Addressing negative classroom behaviour in selected schools in Francistown, BotswanaJacobsz, Felicity-Anne 12 1900 (has links)
This study was undertaken in order to investigate negative classroom behaviour in schools
in Botswana. Recommendations based on the findings of the study were made to the
participating schools and interested stakeholders.
A qualitative approach was adopted to investigate the research questions in four schools
selected for the study. The data collection methods used were observation, document
analysis, participant interviews and focus group interviews. Participant and research site
confidentiality was ensured and all interviews were transcribed and organised in such a way
that the key points pertinent to the study were highlighted. This study provided valuable
information for future studies investigating disruptive classroom behaviour and intervention
methods. / Educational Foundations / M. Ed. (Socio-Education)

An Evaluation of Interactive Computer Training to Teach Discrete Trial and Naturalistic Instruction to Novice TherapistsNielsen, Olivia K. 12 1900 (has links)
Effective and efficient training strategies are needed to provide training to novel therapists whom provide early intensive behavioral intervention (EIBI) services to young children with autism. We evaluated the effects of interactive computer-based training (ICT) on novice therapists' implementation of two, common EIBI instructional techniques: discrete-trial instruction (DTI) and naturalistic instruction. Results demonstrated that ICT improved trainees' instructional fidelity during role-plays with a confederate for DTI instruction and also with a child with autism for both DTI and naturalistic instruction. As a result, the requirement for supervisor feedback on performance was minimized. In addition, results suggest that child language improved as a result of improved therapist performance.

Die moeder se persepsie, belewenis en hantering van die etiket `leergestremd' vir haar kindLiversage, Martha Dorethea Elizabeth 05 1900 (has links)
Labels are still used by professionals to describe differences and abnormalities in behaviour and academic skills. The label `learning disability' has advantages and disadvantages in terms of the different ways it is interpreted and experienced by society, teachers, parents and the child himself.
The mother, as an important person in the child's life, has perceptions and experiences of the concept that she communicates to others. The perception and meaning that the mother attaches to the label impacts on her thoughts, words and behaviour and on the child himself.
The aim of the study was to investigate the mother's perception, experience and handling of her child's label of learning disability. The research took the form of a qualitative analysis where data was collected using interviews.
From the empirical study it would seem that the mother's interpretation, experience and involvement in the labeling of learning disability has an influence on the learner's perception of his learning disability and whether he internalized the label and behaves accordingly. Mothers need to be given enough information so as to develop realistic perceptions about learning disability to equip their children with the necessary skills to overcome their learning problems and so fulfil their places in society. / Educational Studies / M.Ed.(Guidance & Counselling)

The case of character education to address challenging behaviour in a Gauteng primary schoolVorster, Maritza 01 1900 (has links)
This qualitative, phenomenological case study investigated the influence of character education, taught in addition to the Life Skills curriculum, on challenging behaviour in a primary school in Gauteng. Through a filtering process the researcher identified the Youth Citizens’ Action Programme (YCAP) as a suitable additional programme, one which currently includes democratic citizenship and service learning approaches. These are attuned to the study’s theoretical framework, which vests in social and experiential learning, modelling and observation. Although the YCAP at this particular Gauteng school is each year implemented by a team of Grade 7 learners, the implementation of the YCAP involved all the learners across grades. Hence, the empirical study focused on the contribution of the Grade 7 learners to addressing bullying, which learners themselves identified as the most prevalent form of challenging behaviour. The findings showed that the YCAP decreased bullying as challenging behaviour in this particular school. / Inclusive Education / M. Ed. (Inclusive Education)

Die emosionele belewing van graad 7 leerders in 'n bendegeteisterde gebiedJeffries, Victor Vincent 11 1900 (has links)
Summaries in Afrikaans and Engish / The aim of this research was to explore the emotional experience of grade 7 learners in a
gang afflicted area. The researcher further investigated how the learners experience this
gang violence and how they give meaning to it The researcher also examined the
possible ways in which the educational psychologist could assist these learners in
actualising their full potential.
A literature study of relevant sources has been undertaken to establish the theoretical
context of the gang related problem. Two groups of 8 grade 7 learners were used as
respondents in the empirical study. The qualitative research method has been used and
the researcher made use of focus groups and interviews as measuring instruments.
The results of the empirical study have shown that learners experience gang violence
negatively when they are exposed to it on a regular basis and that it impacts negatively on
their performance at school.
skoolwerk impakteer. / Psychology of Education / M.Ed. (Specialisation in Guidance and Counselling)
