SEA systems studied present different patterns of development and evolution along time. South Africa, Mexico and Brazil have showed evidence of different practical experiences and also institutional interests, which have motivated the formal reception of this instrument in those countries. However they still present some gaps in relation to formal and institutional structure of SEA, which affect their practical experience. On the other hand, despite some limitations, the SEA systems of Spain and England are more structured and developed, providing empirical evidence of the relevance of institutional and academic spheres to their development. In general, the comparison conducted in this research has showed that there exist different system formats to SEA, depending on the country or context in which it is applied.

Koncepce Intermarium v současné geopolitice / Intermarium concept in contemporary geopolitics

Stonis, Danylo January 2019 (has links)
This work is trying to establish and answer three questions about the concept of Intermarium: Which concepts of the Intermarium that were formed in the past, are still relevant in modern geopolitical circumstances? What political conditions force the country to become a potential participant of the Intermarium? What minimal number of countries is sufficient enough for membership in the Intermarium to provide its effective activity in the political arena? The questions are answered through the implementation of a comparative method. The chosen method is applied to the selected states of the specified region on the basis of two selected cases that correspond to analogical situations in the history of these countries and resulted in the birth of the concept of the Intermarium as one of the possibilities for solving the political crisis in the historical period, which is chosen for the case. This work with case studies will allow the researcher to obtain a high level of conceptual validity as well as to evaluate the indicators that fully explain the theoretical concepts. Since certain internal and external factors such as political system, political culture, state power, economic independence, defensive capabilities, cultural and historical mentality, membership in international organizations are...

The Underlying Factors Contributing to a Lack of Social Acceptance Against the Sexual and Gender Minorities: A Comparative Study Between South Korea and Japan

Camilia, El Sayed January 2019 (has links)
In this thesis I am putting the sexual and gender minorities in South Korea and Japan under the limelight. I am discussing the topic of LGBT social acceptance, and the connection between the level of social acceptance and how the sexual and gender minorities have been perceived through history, and are currently being perceived within the law, culture and religion, politics, and Socio-economic areas in South Korea and Japan. In both countries there is still a visible lack of social acceptance towards LGBT persons, and the hypothesis of this paper is that all of the factors contributing to that outcome, except for religion, are evidently similar. The aim is to analyze and show the connection between these factors and how the sexual and gender minorities are viewed and treated, as well as to compare the outcome in respective country and discuss the similarities and differences.
