Environment Setting¡BExecution Procedure and Interaction Model for Conducting Effective Online Office HourShih, Sheng-Chieh 02 August 2004 (has links)
Interaction is very important to all kind of education, including traditional face-to-face classroom lecture and e-Learning. Numerous attempts have been made by researchers to propose some asynchronous interaction methods. Only few studies have so far been made at synchronous ones. Synchronous Office Hour has recently brought to light by some researches. But so far the study of the know-how to conduct it effectively for teachers and students has never been examined. The aim of this paper is to explore the know-how.
This research adopts Case Study to collect and analyze representative unique case from NSYSU Cyber University. The case is representative because of the sophisticated teacher, diverse interaction model and enthusiastic discussion. Data collection includes participant observation, deep open interviews, text records, video records, asynchronous board and electronic documents. Data analysis is based on three steps, including pick up key words from different data sources, reorganize the relation of key words and coding. We not only build initial Office Hour framework but also formula the environment setting, execution procedure and interaction model for conducting effective online Office Hour. The most important addition to be made is the value of Synchronous Office Hour to teachers and students.

Then, researcher will use Qualitative Research method to analyse those data to extract all the situations including the phenomena, processes, and events which our subjects have experienced during the internet online live videoconferencing activities. We wanted to discover the sequences and relations among them and to reconstruct the online activity processes and find out the possible solutions. Finally, we proposed the Concrete processes, and feasible recommendations about guidelines and management of online live videoconferencing activities in this thesis. The Design of the Balance Scorecard Applied to the Carming Education Enterprise¡ÐA Case of Tung-Hsin Educational Enterprise AllianceChiu, Shih-fen 25 July 2007 (has links)
Educational polices have been changing ever since 1993. With low birth rate and more and more cram schools, the competition in the field of cram school business has become even more intense. Hence, how to elevate the management and efficiency of operating a cram school so as to maintain its competitiveness and sustainability is the top priority for cram school runners.
In this study, I adopted case study method, by studying the Ping-tong branch of Tung-hsin educational enterprise alliance. I observed and probed into the current status of its operation, analyzed the conditions of its location with SWOT, examined its marketing strategies tactically, and assayed each of the four divisions in AHP while adopting the case into balance scorecard.
The result was as follows: through the analysis of SWOT, the studied case is in an advantageous position for having operated for years; however, now it is also threatened by ever-changing educational policies and low birth rate. After interviewing and discussing with the management as well as the staff, I set a goal for each division in the balance scorecard --- financial affairs, customers, interior procedures, and growth. Afterwards, the ¡§Strategy Map¡¨ of the studied case was drawn by connecting the strategy goals with potential causes and efficiency. Eventually, through the introduction of questionnaires that involve Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), five conclusions were made:
I.Under the consideration of the balance scorecard and working capital, the financial division of using valid estate and monitoring cost strictly is the top priority to attend to.
II.Under the consideration of financial affairs, the first priority to attend to is capital. While increasing market share and elevating profits, operators pay a lot more attention to controlling the capital.
III.Under the consideration of customers, the first priority to attend to is outstanding counseling efficiency. Distinguished counseling efficiency can help cram schools obtain trust from parents and public praises.
IV.Under the consideration of interior procedures, the first priority to attend to is great teaching materials. Teaching material is not only a tool but also the image of a cram school. Great teaching material can help boost competitiveness.
V.Finally, under the consideration of growth, the first priority to attend to is enthusiastic staff. The most significant things are allowing lecturers and staff to learn and interact with one another, encouraging the staff to participate in the operation, and giving them sufficient space to express their ideas.

Integrating Critical Thinking Skills Into Planning And Implementation Of Teaching Turkish: A Comparative Case Study Of Three TeachersTurkmen Dagli, Melek 01 February 2008 (has links) (PDF)
This study aimed to investigate how teachers integrated the development of students' / critical thinking skills into their teaching during the three major phases of their teaching, namely, their planning practices, interactive practices, and reflective practices and to evaluate the influence of their instruction as felt by students in fourth grade Turkish course. The study was conducted as a comparative case study in which three teachers from three different primary schools participated. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and their students, logs written by students and documents. The findings of the study indicated that, in the planning stage, factors such as autonomy, methodological stance and relevance played a role on the level of teachers' / incorporation of critical thinking into the process. In the lessons, their classroom climate and management, perception of their realm of influence, their approach to challenge and tendency to create a common frame of reference were found to have an effect on the ways their students were involved in critical thinking processes. Furthermore, metacognitive skills and critical reading skills, together with others, were addressed by teachers in different ways. In their reflection, the way they referred to the strengths and weaknesses of their lessons and the way they evaluated their students' / learning as well as their discrimination of thinking concepts and the ways they dealt with assumptions underlying students' / reasoning involved elements revealing their approach to critical thinking. Among students, some interactive patterns, curiosity and interest constituted the factors that motivated students to think critically.

Evaluation Of The Writing Component Of An English Languageteaching Program At A Public University:a Case StudyCoskun, Abdullah 01 June 2011 (has links) (PDF)
This study has the main objective of evaluating the effectiveness of the writing component of the program applied at the Department of Basic English (DBE) and the Department of Modern Languages (DML) at Middle East Technical University (METU) in the 2010-2011 academic year in terms of program objectives, materials and content,
teaching-learning process and the assessment of the writing skills. The opinions of the DBE and DML instructors, program coordinators and students as well as the content course instructors at different departments at METU were mainly obtained via questionnaires and interviews. The data collected via the questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS 15 while the analysis of all the qualitative data was done though content analysis.
The results of the questionnaires indicated that the writing components of the program at the DBE and the DML were generally effective as for the dimensions of the programs as specified in the research questions from the perspective of instructors and students. However, the qualitative data revealed participants&rsquo / suggestions for the improvement of the existing writing programs at both departments. Some of the major conclusions that can be drawn from DBE students&rsquo / and instructors&rsquo / suggestions are as follows: There is a need to switch the focus from discourse-level writing to more freewriting practices through more student-centered activities / the materials should be more visually attractive / the assessment procedure applied to test students&rsquo / writing ability in the mid-terms should be standardized and the writing tasks as tested in the English Proficiency Exam (EPE) should be focused on in writing classes.
On the other hand, as for the writing program at the DML, the need for the diversification of the writing genres, topics and the citation rules covered in the ENG 101 and ENG 102 courses depending on students&rsquo / departments was emphasized by the DML participants. Similarly, DBE participants underlined the need for departmentrelated content in writing materials. Also, the content course instructors agreed that the writing program applied at the DBE and the DML should be department-specific. In other words, this study displayed the necessity to conduct a needs analysis aiming to reveal DBE and DML students&rsquo / writing needs for their departments.
