Taxation, risk-taking and growth: a continuous-time stochastic general equilibrium analysis with labor-leisure choice.

Kenc, Turalay January 2004 (has links)
No / This paper investigates the equilibrium relationship between taxation, portfolio choice (risk-taking) and capital accumulation. Specifically, it examines how taxes affect risk-taking and capital accumulation. We extend the existing literature by relaxing two crucial assumptions in modelling risk-taking behavior: (i) that the investment opportunity set is fixed and (ii) that there is no distinction between attitudes towards risk and behavior towards intertemporal substitution. We extend the investment opportunity set of individuals through optimally determined human capital; and distinguish intertemporal substitution from attitudes towards risk via a recursive utility function. In the presence of these extensions, the paper successfully derives a closed-form solution to the stochastic growth model with stochastic wage income.

New socioespaciais storage compartments are constructed and imposed by the sugarcane agribusiness capital in the country. This process of transformation of sugarcane agroindustrial capital space began in the 16th century, in the Northeast, with the deployment of the first machines and expanded to the South-Central region in the 19th and 20th centuries. The sugar economy was, for a few centuries, the main economic base of the country. The price paid for this model of development was too big because it caused negative social and environmental effects. Biomes were destroyed to make way for sugar cane. The sugarcane sector experienced periods of high and low production due to the crisis that was present in this sector of brazilian agriculture. The crisis faced in the 17th century was responsible for the decline of the sugar economy. In these times of crisis, the State has benefited this sector by releasing large amounts of money in the form of loans. This expansion of the sugar cane in Brazil resulted in a migration of workers to process the cane-cutting activity in agribusiness canavieiras in various regions of the country. In this order, we want to understand the social effects on the lives of workers who migrate in the Northeast region of the country to the municipality of Capinópolis (MG) to this activity of cutting sugar cane in the period of 2003 to 2014. In 2008, the sugar industry is shaken by the global crisis with direct reflections in the sector because it has reduced the demand for sugar and ethanol, triggering the breakdown of various agribusiness canavieiras and the consequent dismissal of thousands of workers according to industry Union of sugar cane. In Minas Gerais, João Lyra group entered bankruptcy decreed by the Judge of Alagoas, where the headquarters of the João Lyra. With this decision, all units of the Group were closed. The sugar cane do Paranaíba Valley drive, in the municipality of Capinópolis (MG), was one of the ones who closed the doors. The closing of this agroindustry reflexes straight into the lives of workers who exercised activities in cane cutting in this company.

A reexamination of the past in search of new and more detailed data on the historical situation of African and native-born workers—enslaved, freed, and free, who were active in the formation of a labor market to meet the demands of an industrial capitalist economy that was gaining a specific form due to the economic expansion that occurred in Rio de Janeiro in the last decades of the nineteenth century. In sum, this research can be defined in this way. We find traces of the expectations of a segment of the propertied elite that had diversified itself by investing in the industrial sector; about the social meanings of work prior to the formation of a class of free and salaried laborers (which hindered forms of diverse labor relations and fully structured in the logic forged in the conditions of slavery); about the impact of the spread of the practice of wage earning and professional status in an environment in which most men and women worked in coercive working conditions; about private social dramas lived by some facing new socioeconomic formulas that formatted noteworthy aspects within a slave society. These traces organize this thesis, revealing details of a transitional situation in a context of social relations that gave way to new working relationships.
