Objetiva-se de modo geral, analisar, por meio de história oral de vida e história oral temática, práticas em defesa da Educação realizadas por Manoel do Carmo, integrante dos movimentos sociais de Gurupá, Marajó, Pará. A finalidade foi compreender seus sentidos político e pedagógico no contexto da Região Amazônica. Como objetivo específico, pretendemos: 1) Entender o lugar da educação na história dos movimentos sociais na Amazônia; 2) Investigar o papel de Manoel do Carmo em defesa da educação e construir a história de vida de Manoel do Carmo; 3) Descrever as práticas de Manoel do Carmo em defesa da educação; e 4) Analisar os resultados dessas práticas para identificar seus sentidos político e pedagógico. A pesquisa foi norteada pelas seguintes questões: 1) Quais as contribuições dos movimentos sociais do campo para o avanço da educação na Amazônia? 2) Como a história de vida de um intelectual orgânico dos movimentos sociais na Amazônia se articula com a educação? 3) Em que medida a história de vida de Manoel do Carmo, membro dos movimentos sociais, se articula com a própria história da Amazônia e explica os avanços da educação na região? Teoricamente, o estudo se pautou na concepção de intelectual orgânico segundo Gramsci, na Nova História, História Vista de Baixo. Metodologicamente, trabalhamos com Memória, História Oral de Vida e História Oral temática. Utilizamos como fontes: documentos recolhidos no município de Gurupá, dados de um memorial escrito por Manoel do Carmo e dados de entrevistas semiestruturadas. Após a análise, foi possível constatar que a vida de Manoel do Carmo está indelevelmente articulada às lutas sociais do Município de Gurupá, vinculadas aos trabalhadores do campo. A estrutura social de Gurupá, com suas instituições econômicas e políticas, conformada a partir do fim da Ditadura Militar não pode ser pensada sem a importante atuação de Manoel do Carmo. Ele é protagonista, em particular, da organização escolar e oportunidades educacionais dos jovens do campo de Gurupá. / This dissertation investigates Manoel do Carmo 's life history and its relation with the education history of the Gurupá Rural Family House of the Municipality of Gurupá - PA. The objective is to analyze, through oral history of life and oral history, practices in defense of Education carried out by Manoel do Carmo, a member of the social movements of Gurupá, Marajó, Pará, to understand their political and pedagogical senses In the context of the Amazon Region. As a specific objective, we aim to: 1) Understand the place of education in the history of social movements in the Amazon. 2) Investigate the role of Manoel do Carmo in defense of education and build the life story of Manoel do Carmo. 3) Describe the practices of Manoel do Carmo in defense of education. 4) Analyze the results of these practices to identify their political and pedagogical senses. The questions that guided the investigation are: 1) What are the contributions of rural social movements to the advancement of education in the Amazon? 2) How does the life story of an organic intellectual of social movements in the Amazon articulate with education? 3) To what extent does the life history of Manoel do Carmo, a member of the social movements, articulate with the history of the Amazon and explain the progress of education in the region? Theoretically, the study is based on the conception of organic intellectual according to Gramsci, in the New History, History Vista de Baixo. Methodologically, we work with Memory, Oral History of Life and Oral History. We used as sources: documents collected in the municipality of Gurupá, data from a memorial written by Manoel do Carmo and data from semi-structured interviews. It was possible to verify that the life of Manoel do Carmo is indelibly articulated to the social struggles of the Municipality of Gurupá, linked to the workers of the field. The social structure of Gurupá, with its economic and political institutions, conformed from the end of the Military Dictatorship can not be thought without the important performance of Manoel do Carmo. He is the protagonist, in particular, of the school organization and educational opportunities of young people in the Gurupá camp.
