Research and Implementationof LBS for Mobile Virtual NavigationSystem Based on AndroidLi, Junlin January 2014 (has links)
With the development of GPS and 3G network, mobile navigation systems are widely used in people’s daily life. From 2D electronic map to 3D simulation map, the navigation services based on real-scene information is becoming the mainstream. Due to the rapid growth of mobile navigation systems, users are not satisfied with the""basic navigation services any more, such as locating places and devising paths. They put forward higher demands on location-based services (LBS for short). Thus, LBS applications based on mobile navigation systems has attracted more and more attention. This thesis studies the drawbacks and relevant technologies of LBS, then designs and implements the LBS application for mobile virtual navigation systems based on Android platform. First of all, it analyzes the current status of LBS services, and come up with a self-adapting individuation LBS proposal based on user interests. Secondly, according to the requirements of LBS functional integrity and type diversity, it designs three function modules of the LBS application, including Mobile LBS Module, Location Sharing Module and Designated Reconstruction of Real Scene Module. What’s more, Mobile LBS Module is aimed to provide basic and extended location services to users, as well as user interest-based LBS information. Location Sharing Module puts forward a new check-in mode using physical medium, such as 2D barcodes and Bluetooth devices to share users’ current position. Designated Reconstruction of Real Scene Module is responsible for navigation route review and historical track queries, via the technology of SVG image compression and dynamic caching mechanism. Finally, the LBS application invokes Augmented Reality Module to show the location data, service results and navigation route in 3D form. The LBS application for mobile virtual navigation system based on Android platform in this thesis can provide navigation and location-based services of high quality directly and clearly, as well as bring users new experiences of mobile function. It has already achieved good results in experimental environment.

In 2005 The Environmental Committee of SINDUSCON-RS, knowing the construction companies needs of searching for the environmental requirements adequation, created a Project to make a national chek-list which could be used as an evaluation of the enterprises sustainability. At the beginning a reference revision of the main worldwide index and the existing works in this area was done. It was created a comparative table of the worldwide more used index, and after that, the major items and the pontuation form of each one were evaluated. Then the creation of the sustainability index developed by this group started. This work last about a year and a half with periodical meetings, the document that gave rise to the software and the software itself was completed. Then ran a pilot project with construction companies affiliated with the SINDUSCON-RS for the validation of this project. It was through this pilot that score, the weights given to each practice on the checklist, and best practices placed on the list have been tested and improved. Only after this pilot project that the first version of this index was considered complete. It’s expected that this project will be used to help the small and medium companies to bild with the less amount of natural resources and causing the minimum environmental impact.

NOISE IMPACT REDUCTION IN CLASSIFICATION APPROACH PREDICTING SOCIAL NETWORKS CHECK-IN LOCATIONSJedari Fathi, Elnaz 01 May 2017 (has links)
Since August 2010, Facebook has entered the self-reported positioning world by providing the check-in service to its users. This service allows users to share their physical location using the GPS receiver in their mobile devices such as a smart-phone, tablet, or smart-watch. Over the years, big datasets of recorded check-ins have been collected with increasing popularity of social networks. Analyzing the check-in datasets reveals valuable information and patterns in users’ check-in behavior as well as places check-in history. The analysis results can be used in several areas including business planning and financial decisions, for instance providing location-based deals. In this thesis, we leverage novel data mining methodology to learn from big check-in data and predict the next check-in place based on only places’ history and with no reference to individual users. To this end, we study a large Facebook check-in dataset. This dataset has a high level of noise in location coordinates due to multiple collection sources, which are users’ mobile devices. The research question is how we can leverage a noise impact reduction technique to enhance performance of prediction model. We design our own noise handling mechanism to deal with feature noise. The predictive model is generated by Random Forest classification algorithm in a shared-memory parallel environment. We represent how the performance of predictors is enhanced by minimizing noise impacts. The solution is a preprocessing feature noise cleansing approach implemented in R and works fast for big check-in datasets.

A Pilot Feasibility and Effectiveness Trial of the Family Check-Up Parenting Intervention with Spanish Preadolescents and Their Families: A Cultural Adaptation and Feasibility Study to Enhance Evidence-Based Intervention Research in SpainMargolis, Kathryn 03 October 2013 (has links)
There is strong research support for the effectiveness and feasibility of family-centered, evidence-based programs (EBPs) to prevent the developmental and negative effects of youth problem behaviors. Despite this support, there is a relatively low rate of disseminating existing EBPs to diverse nations and cultures, and there is even less research being conducted to evaluate the existing efforts towards dissemination and uptake. Youth problem behavior prevention is a burgeoning area of psychological study in Spain, yet Spanish psychologists do not currently utilize evidence-based prevention approaches. This study aimed to fill gaps in the research related to understanding best practices in disseminating and evaluating the dissemination of EBPs to international settings and to evaluating the uptake of a family-centered EBPs for use in Spain to prevent problem behavior in adolescence and adulthood.
The current study utilized a pretest/posttest with a follow-up, randomized control design to conduct a pilot feasibility and effectiveness trial of a family-centered EBP proven to effectively prevent problem behavior during adolescence. Seventeen pre-adolescents (ages 9-12) and their parents from the Seville metropolitan area in Spain were randomly assigned to receive the Family Check-Up intervention (FCU) or waitlist-control condition. This study used a multimodal, multi-agent approach to (1) examine intervention feasibility and uptake, (2) measure trends in youth adjustment and family management practices in the study sample, (3) examine differences in youth behavior and internalizing problems, and positive parenting, limit setting, and monitoring based on intervention group assignment, and (4) measure motivation to change based on random assignment to the intervention condition. Results from mixed effects repeated analysis of variance analyses indicated that the intervention group made significant improvements in conduct and internalizing problems and in parental limit setting, positive parenting, and family problem solving. These quantitative findings coupled with confirmatory qualitative themes suggest that the intervention was both effective in reducing youth adjustment problems and enhancing parenting skills and feasible when applied within the Spanish cultural context. Implications of culturally sensitive, community-based methods of intervention dissemination are discussed.

Predicting Variation in Responsiveness to the Family Check-Up in Early Childhood: A Mixture Model ApproachJanuary 2016 (has links)
abstract: The present study applied latent class analysis to a family-centered prevention
trial in early childhood to identify subgroups of families with differential responsiveness to the Family Check-up (FCU) intervention. The sample included 731 families of 2-year- olds randomized to the FCU or control and followed through age five with yearly follow up assessments (Dishion et al., 2014; Shaw et al., 2015). A two-step mixture model was used to examine whether specific constellations of family characteristics at age 2 (baseline) were related to intervention response at age 3, 4, and 5. The first step empirically identified latent classes of families based on a variety of demographic and adjustment variables selected on the basis of previous research on predictors of response to the FCU and parent training in general, as well as on the clinical observations of FCU implementers. The second step modeled the effect of the FCU on longitudinal change in children's problem behavior in each of the empirically derived latent classes. Results suggested a five-class solution, where a significant intervention effect of moderate-to- large size was observed in one of the five classes. The families within the responsive class were characterized by child neglect, legal problems, and mental health issues. Pairwise comparisons revealed that the intervention effect was significantly greater in this class of families than in two other classes that were generally less at risk for the development of disruptive behavior problems, and post hoc analyses partially supported these results. Thus, results indicated that the FCU was most successful in reducing child problem behavior in the highly distressed group of families. We conclude by discussing the potential practical utility of these results and emphasizing the need for future research to evaluate this approach's predictive accuracy. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Psychology 2016

The Application of Process Improvement Techniques at a Clothing Manufacturing Company in the Western Cape.Ayeah, Ebenezer Nkwain January 2003 (has links)
Magister Commercii - MCom / This research project focuses on the application of process improvement techniques in a clothing manufacturer to address delay problems in workflow in the factory. The objective of the research is threefold; investigate delays at the beginning of production and make suggestions, show the usefulness of continuous improvement techniques in improving activities in a clothing manufacturer and demonstrate how action research can be used in doing research in production and operation management. Using tools such as flow charts, check sheets, pareto analysis, fishbone diagrams, interviews and the "ask why five times" tool, an investigation into delays led to a second investigation into sewing defects. This established that these sewing defects are caused mainly by time constraints, the malfunctioning of machines, the wrong handling of garments, and previous operations. After an investigation using the above tools it was established that these defects could be addressed by setting realistic targets, doing regular maintenance on machines, cautioning operators to be more careful during their operations, and encouraging regular checks on garments before the next operation. The action learning methodology led to the following lessons; selecting a correct measuring tool is important, that not all tools need to be used, and that it takes time to do a research project using this
method.
